Abstract

This study examines the views of grassroots Javanese Muslims in Wukirsari, Imogiri, and Yogyakarta toward the authority of local kyai and television preachers (ustadz/ustadzah on the screen). This study aims to analyze how advances in media technology change the pattern of Islamic knowledge transmission and challenge traditional religious authority. Using a critical phenomenological approach, this study examines how media exposure shapes public perception, elevating celebrity preachers through the appeal of popularity while marginalizing traditional kyai rooted in local pesantren and social relations. The findings show that television creates a form of hyperreality that simulates religious legitimacy through visual performance, so the boundaries between ulama based on scientific sanad and media-constructed religious figures become blurred. However, many local kyai demonstrate adaptability to the digital shift without losing their traditional authority or social closeness to the community. The novelty of this study lies in the understanding that the contestation between traditional and modern Islamic authority is not simply a change in the pattern of preaching but also a complex identity struggle in the digital landscape. This study shows that symbolic authority in Islam is increasingly mediated, negotiated, and contested at the grassroots level, influenced by cultural and technological heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a flipped classroom e-learning model based on Moodle to improve learning outcomes in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject for Grade X students at SMK N 1 Praya. The research employed the ADDIE development model, involving stages of analysis (student needs and learning barriers), design (LMS structure, blended strategies), development (digital content, expert validation), implementation (trial in class X Hospitality), and evaluation (formative-summative assessment). The model features pre-class videos, interactive quizzes, e-modules, and online assignments integrated into Moodle. Feasibility was assessed by media, material, and model experts using Likert-scale instruments, scoring 4.0 (feasible) and 4.7 (very feasible). Practicality was evaluated through teacher responses, scoring 4.85 (very practical). Effectiveness was measured via pretest and posttest using the N-Gain formula, showing an average gain of 0.59 (moderate improvement). The model was trialed with 34 students, considering the school's characteristics (vocational focus, limited practice time, and low student engagement). Results indicate that the flipped classroom e-learning model is feasible, practical, and effective in enhancing student outcomes in vocational science learning.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of school-family partnerships amid digitization and the changing role of parents, especially millennial parents, in education. This study investigates the preferences of parents of primary school pupils in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, about effective methods of school-family collaboration in the digital age. Data were collected from 334 parents across five districts/cities in Yogyakarta utilizing a quantitatively descriptive survey approach, employing a structured questionnaire evaluated by experts and based on Epstein’s framework and parental involvement theory. The test identified five primary dimensions of parental preferences: participation, communication, digital engagement, parenting demands, and relationship quality. The results indicate that 98.8% of parents encountered rigid school timetables, whereas 94.3% favored asynchronous digital communication methods, including message platforms and learning management systems. Furthermore, 87.5% appreciated polite, reciprocal engagement with educators, while 89.1% endorsed the incorporation of digital tools to enhance accessibility and facilitate real-time cooperation. Despite a robust desire to engage in their children's education, parents faced considerable obstacles, especially concerning professional obligations and inflexible school policies. This research advances the field by introducing a responsive, participatory blended approach designed for millennial parents' specific traits. The concept prioritizes adaptability, inclusiveness, and the strategic utilization of existing ICT infrastructure to facilitate significant engagement. The findings provide essential insights for policymakers and school leaders in formulating adaptive family involvement strategies that align with the contemporary reality and digital proficiency of today's families.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to conduct an in-depth examination of the implementation of the problem-based learning (PBL) process through SAR (Search and Rescue education and training) experienced by Basarnas Yogyakarta members. The PBL model, which is relevant to the needs of SAR personnel, helps them face emergency situations and prepares them through realistic and learner-centered education. This research used a qualitative method with a narrative approach. The subjects of this study are 10 SAR personnel. Data were collected using observation techniques, in-depth interviews, documentation, and triangulation. The data analysis technique follows the qualitative descriptive analysis model of Matthew B. Miles, A. Michael Huberman, & Johnny Saldana, which includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the learning process using the PBL model through SAR training is oriented toward student-centered learning. The extensive opportunities provided by the PBL model offer direct experience that aligns with the goals of SAR training, fostering the development of problem-solving skills, teamwork, motivation, and independent learning among SAR personnel. The results of this study are expected to make a significant contribution to SAR education literature, offer practical recommendations for developing more effective and responsive SAR training curricula, and provide practical guidelines for other training institutions. The results of this research can be a basis for developing SAR training policies and curricula that are more problem-solving oriented. Basarnas may consider adopting PBL as the main approach in SAR education and training across their units.

Abstract

This study aims to understand and analyze public reception of disinformation in Yogyakarta using Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory. The study used a qualitative method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with two types of informants, namely santri and abangan. This study found that audience reception of COVID-19 pandemic disinformation varied, some were in a dominant hegemonic, negotiating, or oppositional position. The findings of this study confirm the thesis of reception studies which state that every message spread in the media is received polysemically. However, in contrast to the assumptions of reception studies, the position of audience reception at each reading position which is fixed and comes from the same audience is not true. On the contrary, this study found that audience acceptance can change, sometimes in a dominant hegemonic code, sometimes in a negotiating position, and even an oppositional code. Changes in acceptance positions are highly dependent on the issues contained in the COVID-19 pandemic disinformation message.
