Abstract

Abstract

The Bone Watershed (DAS Bone) in Gorontalo Province serves as a vital resource supporting agriculture, fisheries, and clean water supply. However, it faces significant challenges such as land conversion, deforestation, resource exploitation, and weak oversight of illegal mining activities. This study aims to evaluate community perceptions of the management and utilization of DAS Bone and to identify sustainability challenges. A mixed-method approach was applied, combining quantitative surveys using a Likert scale with qualitative in-depth interviews involving 100 respondents living in the watershed area. Findings reveal that most community members have a positive perception of the importance of watershed conservation and believe that environmental sustainability has been considered in current management efforts. Nonetheless, respondents also highlighted a lack of regular outreach and insufficient government supervision, particularly concerning gold and C-excavation mining. Economically, water and fisheries usage provide tangible benefits, whereas agriculture is seen as less supportive of livelihoods due to flood vulnerability. On the other hand, there is strong community support for renewable energy development, such as mini-hydro and psycho hydro technologies, due to their environmental friendliness and socio-economic benefits. This study recommends enhancing community involvement, integrated monitoring systems, and sustainable infrastructure and energy planning. The findings are expected to serve as a policy input for local governments to design more community-based and sustainable watershed management strategies.

Abstract

Creativity is defined as a person's ability to create something new, which is the result of a series of discoveries that enable a person to think creatively. This research aims to show whether there is an increase in the creativity of class This type of research is classroom action research. Based on the research results, it was found that an increase in students' creativity in cycle I and cycle II in the application of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model was obtained for cycle I, 45% in the poor category. This is because students have not been able to develop their creative ideas in making maps. In cycle II the score was 95% in the good or optimal category. Increasing student creativity optimally shows that teachers are trying to improve the quality of learning, which can be seen from increasing student creativity. The research results show that the application of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model can increase the creativity of class X-1 students in Mapping material at SMA Negeri 1 Botumoito.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the erosion hazard level in the Bone-Gorontalo River Basin (DAS) using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) for the years 2013 and 2023. The data utilized in this study is secondary, consisting of official documents, scientific articles, and information from statistical agencies. A qualitative descriptive research method is applied to provide an in-depth overview of changes in soil erosion conditions. The analysis results show that the area classified as very light (Class I) increased from 3,873.84 hectares in 2013 to 5,404.92 hectares in 2023, reflecting an improvement in soil conditions. Although there was an increase in the light category (Class II), areas in the moderate (Class III) and heavy (Class IV) categories also saw an increase, indicating a need for further intervention. The total annual erosivity decreased from 1,180.70 to 766.65, indicating a positive response to climate change and improved land management. This study recommends more intensive conservation actions to reduce erosion risks, especially in areas that remain vulnerable.

Abstract

Watershed management requires active community participation as a key actor in ensuring environmental sustainability. This study aims to analyze the forms, levels, and factors influencing community participation in the management of the Bone Bolango Watershed in Gorontalo Province. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data from questionnaires distributed to 45 respondents. The results show that 75.6% of respondents are unaware of watershed programs, and only 24.4% have been involved in the planning stage. In the implementation stage, participation reaches 53.3%, mainly in reforestation and waste management activities. About 48.9% are aware of the evaluation process, but only 40% consider it transparent. Some community members (44.4%) perceive economic benefits, especially from planting productive trees. Educational activities are considered effective by 71.1% of respondents, although participation remains limited. The Bone Watershed Forum is viewed as strategic, yet community involvement needs to be strengthened. Enhancing local institutional capacity, transparency, and cross-sector collaboration is essential to improving sustainable community participation in watershed management.

Abstract

Improving the quality of education requires significant advancements in various aspects, including curriculum development, learning innovation, and the provision of educational facilities and infrastructure. One approach that is believed to enhance the quality of learning is the use of digital-based media. The use of engaging learning media, such as digital magazines, is thought to increase students' interest and understanding of the subject matter, including Geography, which is often considered less engaging. However, the impact of using digital magazine-based learning media on students' learning outcomes in Geography has not been extensively explored, creating a gap that needs to be addressed. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of using digital magazine-based learning media on students' learning outcomes in Geography, employing an experimental method. The subjects of this research were students from classes X IIS 1 and X IIS 2. The results show that the use of digital magazine media significantly affects students' learning outcomes. Based on the t-test data analysis, a significant difference was found between the learning outcomes of students in the experimental class and the control class, with the average improvement in the experimental class being 83.94, while the control class showed an improvement of only 76.97. The t-test revealed a t-value of 4.013, which is greater than the t-table value of 1.859 at the α = 5% significance level, thus the hypothesis is accepted. These findings suggest that using digital magazines can be an effective alternative to improve students' learning outcomes in Geography. This research opens up the possibility for the broader application of digital learning media across various subjects, contributing to the development of innovative teaching methods that are in line with current technological advancements

Abstract

This study analyzes changes in built-up areas in Kabila District, Bone Bolango Regency, using the Normalized Difference Built-Up Index (NDBI) derived from Landsat 8 imagery from 2017, 2020, and 2023. Multitemporal satellite data were processed using ArcGIS to calculate NDBI values and map the spatial distribution of built-up land. NDBI values increased from 0.143 in 2017 to 0.132 in 2020, and continued to rise in 2023. Built-up areas expanded from 512.35 hectares (40.96%) in 2017 to 546.18 hectares (43.62%) in 2020, and reached 570.35 hectares (45.6%) in 2023. The expansion mainly occurred in the central and southern areas, indicating urban growth and land conversion from agricultural to residential use. This shift potentially contributes to higher surface temperatures and reduced thermal comfort. The study highlights the importance of spatial data in monitoring urban development and provides essential input for sustainable and adaptive spatial planning in response to increasing development pressures.
