Abstract

Abstract

True Shallot Seed (TSS) is a healthy, cost-effective, and high-yielding alternative to shallot bulbs. However, TSS has a short shelf life due to deterioration during storage. Viability and vigor of deteriorated seed can be enhanced using Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR). Washed rice water contains macro and micronutrients that also support metabolic processes and improve the accumulation of seed nutrients during germination. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the role of matriconditioning with a mixture of PGPR and rice washing water in enhancing shallot seed vigor and viability. Shallot seed used in the study decreased physiological quality with 9.09% moisture and 52.25% germination. Matriconditioning had 5 treatments, namely Control (M0), Matriconditioning without PGPR (M1), Matriconditioning plus PGPR RhizomaX (M2), Matriconditioning plus PGPR BenprimA (M3), and Matriconditioning plus PGPR FloraOne (M4). Washed rice water had 3 levels, namely Control (A0), 50% concentration (A1), and 100% concentration (A2). Other variables examined in this study included germination rate, maximum growth potential, relative growth rate, uniformity, and vigor index. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Duncan test was applied for significant results at the 5% level. The results showed that matriconditioning using a mixture of rice husk charcoal and PGPR RhizomaX (M2) produced enhanced vigor and viability of deteriorated shallot seed. The application of leachate water for 5 days during germination, specifically at a concentration of 100% (A2), significantly improved vigor and viability. Finally, the interaction between treatment M2A2 had the best vigor and viability among all other treatments.

Abstract

Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) is a popular mushroom in Indonesia, with several factors affecting its yield, including seed quality, cultivation methods, and environmental conditions. The choice of planting media is crucial, as it must provide essential nutrients. Common media include straw and coffee husks, with the addition of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) enhancing productivity. Maja fruit is particularly beneficial due to its NPK content, supporting mushroom growth. This research, conducted from February to May 2024 in Klungkung Village, Jember Regency, employed a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications. The study tested media compositions—100% sawdust (M1), 75% sawdust and 25% straw (M2), and 75% sawdust and 25% coffee husk (M3)—alongside varying LOF concentrations: no LOF (P0), 75 ml/liter (P1), 150 ml/liter (P2), and 225 ml/liter (P3). Results indicated that the interaction between LOF concentration and media composition significantly affected the total number and weight of fruiting bodies. The best combination was P1M2 (75 ml LOF/liter with 75% sawdust + 25% straw). Media composition significantly influenced the number and weight of fruiting bodies, with M3 (75% sawdust + 25% coffee skin) recommended as the optimal choice. LOF concentration notably impacted total fruit body weight, while other parameters showed no significant differences.

Abstract

Blueberry Vaccinium corymbosum L. is a fruit plant that has high economic value and many benefits. Blueberries in Indonesia are not yet in great demand so domestic needs are still met by imports. Conventional blueberry propagation is done using stem cuttings. The disadvantages of conventional propagation are that seedling growth is slow, requires a large source of planting material, and is ineffective. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of the combination of BAP and IBA hormones on the induction of axillary shoots in effective in vitro propagation of blueberries. The explants used were axillary buds of blueberry, sterilized using fungicide, bactericide, bayclin, sodium hypochlorite and alcohol. The research design used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a combination of BAP and IBA hormones. The BAP hormone consists of three concentrations, namely 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mg/L. The IBA hormone consists of three concentrations, namely 0, 0.1, and 0.2 mg/L. Based on research results, the combination treatment of BAP and IBA succeeded in inducing shoots, but was not able to induce roots. The BAP 0.5 mg/L treatment showed the best results with a shoot emergence rate of 4.33 weeks, shoot height of 1.68 cm, number of shoots 1.67, and number of leaves 12.67. The findings of this study highlight the potential of BAP and IBA hormone combinations in accelerating blueberry shoot induction, offering an alternative propagation method that could support domestic production and reduce dependence on imports.

Abstract

The majority of residents in Suling Wetan Village work as farmers and rely heavily on self-produced seeds due to the village’s remote location. One high-potential crop for marginal lands in the area is patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), a plant valued for its essential oil. However, the propagation of patchouli remains a significant challenge for local farmers due to limited knowledge and skills. This community engagement program aimed to enhance farmers’ capacities in patchouli propagation through a combination of awareness campaigns, technical workshops, hands-on training, direct field mentoring, and participatory monitoring and evaluation. Evaluation was conducted through direct observation and participant surveys. The results showed that 96% of participants gained a clear understanding of patchouli propagation techniques, and all participants acknowledged the importance of the program and expressed hope for its continuation. The activity successfully contributed to increasing farmers’ independence in sustainable patchouli seedling production.

Abstract

Like other educators, school counselors initially responded to the Covid-19 crisis with confusion and uncertainty, for which they needed solutions with collaboration and innovation. In schools with a framework used to focus on the 'whole child.' MTSS supports academic growth and achievement, but also supports many other areas. MTSS is a holistic learning approach to support students through large-scale life changes due to the global pandemic. The pandemic is prompting school counselors to turn to virtual tools to engage with and track students and families. School counselors make use of certain technological tools, but also offer some caveats about their use. During the pandemic, school counselors are expected to provide comprehensive services to students and families, and instead step into a leadership role that allows them to provide comprehensive virtual social-emotional and academic learning in counseling services to their students. The need for school counselors to stay connected to students during COVID-19 through providing virtual advice, providing virtual counseling (individual and/or group): trauma care, cyberbullying, managing expectations, paying attention to burnout, and managing burnout. For the future of students, meet students wherever they are while respecting digital security, cyberbullying, and protecting student privacy, and taking care to ensure confidentiality.
