Abstract

The construction of the body of minibus passenger vehicles usually uses walls, roofs and floors called vehicle panels. The vehicle panel itself is the most important part that supports safety and comfort for the occupants of the vehicle. Generally, the vehicle panel will cause a sound that makes passengers uncomfortable because of the noise that occurs due to the vibration of the vehicle engine and damaged road conditions. Excessive vibration can be reduced by increasing the rigidity of the panel by changing the shape such as beads, embossing, stiffeners, spot welded stiffenes, and grooves. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of borehole variation and the number of dimple holes on plate stiffness for its natural frequency response. This research method is shown as follows: making experimental designs, dimple manufacturing processes, measuring and analyzing the results of dimple-shaped plates with variations in boreholes and the number of dimple holes to stiffness for their natural frequency response response. Based on the results, the number of holes on the dimple plate affects the stiffness of the plate to its natural frequency response.

Abstract

Galvanized steel sheet is a low carbon steel that is often used in the manufacturing industry, especially in the automotive industry, this is because galvanized sheet has properties that are ductile, easy to form and resistant to corrosion, making it suitable for application as a vehicle body, but low carbon steel sheet has limitations on the level of stiffness of the sheet so that it will affect comfort due to vibration when applied to vehicle construction. The stiffness of the sheet can be increased by forming a groove profile through the rolling process and increasing the thickness of the sheet so that its stiffness and natural frequency value will increase. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of trapezoidal groove formation on the natural frequency of galvanized sheet by the rolling process using a bead rolling die with variations in groove width, groove depth and sheet thickness. The research method used is the experimental method, starting with the determination of the plate dimensions, the determination of the groove width and depth, the process of making groove profiles, the measurement and analysis of the results of the natural frequency values and plate stiffness. The dimensions of the test plates were 575 mm x 600 mm with thicknesses of 0.6 mm and 0.8 mm. The results showed that the increase in natural frequency and stiffness was affected by residual stress and plate thickness. The highest frequency obtained was 330.60 Hz on a plate with a groove width of 12 mm and a groove depth of 5 mm with a thickness of 0.8 mm, this result has increased compared to a smooth plate which is only 30.76 Hz.

Abstract

Thin plates are a common material used in the automotive industry for vehicle panels. Galvanized metal materials are typically selected for use in vehicle panel construction due to their ductile nature, malleability, and resistance to corrosion. The function of vehicle panels is of great consequence with regard to the safety and comfort of the vehicle. The level of comfort experienced by vehicle occupants is influenced by noise, which is a consequence of vibrations generated by the engine and the road surface. The detrimental effects of excessive vibration can be mitigated by enhancing the rigidity of the panel. One method of achieving this is through the formation of a groove profile on the panel's surface, utilizing a bead roll process. The objective of this study is to ascertain the impact of variations in the width and depth of the groove, with a trapezoidal shape, on the stiffness of 0.6 mm thick galvanized plates for natural frequency response. The research method entailed the creation of an experimental design, the formation of a groove profile through the bead roll process, and the subsequent natural frequency testing of the plates using a Vibroport 80. The results of this testing were then subjected to analysis. The findings indicated that the variation in groove width and depth had no discernible impact on the plate stiffness with respect to the natural frequency response.

Abstract

The cold forming process for thin plates is widely used and essential in the manufacturing industry, particularly in the automotive sector. One such cold-forming method is the bead roll process, commonly referred to as "Bead Roll." This process is popular due to its low cost and its ability to improve vibration resistance effectively. The "Bead Roller" machine is used to create grooves or profiles on sheet metal plates. Based on experimental analysis of the collected data, the plate with the best damping capability was found to be the one processed using a roll width of 10 mm and a rolling depth of 3 mm. This research is expected to expand knowledge about plates as an innovative new form and serve as a reference for future research and development
