Abstract

Mycotoxins are toxic metabolites produced by some fungal species commonly found in food and feed, particularly in cereals. In intensive production systems, dairy cattle are commonly fed with cereal-richdiets and, consequently, are more exposed to micotoxins. Besides, such diet is often associated with ahigher risk of rumen acidosis which can also affect the performance and the helath of animal. In addition, the efficacy of microbial detoxification can be reduced during acidosis. For instance, some authors observeda decrease in the number of protozoa that are responsible for the degradation of some mycotoxins. Anotherconsequence of acidosis is the potential modification of ruminal absorption of mycotoxins, which until nowhas received scarce attention. Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, probiotic additives have been shown toreduce the post-feeding drop in rumen pH and to increase the number of ruminal protozoa. This effect canbe positive in reducing the absorption and toxicity of mycotoxins in ruminantia.

Abstract

This article is a dynamics synthesis of milk production data of dairy goat fed diet containingconcentrate supplemented with PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acid), yeast and curcuma. Twenty (20) dairy goats of Ettawa crossbred in late lactation phage were grouped into fiveof four goats to receive five treatments in in Randomized Complete Block design. Thetreatments were no supplement (PD0), 3 tablets of Asifit (PDA), 5g/d yeast (PDY), 20g/dcurcuma (PDC), and a mix of 5g/d yeast and 20g/d curcuma (PDM). The concentratecontained of PUFA sources (roasted ground corn, roasted soy bean meal, and corn oil),soybean by-product; roughage provided was King Grass. Milk yield was recorded daily, pre, treatment, and post then calculated all the way from pre to post treatment. Milk yield werehigher significantly (P<0.05) in PDA (538.7 g/d) and PDY (522.3g/d) compared to PD0(336.3g/d), PDC (322.3g/d) and PDM (392.0g/d). Average temperature and relativehumidity in the farm were 26.94 ± 2.280 C and 78.83 ± 7.34 %. Yeast supplementation eithersolely or in combination with curcuma is considered better in milk production dynamics inpre, treatment, post.

Abstract

Increased age will affect the bacterial population of the human digestive tract, in which many bacteria will adapt and colonize different sites. Combining probiotics and prebiotics in what has been called a synbiotic could beneficially affect the host by improving survival and implantation/adhesion of live microbial dietary supplements in the gastrointestinal flora. Probiotic bacteria are expected to survive in the digestive tract to give health effects to the host by balancing the intestinal microflora. The addition of fructo-oligosaccharides is expected to increase viability and growth of probiotics in the digestive tract. The objective of the current research is to investigate the effect of probiotic yoghurt and synbiotic yoghurt of Etawa Breed Cross Saanen (PESA) goats together with fructo-oligosaccharides, on female rats and to study the stability of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tracts. The results showed that synbiotic yoghurt intake had no significant influence (p>0.05) on ration consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion, final body weight and mortality. The synbiotic intake significantly increased the population of Bifidobacterium longum (p

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a complete ration silage made of cassava biomass  nitrogen retention, and metabolizable energy male ducks. Control diet consisted of corn, rice bran, coconut meal, soybean meal, vegetable oil, fish meal and premix. While the treatment of silage ration of cassava based (BBS) consisted of leaves, peel, and tubers of cassava, as well as a mix of fish meal, vegetable oil, premix, DL-methionine and L-lysine. The experimental design used was completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replicates ie S0 (100% control diet), S25 (75% control diet + 25% BBS silage), S50 (50% control diet + 50% BBS silage), S75 (25% control diet + 75% BBS silage), and S100 (100% BBS silage ration). Measurement of metabolizable energy and nitrogen retention was conducted using 25 male ducks aged 10 weeks maintained in metabolic cages and adapted to experimental diets for seven days. Ducks were fasted for 24 hours before the experimental diets were offered. Metabolizable energy and nitrogen retention were measured by the method of Sibbald (1989). The results showed that a decline in nitrogen retention and, metabolizable energy along with the increasing level of BBS silage in the rations. The conclusion of this study was the use of up to 75% BBS silage generated metabolizable energy and nitrogen retention that do not differ from the control ration.Key words: cassava silage, complete ration, male duck, metabolizable energy, nitrogen retention

Abstract

Forage is a feed source for ruminant livestock, but one of the limiting factors of forage is high content of fiber in old forage plants. The fiber content in forage can only be degraded by rumen microbes. One of the rumen microbes that has fiber degrading activity is rumen anaerobic fungi because it can produce very active enzymes to degrade lignocellulose. The rumen anaerobic fungi are divided into several genera which are grouped base on the number of flagella in zoospores, thallus morphology and rhizoid type. The presence of fungi in the rumen is very important because fungi can form rhizoid which will penetrate the feed particles and degrade plant cell walls physically and chemically. In addition, fungi can produce fiber degrading enzymes such as cellulase, hemicellulase, pectinase, and lignocellulase which can increase feed digestibility. However, in Indonesia there is not much study of the potential for rumen anaerobic fungi, so the aims of this review paper is to discuss the potential of anaerobic fungi rumen in improving fiber digestibility in livestock.

Abstract

Abstract

Kata kunci: Ekstrak daun murbei, 1-deoxynojirimycin, residu fermentasi in vitro, mencit.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of aflatoxins on rumen fermentation in vitro and obtained rumen bacterial isolates capable of binding aflatoxin. This trial consisted of three stages. The first trial was a reduction of aflatoxin in the rumen in vitro. The second experiment was the isolation and characterization of rumen bacteria that could bind aflatoxin. The third stage was to test the holding capacity of aflatoxin by rumen bacteria. This study used cow rumens. The Research design used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) factorial 2x3 and 2 replications. The first factor was the presence of aflatoxin (with and without the addition of aflatoxin), the second factor was the type of feed (diet and glucose), and the third factor was the time of incubation (0 and 4 hours). The results showed the presence of aflatoxin did not affect rumen conditions (pH, volatile fatty acid (VFA), and rumen lactic acid concentration), and the results obtained 6 isolates and isolation of rumen bacteria to bind aflatoxin up to 50%.

Abstract

Loyok Village is located on the Mount Siu-Kotaraja tourism route which is visited by many local and foreign tourists. This causes the village administrator to hope that Loyok Village can be more advanced to support the tourism program by having superior products in the form of duck meat and eggs. So far, livestock farming, both large and small, is still used as a side business. Livestock rearing is done in free time and with an irregular feeding schedule. This activity aims to disseminate information, increase knowledge and skills in the business of raising ducks independently. Service activities are carried out through providing management materials for raising ducks, local feed ingredients as alternative feed ingredients, providing motivation for raising livestock, and the importance of forming a farmer group in Loyok Village. The service activity was attended by the Village Head and his staff, breeders, and female livestock farmers. Service participants enthusiastically participated in the delivery of material and discussions during service activities. To achieve maximum productivity, ducks must pay attention to cage management, feed formulas that are in accordance with the needs of ducks, and environmental hygiene to avoid ducks being exposed to various kinds of diseases. Several programs resulted from this service activity, including making Loyok Village a fostered village of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry by involving academics in village planning, so that the development of the livestock sector develops in a directed manner. from this service activity is an increase in the knowledge, insight, and enthusiasm of the service participants in increasing the duck farming business.

Abstract

The use of soy bean waste is an alternative roughage feed for local cattle fattening based on concentrate, particularly in the dry season. This study aimed to examine the productivity and income over feed cost of PO cattle fattened using ration containing soybeans pod for 100 days. Twelve male PO cattle with an average age of 18 months and an initial live weight of 160,11±19,1 kg were used in this study. They were allotted to four different ration treatments, including R1 (30% native grass +70% concentrate ration), R2 (15% native grass + 15% soybean pod + 70% concentrate ration), R3 (30% soybean pod + 70% concentrate ration) and R4 (30% soybean pod silage + 70% concentrate ration). The observed parameters comprised feed cost, cattle revenue, and IOFC. The results showed that the PO cattle fattening on 70% concentrate + 30% soybean pod silage (R4) gave the highest IOFC since they had the highest productivity during fattening.
