Abstract

Background: Handcrafters of serati banten are professionals at risk of developing piriformis syndrome. This can happen because serati banten's working position is sitting for a long time. If this position is carried out continuously for a long period, it can cause musculoskeletal symptoms, namely piriformis syndrome. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sitting duration and piriformis syndrome in handcrafters of serati banten. Methods: This research was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional study design conducted from June to December 2023. Sampling was done using a purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 106 people in this study. This study's inclusion criteria were handcrafters of serati banten aged 45 to 55. The exclusion criteria included experiencing low back pain. The independent variable measured was sitting duration, determined by filling in the questionnaire, and the dependent variable measured was piriformis syndrome, calculated using the flexion adduction internal rotation test, active piriformis test, and pace test. Results: Based on the chi-square test results, the value of p=0.003 (p<0.05) was obtained, meaning a significant relationship exists. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between sitting duration and piriformis syndrome in handcrafters of serati banten.

Abstract

Background: Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is one of the common injuries to the knee that often occur, causing pain when doing physical activities such as squatting, running or going up and down stairs when the knee is bent. As the joint that supports the body the most, this certainly hinders a person's activities. PFPS is caused by various risk factors ranging from intrinsic factors such as muscle strength to extrinsic factors such as type of activity. This study aimed to determine the risk factors related to PFPS as a preventive effort by doing quadriceps muscle strengthening exercises.  Methods: This study used a literature review study design using secondary data from published literature. Literature searches were conducted online through PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, using the keywords “knee injury”, “patellofemoral pain”, “patellofemoral pain syndrome”, and “risk factors”, which selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: From the five studies that discussed risk factors related to PFPS, it was found that all journals showed quadriceps muscle strength, type of daily activity, Q-angle, joint laxity, hip tightness, patellar imbalance, overuse, and patellofemoral joint overpressure were associated with PFPS. Conclusion: Based on the literature that has been reviewed and the discussion, the dominant risk factor associated with PFPS was a decrease in hip muscle strength, especially quadriceps. Besides, several other contributing factors include the type of daily activity, Q-angle, joint laxity, hip tightness, patellar imbalance, overuse, and patellofemoral joint overpressure.

Abstract

Introduction: Abdominal circumference serves as an indicator in determining central obesity criteria. In the Asia-Pacific region, the central obesity criteria are abdominal circumference ?90 cm for men and ?80 cm for women. Menopausal women experience decreased estrogen levels associated with the loss of subcutaneous fat and increased abdominal fat. When there is excessive fat distribution in the central body, there is a possibility of decreased adiponectin levels as an anti-atherogenic factor, leading to increased blood pressure. This study aims to determine the relationship between abdominal circumference and blood pressure increase in menopausal women in the Mengwi District. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a population of menopausal women aged 45-55 years using a consecutive sampling technique. Subjects were selected according to inclusion, exclusion, and dropout criteria until the total number of subjects reached 85 individuals. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman rho test to determine the relationship between variables and the correlation strength. Results: Based on the data analysis, there was a significant relationship between abdominal circumference and blood pressure, as evidenced by a p-value of 0.018 (p<0.05) and a weak positive correlation coefficient (0.255). Conclusion: Abdominal circumference is associated with increased blood pressure in menopausal women with a weak correlation level. Keywords: abdominal circumference, blood pressure, women, menopause

Abstract

Introduction: Anxiety is a typical emotional response to daily pressures experienced across various age groups, from adolescents to adults. Over 14 million people in Indonesia, or 6% of the country's population, suffer from anxiety. Kaplan and Sadock suggest that individuals aged between 21 and 45 years are more likely to experience anxiety disorders. Frangipani flowers, abundant in Bali, possess relaxation effects that can alleviate stress, attributed to compounds such as triterpenoids, amyrin, geraniol, citronellol, and linalool. Method: The research design employed was cross-sectional. The study was conducted from March to November 2023. Subjects were selected using consecutive sampling techniques. The study included 40 female spa visitors aged 21-45 years. The Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale was used to measure anxiety levels. Results: Based on Spearman Rho test results, a p-value of 0.000 with p<0.05 was obtained, indicating a significant relationship between frangipani aromatherapy usage and anxiety levels. The findings revealed that among visitors who underwent treatment with frangipani aromatherapy, eight individuals (40%) experienced mild anxiety, six individuals (30%) experienced moderate stress, and four individuals (20%) experienced severe anxiety. Conclusion: This study concludes that frangipani aromatherapy usage is associated with decreased anxiety levels among visitors at Padma Resort Ubud Spa, based on statistical data analysis showing p<0.05. Abstract

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a surgical procedure performed to repair a torn ACL. This procedure may lead to atrophy of the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the vastus medialis oblique (VMO), which could potentially impact the patient’s psychological condition. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the cross-sectional area of the VMO and ACL-RSI with the lateral step down test and KOOS questionnaire in post-ACL reconstruction patients. Methods: This study is a literature review that analyzes previous research articles as secondary data sources. The literature search was conducted using the PEO framework: Patient (P) = post-ACL reconstruction patients, exposure (E) = cross-sectional area of the vastus medialis oblique, outcome (O) = lateral step down test and KOOS. The keywords used were: “cross-sectional area of vastus medialis oblique,” “anterior cruciate ligament return to sport injury,” “lateral step down test,” “knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score questionnaire,” and “anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction,” selected based on their relevance to the study topic. Results: Patients who had undergone ACL reconstruction showed no significant relationship between VMO CSA and KOOS scores (p > 0.05). However, there was a significant relationship between ACL-RSI scores and KOOS subscales of quality of life and sports and recreation (p < 0.05). No studies were found that directly examined the relationship between the lateral step down and either VMO CSA or ACL-RSI. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between psychological readiness (ACL-RSI) and perceived knee function (KOOS). However, no significant association was found between muscle morphology (VMO CSA) and KOOS. Furthermore, no direct evidence currently links either VMO CSA or ACL-RSI to lateral step down test performance in patients following ACL reconstruction.

Abstract

Elderly individuals undergo various changes in their social, mental, physical, and body functional aspects. Workers in the agricultural sector, especially in areas like Takmung Village, frequently engage in activities that require prolonged use of the knees. This can increase the risk of knee osteoarthritis and injuries, especially during actions such as kneeling, squatting, or standing for extended periods while working. As a result, many farmers in Takmung Village experience discomfort and pain in their knees. Therefore, the community service activity aims to identify the characteristics of the elderly and enhance knowledge and understanding related to the prevention and management of ACL injuries and knee osteoarthritis. The community service activity was conducted from June to August 2023 at the Banjar Lepang Meeting Hall in Takmung Village, Klungkung Regency, and was attended by 54 productive elderly individuals. The activities began with planning, permit management, coordination meetings, training preparation, socialization implementation, health examinations, and pre-test and post-test evaluations. Out of the 54 elderly participants, 53 showed increased knowledge through pre-test and post-test assessments, while only one experienced a decrease. The impact of the socialization activities resulted in improved knowledge among the elderly regarding methods to prevent ACL injuries and knee osteoarthritis. They also gained awareness of suitable physical exercises to prevent and alleviate symptoms associated with ACL injuries and knee osteoarthritis conditions.
