Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari pengaruh jenis kelamin dalam strategi- strategi berkomunikasi yang digunakan siswa pembelajar Bahasa Inggris dan strategi berkomunikasi apa yang lebih sering digunakan oleh siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Universitas Lampung dimana sampel penelitiannya adalah siswa tahun kedua Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Strategi-strategi berkomunikasi siswa diambil melalui interview task. Data lalu diolah menggunakan SPSS. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 394 strategi yang digunakan oleh laki-laki dan perempuan. Siswa laki-laki dan perempuan cenderung menggunakan “fillers” lebih sering daripada strategi-strategi lain. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh signifikan dari jenis kelamin dalam strategi-strategi berkomunikasi. Akhirnya, fillers yang digunakan oleh laki-laki dan perempuan disebabkan oleh status mereka sebagai siswa pembelajar Bahasa Inggris dan kesempatan mereka yang lebih besar untuk berbicara Bahasa Inggris. The study intended at investigating the effect of gender on Communication Strategies used by ELT students and which strategy is most frequently used by male and female students. This study was conducted in Lampung University whose participants were second year students of English Education Study Program. Students’ communication strategies were elicited through interview task. The data were then computed by SPSS. The results of the research then show that there are 394 communication strategies used by both males and female. The male and female students tend to use fillers more frequently than the other strategies. It also shows that there is no significant effect of gender on communication strategies. Last, fillers used by both males and females are possibly caused by their status as ELT students and their possibility to speak English more as ELT students. Keywords: communication strategies, ELT students, gender.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk 1) memodifikasi model pengajaran membaca dengan KWL strategi (Know, Want to know, Learned) di perguruan tinggi, 2) menyelidiki peningkatan nilai siswa sesudah diajarkan dengan KWL strategi, 3) mengetahui aspek membaca yang paling meningkat sesudah diajar dengan menggunakan strategi KWL, 4) mengetahui apakah siswa yang mempunyai kebiasaan membaca yang baik juga memiliki kemampuan membaca yang baik pula. Penelitian ini dilakukan di STKIP Tunas Palapa Lampung Tengah. Pre-experiment based one one-group pretest- posttest design digunakan dalam penelitian ini. T-test digunakan untuk melihat perbedaan skor. Hasilnya adalah terdapat perbedaan dan peningkatan yang significant setelah diajar dengan menggunakan strategi KWL. Aspek membaca yang paling meningkat setelah di ajar dengan KWL adalah mengindentifikasi ide pokok. Siswa yang mempunyai kebiasaan membaca yang baik memiliki kemampuan membaca yang baik pula. Ini terjadi karena KWL dapat meningkatkan schemata siswa yang sangat penting untuk diisikan di kolom Know.The aims of this research were to 1) modify model of teaching reading by using KWL (Know, Want to know, Learned) strategy in college, 2) investigate the significant improvement after being taught by KWL strategy, 3) know the aspects of reading which is influenced the most and 4) find out whether students who have good reading habit have good reading ability. The research was done at STKIP Tunas Palapa Central Lampung. Pre-experiment based on one-group pretest posttest design was used in this research. T-test was used to see the improvement score. The results was there was significant improvement of students reading ability. Aspect which was influenced the most was identifying main idea. Students who had good reading habit had good reading ability as well. It happened because it could increase students schemata that was neccesary to be put in Know column. Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan apakah pre-questioning dalam teks personal recount dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa khususnya kelas X. Desain dari penelitian ini adalah time series design. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X di SMAN 2 Bandar Lampung pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan t-nilai adalah 6.329 dan t-tabel adalah 2.093 dengan tingkat signifikan 0.05. Dari hasil tersebut bisa dikatakan bahwa pre-questioning dalam personal recount teks efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.The objective of the research was to find out whether pre-questioning in personal recount text could significantly increase students reading comprehension of the tenth grade students. The design of this research was time series design. The population of the research was the tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Bandar Lampung in academic year 2012/2013. The result of this research revealed that the t-value was 6.329 and the t-table was 2.093 with the level of significance 0.05. From that result, it could be said that the use of pre-questioning in personal recount text was effective to increase students reading comprehension ability.Keywords: personal recount text, pre-questioning, reading comprehension

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan hubungan yang signifikan antara kesadaran morfologi dan pemahaman membaca siswa. Sejumlah 32 siswa dari kelas XI IPA 1 SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung dipilih sebagai kelas sampel. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah ex-post-facto perihal penelitian korelasi. Alat pengumpulan datanya adalah tes Morphological Awareness dan Reading Comprehension. Hasil penelitian menunjukan koefisien korelasi terhitung lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai kritis dari r tabel (0.7290.449). Selain itu dianalisis juga regresi sederhana untuk melihat seberapa jauh kesadaran morfologi berpengaruh terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa. Hasil regresi sederhana menunjukan kesadaran morfologi berpengaruh 51.5% terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan antara kesadaran morfologi dan pemahaman membaca siswa. Hal itu berarti bahwa morfologi dapat diterapkan sebagai salah satu strategi demi meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.The objective of this study was to find out whether there was significant correlation between students morphological awareness and their reading comprehension. Thirty two students of XI IPA 1 SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung were selected as the sample class of this research. The design used was ex-post-facto design in term of co-relational study. The instruments were Morphological Awareness and Reading Comprehension tests. The result of calculation showed that coefficient correlation was higher than the critical value of r table (0.7290.449). Simple regression was done to analyze how far the contribution of morphological awareness to students reading comprehension. The result interpreted that morphological awareness influenced 51.5% toward reading comprehension. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was significant correlation between students morphological awareness and their reading comprehension. It implied that morphology can be applied as strategy of increasing students reading comprehension.Keywords: morphological awareness, reading comprehension, reading

Abstract

Abstract:This research was conducted based on the consideration that studentsstill got low scores in reading comprehension test. There were many factors thatinfluenced students’ problems in comprehending the reading text, e.g. the use ofteaching strategy. One of strategies which considered applicable and useful inincreasing students’ reading comprehension achievement is reciprocal teachingtechnique. Therefore, this research was intended to find out whether there was adifference in students’ reading comprehension achievement before and after beingtaught through reciprocal teaching technique and to investigate the students’activity in teaching learning process using reciprocal teaching technique.The researcher administered this research at MA Nurul Ulum Kotagajah,Lampung Tengah. The participants included one class at the first year. A pre testposttest control group design was applied in this quantitative research. The datawhich were collected were analyzed by using Repeated Measure t-test withStatistically Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0.Based on the calculation of t-test, the result showed that the students’ mean scoreof post test in experimental class (75.43%) was higher than pre test (51.32%) withthe gained score was 24.11%. In which significance was determined by p0.05.The t-test revealed that the result was significant (p=000). It showed thathypothesis was accepted, since there was a difference in students’ readingcomprehension achievement before and after being taught through reciprocalteaching technique. It was proved that, reciprocal teaching technique was effectivein increasing students’ reading comprehension achievement and also can improvestudents’ activity in teaching learning process. Oleh karena itu,penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan prestasipemahaman membaca siswa sebelum dan setelah diajarkan melalui reciprocalteaching technique dan untuk melihat aktivitas siswa dalam proses belajarmengajar menggunakan reciprocal teaching technique.Peneliti melaksanakan penelitian ini di MA Nurul Ulum Kotagajah, LampungTengah. Para pesertanya satu kelas yaitu siswa kelas 1. Sebuah pretes-posttestdesain control group yang diterapkan dalam penelitian kuantitatif ini. Data yangdikumpulkan dianalisis dengan menggunakan Ukur berulang t-test denganstatistik Paket Sosial Sains (SPSS) versi 16.0.Berdasarkan perhitungan t-test, hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswadari postest kelas eksperimen (75,43%) lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan pre test(51.32%) dengan kenaikan yang diperoleh adalah 24,11%. Di mana signifikansiditentukan oleh p 0,05. The t-test menunjukkan bahwa hasilnya signifikan (p =000). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis diterima, karena ada perbedaan dalampencapaian pemahaman membaca siswa sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan melaluireciprocal teaching technique. Itu membuktikan bahwa, reciprocal teachingtechnique efektif dalam meningkatkan prestasi pemahaman membaca siswa danjuga dapat meningkatkan aktivitas siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar. Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan menghubungkan korelasi antara penguasaan tata bahasa siswa terhadap kemampuan membaca. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan desain ex-post facto. Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan probabiliti sampling acak sederhana. Kelas X 5 terpilih sebagai kelas sampel dan kelas X 6 dipilih sebagai kelas uji coba. Data dikumpulkan dengan pemberian tes tata bahasa, tes kosa kata, dan tes membaca pemahaman. Tidak ada pengajaran yang dilakukan di kelas sampel. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik (SPSS) versi 15.0. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa koefisien korelasi penguasaan tata bahasa siswa dan penguasaan kosa kata dan kemampuan membaca mereka adalah 0,803 pada tingkat signifikan 0,01. Ini berarti bahwa variabel tersebut berkorelasi positif. Koefisien korelasi (nilai p) lebih tinggi dari rtabel (0,803 0,393). Penelitian ini berarti ada hubungan yang signifikan antara tata bahasa siswa dan penguasaan kosa kata dan kemampuan membaca mereka. This research is quantitative by nature using ex-post facto design. The sample was chosen by using simple probability random sampling. Class X 5 was chosen as the sample class and class X 6 was chosen as the try out class. The data were collected by administering grammar test, vocabulary test, and reading comprehension test. There were no treatments conducted in the sample class. The data were analyzed by using Statistical Packaged for Social Science (SPSS) version 15.0.The test result showed that the coefficient correlation of students grammar mastery and vocabulary mastery and their reading ability is 0.803 at the significant level of 0.01. It means that those variables positively correlated. The correlation coefficient (rvalue) is higher than rtable (0.803 0.393). It means that there is significant correlation between students grammar and vocabulary mastery and their reading ability.Keywords: grammar mastery, reading ability, vocabulary mastery

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah ada peningkatan signifikan pada keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa antara pre-test dan post-test setelah penerapan teknik TPS. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa tingkat kedua SMA. Tes membaca digunakan sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Repeated Measure t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan membaca siswa antara pre-test dan post-test dengan tinggat signifikansi 0.05. Hal ini menandakan bahwa teknik TPS dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa.The objectives of the research were to find out whether there was a statistically significant difference of the students’ reading comprehension achievement between the pre-test and post-test in the implementation of TPS technique. The approach of the research was quantitative. The subjects were 30 students of the second grade of SMA. The data were collected through the reading test. Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out whether there is significant difference of students’ reading comprehension achievement between students who are taught through group work and individual work and to determine which one of those two teaching techniques is better for students’ reading comprehension achievement. The research design used true experimental pretest posttest design. Two classes; class X.4 and class X.5 were taken as the sample of the research. Each class consists of 38 students. The result shows that there is a significant difference of students’ reading comprehension achievement between students who were taught by using group work and individual work. The significant increase of students’ achievement in the experimental class 1 (group work) was (p0.05, p=0.000) with the increase of mean in pretest and posttest was 19.52 points. Meanwhile, the significant increase of students’ achievement in the experimental class 2 (individual work) was (p0.05, p=0.000) with the increase was only 7.81 points. The researcher suggests that the English teacher should apply group work techniques in teaching reading comprehension as one of the alternative techniques especially because it has been found that the technique can make the students successful in learning reading comprehension.  Keywords: Group Work,Individual Work, Reading Comprehension Achievement, and Teaching Techniques.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mencaritahu prosedur dalam pengajaran membaca melalui strategi QAR, untuk mengetahui perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian membaca siswa setelah di ajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi QAR. Penelitian ini juga untuk mencari tahu masalah yang di hadapi siswa ketika mereka diajarkan dengan menggunakan QAR. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelas 8 SMPN5 Bandar Lampung.Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes pilihanganda dan kuesionair. Hasil research question pertama menunjukan bahwa siswa diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi QAR yang diadaptasi dari Raphael. Research question kedua menujukan bahwa adanya perbedaan yang signifikan pada pencapaian membaca siswa setelah mereka diajarkan dengan menggunakan setrategi QAR. Penemuan ini juga menunjukan bahwa, meskipun ada perbedaan yang signifikan namun ada beberapa siswa yang menghadapi kesulitan di dalam membaca. Hal ini mungkin dikarnakan beberapa siswa masih binggung dalam menggunakan strategi QAR.The aims of this research were to implement the procedure of teaching reading through question answer relationship, to find out a significant difference in students reading achievement after being taught through QAR, to find out the studentsproblems when they were taught by using QAR. It was conducted at the eighth grade of SMPN5 Bandar Lampung. The data were collected by using a multiple choice test and questionnaires. The result of the first research question showed that the researcher taught students by using QAR strategy which was adapted from Raphael, the second research question showed that there was significant difference of the students reading achievement after being taught through QAR. This finding also showed that even though there was a significant difference, the students still got difficulties in reading. Beside, the result also showed that some of students got problems when they were taught by using QAR. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik collaborative terhadap prestasi menulis siswa. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 29 siswa kelas kedua sekolah menengah pertama (SMP). Tes menulis digunakan sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Repeated Measure t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan pada  kemampuan menulis siswa antara pre-test dan post-test dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,05. Hal ini menandakan bahwa teknik collaborative dapat di terapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa. The objective of this research was to find out the effect of collaborative technique on the students’ writing achievement. The approach of the research was quantitative. The subjects were 29 students of the second grade of middle school. The writing tests were used as the research instrument. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure t-test.
