Abstract

Seawater intrusion significantly impacts groundwater quality in coastal areas, presenting a critical challenge for sustainable water resource management. This study aimed to map groundwater salinity in the southern coastal region of Jember Regency by employing simple physicochemical parameters, including Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and seawater fraction (fsea), which was determined using chloride (Cl-) concentrations. Fieldwork was conducted at 211 well sites across ten villages, and the sea-freshwater interface was analyzed using the Ghyben-Herzberg principle. Geostatistical analysis using Ordinary Kriging was applied to spatially map the salinity parameters. Results indicated that 83% of groundwater samples were classified as fresh, 16% as slightly saline, and 1% as moderately saline. Areas near Payangan and Watu Ulo Beaches exhibited higher seawater fractions, with fsea values up to 23%, indicating significant seawater mixing. These findings underscore the need for targeted groundwater management strategies to mitigate seawater intrusion in this region

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of Mangats (Modul Semangat Nasionalisme) on improving student learning outcomes in the subject of Social Studies at SMP Negeri 11 Malang. The background of this research is social studies learning that is considered less interesting by students because it is theoretical and less relevant to everyday life, so that the learning provided by teachers tends to be limited to textbooks. The lack of innovation in the learning process makes students less interested in learning the material. This results in many students experiencing a decrease in interest in learning and low learning outcomes, especially in material about the lives of Indonesian people during colonialism and imperialism. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design through pretest and posttest measurements on two groups, namely the experimental group that used the Mangats application and the control group that did not use it. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and tests. The data were analyzed using Paired Sample T-test to see the difference in pretest and posttest results in both groups. The results of the analysis showed that the use of the Mangats application significantly improved student learning outcomes, with the average value of the posttest being much higher than the pretest. This shows that the Mangats application is effective in increasing students' interest and understanding in Social Studies subjects at SMP Negeri 11 Malang

Abstract

Flood is one of the most frequent hydrometeorological disasters which leads in economic losses. The first step in flood disaster mitigation efforts is mapping vulnerable areas. Kencong District frequently affected by the annual flooding event. This study aims to assess flood hazard mapping by integrating the AHP method and Geographic Information System. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach through the correlation matrix of the AHP model for each physical environmental factor. These factors include slope, altitude, distance from the river, soil type, Topographic Wetness Index (TWI), and Curvature. Furthermore, with the Geographic Information System (GIS), the weighted overlay stage was carried out to obtain the results of flood-prone areas. Based on the AHP analysis, the most significant factors in determining flood-prone areas were the distance from rivers, slopes, and TWI. The results of flood-prone areas mapping were divided into five classes: from deficient 0.02%, low 4.26%, medium 37.11%, high 51.89%, and very high 6.72%. Validation of GIS mapping results with data in the field has an AUC value of 84%, which indicates that the prediction of the AHP-GIS model is perfect in flood-prone areas mapping in the Kencong District. The integration of AHP method and Geographic Information System in flood hazard assessment were able to produce a model to evaluate the spatial distribution of flood-prone areas. Abstract

Strengthening High School Students' Ecoliteracy Skills Through Geography Learning Based on Practical Activities and Field Observations on Pedosphere Topics Abstract The aim of this community service activity is to enhance high school students' competencies in field observation and practical activities related to recognizing pedosphere characteristics, with the ultimate goal of strengthening their ecoliteracy skills. Compared to conventional theory-based learning methods, this approach allows students to connect academic concepts with real-world phenomena, thereby improving learning effectiveness. Geography practicum and field observations hold great potential in enriching students' understanding of the relationship between geographical theories and real-world phenomena. However, the implementation of this method in Indonesian high schools remains limited due to financial constraints, teacher readiness, and insufficient practical facilities. This community service program focuses on empowering students to understand and apply pedosphere knowledge through direct field practice. The methodology employed includes classroom learning to provide theoretical foundations and technical knowledge, followed by field observations at nearby locations to apply the acquired skills. The results of pre-test and post-test assessments indicate a significant improvement in students' understanding, with an average score increase from 58.4 to 85.2, and 80% of students achieving scores above 80 after the activity. A paired t-test analysis shows a statistically significant difference (? < 0.05), confirming the effectiveness of this method in enhancing students' ecoliteracy. Furthermore, this activity contributes to the development of field-based learning methods for teachers, with the expectation of broader implementation within the geography curriculum in the future. Additionally, the primary challenges in implementation, such as limited practical equipment and teacher readiness, can be addressed by utilizing school laboratories and providing training for teachers. Thus, this activity successfully achieves its main objective of strengthening students' ecoliteracy skills and facilitating a deeper understanding of human-environment interactions.

Abstract

This study examines seawater intrusion in the southern part of Kebumen District, focusing on the impact of various geological formations on groundwater salinity. Groundwater samples were systematically collected from 11 locations representing alluvial, volcanic, coastal sediment, and karst geological conditions. The samples were analyzed for major ions, including calcium (Ca²⁺), magnesium (Mg²⁺), chloride (Cl-), and bicarbonate (HCO₃-), as well as Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Ion ratios such as Mg²⁺/Ca²⁺, Cl⁻/HCO₃⁻, and Mg²⁺/(Mg²⁺+Ca²⁺), along with the Fraction of Seawater (fsea), were calculated to assess the extent of seawater intrusion. The study employed the Gibbs diagram method to identify the primary processes controlling groundwater chemistry, revealing that water-rock interactions are dominant in most samples, particularly in those affected by seawater intrusion. The results indicate significant seawater intrusion in alluvial and karst regions, especially at sampling points TP 2, TP 4, and TP 10, while volcanic and coastal sediment areas show minimal intrusion. These findings underscore the critical influence of geological conditions on seawater intrusion and highlight the need for targeted groundwater management strategies. Further research focusing on long-term monitoring is recommended to better understand and mitigate the impacts of seawater intrusion in this region.

Abstract

The Nadran tradition in the coastal community of Cirebon, West Java, is a form of local wisdom that has existed for a long time and is an integral part of their social and cultural life. This study discusses the socio-cultural dynamics of the coastal community of North West Java amidst modernization, with a focus on the Nadran tradition in the coastal community of Cirebon. This study uses a literature study method with a qualitative approach to explore how the Nadran tradition is maintained, changed, and integrated into the increasingly modern life of society. The findings of this study indicate that the Nadran tradition not only functions as a ritual of gratitude for fishermen for marine products, but also as a means of strengthening social ties and cultural identity amidst rapid social change. On the other hand, modernization brings challenges and opportunities for the sustainability of this tradition. The results of this study are expected to provide insight into efforts to preserve local culture in the context of sustainable modernization.
