Abstract

Cultural Heritage is one of the legacies left by ancestors in the form of objects or buildings that hold significant value for history, culture, and science. The Cultural Heritage Law No. 11 of 2010 provides protection for cultural heritage sites. However, there are still instances of large-scale and intentional exploitation or destruction of some cultural heritage sites. Therefore, strategic steps are needed for their preservation, including involving various community layers in preserving cultural heritage. Several approaches in preserving cultural heritage include raising awareness among students at Guppi Islamic Boarding School, who represent the millennial community or young generation. This approach also offers an opportunity for various community layers to become crucial agents in cultural heritage preservation. The methods used for raising awareness at Guppi Islamic Boarding School are: 1) Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD); this approach emphasizes utilizing the assets of the assisted community (students of Guppi Islamic Boarding School). Generally, this community has a close affinity with science and technology and tends to have high curiosity, which can be managed effectively. 2) Community-Based Research (CBR); this research model involves the target community as active participants. The awareness-building model at Guppi Islamic Boarding School includes two stages: theoretical stage through briefing and socialization of Law No. 11 of 2010 and practical stage, such as heritage tourism. The awareness-building activities benefit the institution and the assisted community, particularly in increasing knowledge and building awareness among Guppi Islamic Boarding School students.

Abstract

Modernism is a movement that originated in the western world to replace Catholic religious teachings with modern science and philosophy. The culmination of this movement is the process of secularization in the western world, before the revolution in Iran. The success of the Iranian Islamic Revolution which succeeded in overthrowing the Pahlavi dynasty which had changed the political system and form of the Iranian state from an absolute monarchy to an Islamic republic. A first popular revolution in the last quarter of the twentieth century against a modern authoritarian political system. However, this Iranian experience does not provide a definite answer to the problems between Islam and the originator of the Iranian revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini, who played a major role in moving the masses to carry out a revolution against the Pahlavi regime.

Abstract

This article discusses the history of the birth of the secular Islamic State of Turkey and the ideas of reform carried out by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in various fields and its transformation into a modern, secular state. The method used in this research is a literature review using a qualitative approach. The analysis used to analyze the data is content analysis. The research results show that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was one of the qualified Islamic reformers of the 19th century. He has made a major contribution to changing the mindset of Turkish society. By changing the old order that had become a tradition in the Ottoman Empire, and forming it into a new face with a style of thinking that actually did not change "Islam" but only changed the mindset and order of life of Muslims to adapt to the demands of the times. Islamic values were formed, a caliphate, a republic and even a secular one. Even though symbols are also important, what is more important is that the people are able to convey the substance of Islam in every movement of their people's lives. His ideas have brought Turkey to become a developed country that is on par with the international world as well as proving that Islamic government is a government that is in line with the demands of the times.

Abstract

Women in Islamic studies have reached a very important position. Many gender activists have discussed this topic, especially regarding gender equality. Several prominent feminist figures in the struggle for women's rights and gender equality include Qasim Amin, Amina Wadud Muhsin, and Fatimah Mernissi. Each of them has their own views about women. This article was prepared with the aim of presenting several opinions from these feminist figures and then extracting them. The writing of this article applies library research methods by collecting library materials sourced from books, journals and online articles. Based on this study, the view is obtained that Islamic feminist thought is very influential in reconstructing the interpretation of the position of women in Islamic law. This is a form of confirmation that interpretation is a subjective matter that is greatly influenced by the interpreter. Muslim feminist thought is actually relevant to the current context where men and women have equal positions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reconstruct Somba Opu as a model of the Muslim maritime city of the archipelago in medieval times. The results of this study will be useful for the government of South Sulawesi Province, especially in determining policies related to urban planning and urban governance (good urban governance). The types of research used are library research and field research. Library research focuses on reviewing, studying, and discussing literature or library sources and other sources. Filed research captures actual data and information at the research location. The research steps are Heuristics, Criticism, Interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study show that Somba Opu grew to become one of the maritime Muslim Cities in the archipelago in the 17th century. The characteristics include; Somba Opu is the center of the Makassar Kingdom government as well as an international commercial city visited by foreign traders from Asia (China, Malay, India, and Arabia) and from Europe such as Portugal, so the population grew significantly and pluralist, coastal markets grew into economic centers and private and foreign companies providing employment, the existence of the Mosque as a symbol of Islamic government with a majority Muslim population. The king with the title of Sultan was Sultan Alauddin and the kings after him. This Islamic government respects the plurality of society which is marked by the existence of non-Muslim houses of worship such as churches that are permitted by the ruler. The results of this study will complement and enrich previous studies as well as become a reference for urban managers and urban planning experts.

Abstract

Lagosi, a renowned woven fabric of national significance, involves a precise calculation formula in its manufacturing process. Craftsmen must meticulously count the threads to ensure the motif aligns with the intended design. Despite its importance, this aspect has not been thoroughly examined within the framework of Ethnomathematics. Consequently, this study investigates the mathematical practices employed by the Buginese people during the Lagosi weaving process, focusing on both the manufacturing procedures and the resultant motifs. Employing a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach, this research collected data through observation, interviews, and audio-visual documentation. The analysis utilized domain and taxonomic techniques to interpret the data. To ensure validity, both source and method triangulation were employed. The findings reveal that the crafting of Lagosi involves integrating counting, measuring, designing, and positioning techniques. Additionally, the study demonstrates that weaving artisans apply mathematical critical thinking skills in the production of Lagosi. The weaving process also reflects socio-cultural values such as diligence, perseverance, discipline, and faith. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of mathematics in cultural contexts and offer valuable perspectives for contextual mathematics education by incorporating social values.
