Abstract

Protein in albumen can be chelated and create strong bond with lead. The research was done toevaluate the speed of chelating process by local chicken egg, layers chicken egg, mojokerto duck egg, andpeking duck egg. The experiment was conducted by mixing lead acetat with albumen on 1:1 ratio. White eggconcentrations were divided into 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Control group used 0% of albumen concentration(aquadestilate). Peking duck white egg had the fastest speed of protein chelation. Peking duck albumen by100% concentration had the fastest speed of chelation among the other egg used in experiment (p<0,05). Inconclusion, albumen can be used to overcome lead toxicity, with various speed of chelating process amongalbumen of various alvian.

Abstract

Mortality and health disturbances in children often correlate with maternal health and fertility. Avocado, mung bean sprouts, and holy basil have been traditionally used to improve maternal health, before and during pregnancy. This study was aimed to assess the efficacy of herbal combination of avocado, mung bean sprouts, and holy basil (Jamu ATOKE) in optimizing reproductive health. Eighteen female Sprague Dawley rats (9–10 weeks old, BW: 180–250 g) were randomly divided into 3 treatment groups (n=6 rats for each group) of control, group I and II. ATOKE were added into rats drinking water and consumed for 30 days before pregnancy. After the rats were pregnant and gave birth, pup per parent ratio, pup mortality, and pup health performance (body weight gain, feed and drink consumption, motor activity, pup speed in finding light and feed, red blood cell (RBC) count, white blood cell (WBC) count and differential, SGPT, SGOT, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, and proinflammatory mediators (TNF-α and IL-6) were analyzed. Pups born to in group I had a generally better health performance compared to the control group. There was a 100% mortality in the litter of group II due to the excessive aggressive behavior of the dams as a sign of toxicity. Administration of 2.5% Jamu ATOKE showed the best effects on the health and intelligence of the rat pup.

Abstract

Abstract This study was conducted to improve the quality of oocytes in old-female rats by using pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin (PMSG). Female rats at productive age were used as a control.  The experimental rats were injected with 4 doses of PMSG i.e., 0, 2.5, 5.0, and 10 IU PMSG. After 2 weeks of acclimation to the experimantal condition, the experimental rats were injected with PGF2α at a dose of 25µg/g BW two times with 2 days interval to synchronize estrous cycle. PMSG injections were conducted at the same time with the second PGF2α injection.  After PMSG injection, the experimental rats were divided into two groups rats, i.e., rats without mating for masurement of oocyte qualities and rats mated for measurement of offspring qualities.  Therefore, 16 experimental rats from each age group were sacrifized for maeasurement of oocyte qualities.  The other 16 experimental rats for each age group were mated for measurement of offspring qualities. Parameters measured were hematological profile, uterine and ovarian weights, the qualities of oocytes, the qualities of the offsspring born by using swimming test and rat maze test. The collected data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with Duncan test with a 95% confidence level. The data were analyzed using SSPS. The results showed that the improvement in the quality of oocytes in old female rats using the PMSG hormone in this study showed an increase in the quality of oocytes in old and productive age rats. The highest number of oocyte quality was found in rats of productive age (3.25) and significantly different (P< 0.05) from the other oocyte qualities. The quality of offspring born to old age and productive age rats injected with PMSG were improved.  It was concluded that the improvement of oocyte quality by using PMSG also improves offspring qualities.

Abstract

Informasi dan pengetahuan masyarakat yang masih minim mengenai antibiotik burung hias dapat menimbulkan penyalahgunaan dan resistensi antibiotik. Staphylococcus koagulase positif merupakan salah satu bakteri Gram positif yang bersifat patogen dan dapat menginfeksi burung lovebird. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui resistensi Staphylococcus koagulase positif yang diisolasi dari swab kloaka burung lovebird terhadap beberapa antibiotik yang berbeda. Isolat bakteri yang digunakan sebanyak empat buah dan diuji terhadap antibiotik gentamisin, eritromisin, siprofloksasin, tetrasiklin, dan doksisiklin menggunakan metode difusi cakram menurut Kirby-Bauer. Interpretasi hasil dan penentuan sifat kepekaan mengacu pada Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI 2018). Hasil uji resistensi yang didapatkan bervariasi. Sifat resistensi hanya didapatkan terhadap gentamisin pada isolat 4. Intermediet didapatkan terhadap gentamisin pada isolat 1, serta terhadap eritromisin dan siprofloksasin pada isolat 4. Isolat 2 dan 3 menunjukkan kepekaan sensitif terhadap gentamisin, eritromisin, siprofloksasin, tetrasiklin, dan doksisiklin.

Abstract

Burung hantu merupakan burung pemangsa nokturnal yang saat ini banyak dijadikan hewan peliharaan di Indonesia. Namun informasi terkait penyakit dan pengobatan burung hantu masih sangat terbatas. Pengawasan penggunaan antibiotik di Indonesia juga masih lemah sehingga dapat terjadi resistensi antibiotik. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui kepekaan bakteri Staphylococcus Koagulase Negatif (CoNS) dari swab kloaka satu ekor Javan owlet (Glaucidium castanopterum) dan dua ekor buffy fish owl (Ketupa ketupu) yang berasal dari penangkaran burung hantu di Depok terhadap lima jenis antibiotik menggunakan metode Kirby-Bauer. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bakteri CoNS dari swab kloaka satu ekor javan Owlet dan satu ekor buffy fish owl resisten terhadap eritromisin, namun kedua isolat ini masih sensitif terhadap gentamisin, siprofloksasin, doksisiklin dan tetrasiklin. Untuk isolat ketiga yang berasal dari satu ekor buffy fish owl masih sensitif terhadap kelima antibiotik yang diujikan

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui khasiat dari gel kombinasi ekstrak rimpang kunyit dan gel gamat sebagai obat untuk mempercepat proses penyembuhan luka sayatan yang mudah diaplikasikan, praktis, dan efektif pada tikus putih galur Sprague-Dawley berdasarkan pengamatan patologi anatomi. Sebanyak 30 tikus yang digunakan dibagi ke dalam rancangan acak lengkap dengan 5 kelompok perlakuan. Kulit tikus dilukai pada sebagian sisi perut kiri atau kanan sepanjang 3 cm. Setiap luka kemudian diobati dengan perlakuan yang berbeda. Perlakuan yang diberikan adalah kontrol negatif (gel plasebo), gel kombinasi ekstrak rimpang kunyit dan gel gamat dengan berbagai konsentrasi (0,5%, 1%, 2%), dan kontrol positif (salep komersil yang mengandung Centella asiatica 15%). Pengamatan patologi anatomi dilakukan setiap hari selama 21 hari. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan membandingkan perubahan yang terjadi secara deskriptif selama proses penyembuhan luka. Parameter yang diamati adalah ukuran luka, kedalaman luka, tepi luka, jenis eksudat, warna kulit, dan keberadaan rambut. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa kelompok yang diberikan gel kombinasi dan kontrol positif memberi pengaruh lebih baik terhadap percepatan penyembuhan luka dibandingkan dengan kontrol negatif yang hanya diberikan gel placebo. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa proses penyembuhan luka dipercepat dengan pemberian gel kombinasi ekstrak rimpang kunyit dan gel gamat. Kelompok konsentrasi 2% memberikan hasil penyembuhan yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan kelompok konsentrasi 0,5% dan 1%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi khasiat fitofarmaka lokal Indonesia yaitu kemangi sebagai antifertilitas dalam meningkatkan kesehatan dan keamanan tikus betina. Sebanyak 15 ekor tikus betina galur Sprague-Dawley (umur 8 minggu, bobot badan 220-230 g) dibagi acak ke dalam 3 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan, yaitu: kontrol (K0); kemangi 1% (K1); dan kemangi 5% (K5) dalam bentuk maserasi yang ditambahkan ke dalam air minum. Pemberian jamu dilakukan selama 20 hari dimulai pada fase diestrus. Parameter profil darah yang diamati adalah gambaran darah merah (jumlah butir darah merah, hematokrit, dan hemoglobin) dan diferensial darah putih (limfosit, monosit, neutrofil, eosinofil, basofil). Parameter keamanan diamati dengan melihat fungsi organ hati (SGPT, SGOT) dan ginjal (ureum, kreatinin). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa profil darah dan pengamatan fungsi hati dan ginjal pada kelompok tikus betina yang diberi kemangi tidak terdapat perbedaan nyata (P>0.05) dengan kelompok kontrol. Pemberian kemangi tidak memengaruhi kondisi fisiologis tikus betina dan tidak toksik sehingga dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kesehatan tikus betina.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of a herbal combination of avocado, mung bean sprouts, and holy basil (Jamu ATOKE) in optimizing the reproductive health of adult female rats. Eighteen female Sprague Dawley rats aged 9-10 weeks old weighing around 180-250 g, and had not been pregnant previously were equally and randomly divided into 3 groups: one control group and two treatment groups (n= 6 rats per group). The treatment groups received Jamu ATOKE with a concentration of 2.5 and 5%, respectively. Jamu ATOKE was added to the drinking water and consumed by the rats for 30 days prior to pregnancy. Reproductivity (pregnancy success, estrogen and progesterone hormone concentrations), and health performance (body weight gain, food, and water consumption, motor activity, red blood cell (RBC) count, white blood cell (WBC) count and differentials, SGPT, SGOT, ureum, and creatinine) of rats were observed. The results showed that groups receiving the Jamu ATOKE had better reproductive and health performance compared to those of the control group. The administration of Jamu ATOKE can significantly increase the concentration of estrogen and progesterone in rats (P0.05). It can also improve the fertility and health of the female rats prior to pregnancy.

Abstract

The use antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) can cause antibiotic residues and microorganism resistance, so it is prohibitied by the government. Jamu is an Indonesian herbal ingredient that can be used as an alternative in overcoming this problem. The aim of the study was to determine the effective concentration of a combination of ginger, curcuma, wild ginger, and honey herbs in improving the performance and profile of broiler chickens without changing the organoleptic properties of the meat. The study used 36 Cobb strain day old chicks (DOC) which were reared up to 32 days of age. The study used a completely randomized design with the addition of combination herbal medicine in drinking water as much as 0% (control), 1.25% (P1), 2.5% (P2), and 5% (P3). The variabels observed included performance (feed and drink consumption, body weight gain, final weight, feed conservation ratio (FCR), performance index (IP), mortality), organ profiles (weight of liver, hearts, lungs and spleen), and weight and length of the duodenum, jejeum, ileum of broiler chickens followed by organoleptic test on broiler chicken meat. The result showed that P1, P2, and P3 significanly (p<0.05) could increase the final weight and body weight gain. Carcass weight, abdominal fat weight, FCR, IP, mortality, and organ profile showed no significant difference (p>0.05) between treatment and control. Research shows that the combination of ginger, temulawak, lempuyang, and honey with concentration of 5% can improve performance without changing the organ profile of broiler chickens and organoleptic broiler chicken meat.

Abstract

Sediaan herbal sebagai aditif pakan telah memberikan keuntungan dalam peternakan dengan merangsang pertumbuhan, meningkatkan efisiensi pakan dan efek imunomodulator, sehingga menghasilkan angka kematian, morbiditas dan keseluruhan performa yang lebih baik pada unggas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu menguji pengaruh pemberian jamu berbahan baku sambiloto, temulawak, madu, dan jahe terhadap performa ayam broiler. Rancangan percobaan yang dilakukan adalah rancangan acak lengkap yang terdiri atas empat perlakuan dan tujuh ulangan. Perlakuan pertama merupakan kontrol, ayam broiler yang tidak diberi jamu. Tiga perlakuan selanjutnya, ayam yang diberi tambahan jamu konsentrasi bertingkat 5%, 10%, dan 15%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian jamu meningkatkan performa ayam broiler secara nyata (P<0,05) dan peningkatan terbaik berada pada kelompok konsentrasi 5% dan 10%. Meliputi peningkatan konsumsi pakan dan air minum, pertambahan bobot badan, bobot hidup, bobot karkas dan konversi pakan tanpa disertai peningkatan bobot jantung, paru-paru, hati, ginjal, dan limpa. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian jamu kombinasi sambiloto, temulawak, madu, dan jahe dapat meningkatkan performa ayam broiler.
