Abstract

Purpose: to test whether the combination of Moringa oleifera L. and guava (Psidium guajava) leaf extract has a better effect in reducing blood glucose levels compared to single extracts. Method: an experiment with a pre- and post-test with control group design. The samples were Moringa leaves, guava leaves with 30 Wistar rats divided into 6 groups. Normal control group, negative control group (Na CMC 1%), positive control group (glibenclamide 5 mg/kgBW), Moringa leaf extract group dose 100 mg/kgBW, guava leaf extract group dose 105 mg/kgBW, and a combination group of Moringa leaf extract with guava leaves. Data analysis used a computerized program using the Welch ANOVA and Post Hoc Games-Howell tests. Results: showed that all treatment groups significantly reduced blood glucose levels compared to negative controls (p<0.05), but the effect was not comparable to positive controls and was not significant with normal controls on day 21. The combination of EEDK and EEDJB did not provide a better effect than the single extract. Conclusion: This study shows that the single extract and the combination of moringa leaf and guava leaf extracts have antidiabetic activity, but the combination of moringa leaf and guava leaf extracts did not show a better effect.

Abstract

Penelitian ekstrak etanol 50% daun matoa atau EEDM (Pometiapinnata J.R.Forst & G.Forst) dengan kandungan berupa flavonoidyang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan mampu menetralkan radikalbebas dengan meregenerasi sel ? pankreas dalam memproduksihormon insulin. Penurunan kadar gula darah disebabkan karenakelebihan gula disimpan dalam bentuk glikogen dengan bantuanhormon insulin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menetapkan pengaruhekstrak etanol 50% daun matoa atau EEDM (Pometia pinnataJ.R.Forst & G.Forst) terhadap kadar glikogen hati pada tikuspercobaan yang diinduksi aloksan 150 mg/kgBB. Penelitianeksperimental dilakukan dengan RAL (Rancangan Acak Lengkap)terhadap 6 kelompok perlakuan yang diberi perlakuan denganakuades tanpa induksi, akuades, glibenklamid 5 mg/kgBB, dan tigakelompok EEDM dengan dosis 50, 100, dan 200 mg/kgBB EEDMselama 14 hari. Kadar glikogen ditetapkan dengan metode antronmenggunakan hati tikus yang telah dikeringkan. Hasil dari penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa EEDM dosis 50 dan 100 mg/kgBB mampumeningkatkan kadar glikogen hati yang tidak berbeda signifikan(sama) dengan kelompok tikus kontrol positif yang diberikanglibenklamid dosis 5 mg/kgBB.

Abstract

Tim pengabdian Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta telah melakukan serangkaian kegiatan pengabdian melalui Program Pengabdian Masyarakat Penerapan Teknologi Tepat Guna (P2TTG) bekerja sama dengan CV Berkah Alam sebagai mitra pengabdian. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk alih teknologi dalam pengolahan bahan baku cacing dan standardisasi kandungannya untuk peningkatan kualitas produk. Program pengabdian ini dilaksanakan mulai Desember 2021 selama enam bulan. Tim melaksanakan serangkaian penelitian terkait pengolahan cacing tanah dan standardisasi kandungan proteinnya kemudian mengembangkan dan menerapkannya untuk meningkatkan efisiensi produksi dan kualitas produk. Penelitian dan pengembangan yang dilakukan meliputi optimasi ekstraksi protein dari sampel kapsul cacing, terkait dengan waktu dan suhu optimum untuk mendapatkan kandungan protein paling tinggi. Selanjutnya validasi metode analisis protein dalam sampel kapsul cacing untuk memastikan bahwa metode analisis yang digunakan valid, akurat dan teliti untuk mengukur kandungan protein dalam sampel. Selanjutnya pelatihan pengolahan bahan baku cacing yang efisien untuk mendapatkan kandungan protein yang maksimal serta standardisasi proses produksinya.

Abstract

The University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta community service team has carried out a series of service activities through the Community Service Program for the Application of Appropriate Technology (P2TTG) in collaboration with CV Berkah Alam as a service partner. This service aims to transfer technology in the processing of worm raw materials and standardization of their content to improve product quality. This service program will be carried out starting December 2021 for six months. The team carried out a series of studies related to earthworm processing and standardization of protein content then developed and applied it to improve production efficiency and product quality. Research and development carried out includes optimization of protein extraction from worm capsule samples, related to the optimum time and temperature to obtain the highest protein content. Furthermore, validate the protein analysis method in the worm capsule sample to ensure that the analysis method used is valid, accurate and presice to measure the protein content in the sample. Furthermore, training on efficient processing of worm raw materials to obtain maximum protein content and standardization of the production process.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia is caused by excessive production and/or poor elimination of uric acid. Kencur (Kaempferia galanga L.) and black ginger (Kaemperia parviflora) can be utilised as antihyperurisemic alternatives because their flavonoids block xanthin oxidase (XO). The study determine the efficacy of black ginger ethanol extract (EEJH) as an in vivo antihyperuricemic agent. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of kencur ethanol extract (EK) dan black ginger ethanol extract (EEJH) as an antihyperuricemia in vivo. A complete random design used involving 32 mice in 8 groups. Negative control (CMC Na 0.5%); positive control (Allopurinol 10 mg/kgBW); EK and EEJH respectively 12.5; 25; and 50 mg/kgBW. Hyperurisemia was induced by chicken liver juice 4 mL/200 gBB p.o. and potassium oxonate 250 mg/kgBB i.p. UA monitoring was carried out before induction, 0, 7, and 14 days after treatment. Tukey post hoc tests and ANOVA were used to evaluate the data. The results indicate that both of EK and EEJH can reduced UA (p<0.05) however the reduction is significant with Allopurinol (P<0.05). Thus, it can be inferred that the EK and EEJH have potential for enhanced antihyperurysemic in decreasing the UA.

Abstract

Pepaya (Carica papaya L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman tradisional di Indonesia yang telah banyak diteliti sebagai agen antidiabetes. Tujuan penulisan narrative review ini adalah untuk menganalisis efek antidiabetes yang dimiliki oleh tanaman pepaya (Carica papaya L.) beserta kandungan senyawa yang mempengaruhinya. Penulisan narrative review ini disusun berdasarkan artikel yang ditelusuri melalui database google scholar menggunakan kata kunci "(Carica papaya or Pepaya) and (antidiabetic or hypoglycemic) and (rat or mice)”. Kriteria inklusi yang digunakan meliputi literature primer dengan desain preclinical trial yang membahas mengenai aktivitas tanaman pepaya (Carica papaya L.) yang dapat menurunkan kadar glukosa pada hewan uji yang diinduksi aloksan atau streptozotosin, dan telah dipublikasikan dari rentang tahun 2015-2020. Berdasarkan penelusuran yang telah dilakukan, kemudian ditetapkan sebanyak 15 artikel yang telah memenuhi kriteria untuk ditinjau. Dari 15 artikel tersebut ditemukan bahwa pepaya mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah memalui penghambatan enzim α-glukosidase, merangsang sekresi insulin dan peningkatan sensitivitas insulin. Senyawa metabolik yang bertanggung jawab dalam mekanisme tersebut diduga termasuk dalam golongan fenolik, alkaloid, terpenoid dan saponin.

Abstract

Degenerative diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hypercholesterolemia are major global health concerns with high prevalence in Indonesia, including in Kampung Biru, Banjarmasin. This community service initiative aimed to enhance public knowledge about the prevention and management of degenerative diseases, while also providing medication information through the Drug Information Service (DIS). The program involved 58 participants who underwent health screenings (blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid levels), disease-specific group education, and DIS sessions conducted by pharmacists. Results showed a 60.34% improvement in participants' knowledge, with a 98.27% satisfaction rate. Data analysis revealed a higher prevalence of these diseases among the elderly (aged 45 years and above), aligning with national epidemiological trends. The program demonstrated the effectiveness of a collaborative approach involving academics, healthcare professionals, and the community in promoting health literacy and preventive care.

Abstract

A prevalent issue among the elderly is cognitive deterioration. Modifications in behavior and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle have been demonstrated to mitigate cognitive decline in the elderly. The objective of community service initiatives is to disseminate knowledge regarding cognitive health in the elderly and to offer brain workouts to the community, particularly targeting women who are PKK activists in Mliwis Village. This community service initiative employs an instructional methodology that incorporates PowerPoint presentations and leaflets, utilizing a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The event took place at the Posyandu Sidorejo in Mliwis Village, Boyolali. The target audience for this activity was PKK mothers in Mliwis Village, Boyolali Regency, Central Java. To measure the level of knowledge about cognitive health, a questionnaire developed by the community service team was used. This activity consisted of six stages, namely opening, pretest, education, group brain exercises, discussion, and post-test. 51 participants, comprising PKK mothers, attended this activity. The most extensive age range was 31-40 years old, with 16 (31.4%) participants, and the largest occupation was housewife, with 36 (70.6%) participants. The education and discussion activities went well. The enthusiasm of the participants also increased with the joint brain exercises. The average pretest and posttest scores were 90.26 ± 10.78 and 93.68 ± 7.50, respectively. There was a significant difference in knowledge between the pretest and post-test measurements (p = 0.034; < 0.05). It is hoped that this educational activity will help form independent and happy elderly people.

Abstract

Demam tifoid merupakan salah satu penyakit yang menjangkit masyarakat Indonesia dengan 500 kasus per 100.000 penduduk dengan angka kematian mencapai 5%. Pengobatan utama demam tifoid adalah menggunakan berbagai macam antibiotik. Namun masyarakat Indonesia cenderung lebih memilih pengobatan alternatif atau tradisional. Salah satu obat tradisional demam tifoid adalah ekstrak cacing (Lumbricus rubellus) yang mempunyai kandungan protein sampai 71%. Kandungan protein sangat tergantung pada proses produksinya. Untuk itu diperlukan metode preparasi dan analisis untuk menentukan kadar protein yang bisa digunakan untuk menjamin mutu produk ekstrak cacing. Metode preparasi yang optimum  adalah dengan pemanasan pada temperatur 50°C selama 5 menit kemudian dianalisis kadar proteinnya dengan metode Lowry menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis pada panjang gelombang 650,8 nm. Metode linier, akurat dan teliti dengan batas deteksi sebesar 0,18 mg/mL dan batas kuantifikasi sebesar 0,58 mg/mL. Kata Kunci: Protein, Cacing Tanah, Spektrofotometri, Metode Lowry  Typhoid fever is a disease that affects Indonesian people with 500 cases per 100,000 population with a mortality rate of 5%. The main treatment for typhoid fever is the use of various antibiotics. However, Indonesian people prefer to use alternative or traditional medicine. One of the traditional medicines for typhoid fever is earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) extract which has a protein content of up to 71%. Protein content is highly dependent on the production process. For this reason, preparation and analysis methods are needed to determine protein levels that can be used to guarantee the quality of the worm extract products. The optimum preparation method is by heating at 50°C for 5 minutes and then the protein is analyzed using the Lowry's method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at wavelength of 650.8 nm. The method is linear, accurat and presice with  detection limit of 0.18 mg/mL and quantification limit of 0.58 mg/mL.
