Abstract

Abstract. The Rejoso District in Nganjuk Regency experienced a significant increase in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases, rising from 10 cases in 2023 to 57 cases in 2024. This increase in DHF cases is thought to be related to environmental factors such as rainfall, air humidity, temperature, vegetation density index, and wetness index. Spatial mapping based on satellite imagery data and Geographic Information Systems has been widely used in epidemiological studies, but its application is still limited in the local context, with a quantitative approach based on regional physiography and spectral index. This study aims to map the potential risk of DHF using a weighted overlay approach based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA). This study is a descriptive, quantitative research, with data collected through literature reviews, observations, documentation, and satellite image analysis. PCA results show that the most influential variables are rainfall (0.530), air humidity (0.509) and vegetation density (0.421), while temperature (-0.509) and wetness index (0.148) provide a lower contribution. The mapping revealed three categories of dengue fever potential: high (in 6 villages), medium (in 4 villages), and low (in 13 villages). These findings demonstrate that weighted overlay can be used as a spatial prediction tool to support risk mitigation and early warning of dengue fever, taking into account local climate dynamics and the region's environmental characteristics.

Abstract

The development of sustainable tourism in rural highland areas requires a spatially integrated and community-based management approach. This study aims to formulate strategic directions for tourism development in Songgon District, Banyuwangi Regency by integrating spatial analysis and SWOT evaluation. Spatial analysis was conducted using the Nearest Neighbor Analysis (NNA) method to assess the distribution pattern of ten natural tourism destinations across four villages. The results of the NNA analysis show a value of 1.18 (NNA>1), indicating that the distribution pattern of tourist sites is somewhat dispersed (not clustered) and not extremely scattered. These findings suggest the presence of spatial decentralization of tourism assets, which requires connectivity and thematic integration between locations. SWOT analysis, supported by field interviews, identified internal and external factors classified into four strategic typologies: Strength-Opportunity (S-O), Strength-Threat (S-T), Weakness-Opportunity (W-O), and Weakness-Threat (W-T). The S-O strategy emphasized strengthening existing attractions and community-based ecotourism; S-T focused on enhancing local identity to withstand environmental and market pressures; W-O highlighted infrastructure improvement and digital transformation; while W-T addressed fundamental service gaps and external threats simultaneously. The integration of NNA and SWOT provided a comprehensive foundation for contextual, adaptive, and data-driven tourism planning in Songgon District. This approach offers transferable insights for tourism development in other rural regions with similar socio-ecological complexities.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to define the characteristics of the karst aquifer, which is approximated by the parameters of (1) degree of karstification (Dk) and (2) time series analysis (cross-correlation and auto-correlation). This research focuses on the Ngerong Spring, the largest spring in Rengel Karst, East Java, Indonesia. Pendant rain gauge RG-3M and HOBO U20L-02 water-level data loggers were installed over one year with a recording interval of 15 minutes. Furthermore, after one year of time-series discharge data was obtained, the discharge recession coefficient was applied to make the recession formula. It was then used to estimate the karstification degree scale from 1 to 10. The aquifer memory system and the spring response to rainfall events were analyzed by auto-correlation and cross-correlation. The results of this study indicate that the karstification degree (Dk) of the Ngerong Spring system is 4.8-5.0, with one laminar and one turbulent flow subregime type. The aquifer system comprises a subregime with turbulent and laminar flow, where the substantial role in groundwater discharge plays the subregime with laminar flow. Meanwhile, time series analysis shows that the capacity of aquifer storage in the Ngerong Spring is large enough. It has a memory effect for 26.41 days, followed by a rapid response to rainfall events within 8 hours. Compared with several other karst sites in Java, the Ngerong Spring aquifer has the youngest development level with the best storage and the slowest release.
