Abstract

Background : In 2013, the prevalence of stunting and severe stunting in Brebes reached 26.9 % and 16.8 %. These prevalences of stunting were higher than the stunting prevlence in Central Java Province (11.0%). This study aimed to determine risk factors of stunting among children aged 12-24 months in Brebes District. Methods: This research was conducted with a case-control design on 77 cases (stunting) and 77 controls (normal) in Brebes Subdistrict. Data on birth weight, birth length, infection history, pesticide exposure were obtained through interviews, using structured questionnaires. The analysis was conducted by calculating Odd Ratios and logistic regressions. Results : Multivariate results showed that the risk factors of stunting in children aged 12-24 months in Brebes  subdistrict were low energy adequacy levels (OR =7.71; 95%CI: 3.63-16.3; p=0.001), low protein adequacy levels (OR=7.65 ; 95%CI:3.67-15.9, p=0.001); low zinc adequacy levels (OR=8.78; 95%CI:3.53-21.5, p=0,001); low birth weight (OR=3.63; 95%CI:1.65-7.96; p=0.002) and high exposure to pesticides (OR=8.48; 95%CI:3.93-18.28; p=0,001). These three variables are contributing to stunting of 45 %. Low compliance of vitamin A capsule consumption, the frequencies of diarrhea respiratory infection were not the risk factors for stunting in this study. Conclusions: The risk factors of stunting among children aged 12-24 months were low energy adequacy levels, low protein adequacy levels, low zinc adequacy levels, low birth weight and high exposure to pesticides. The highest risk was the high pesticide exposure.

Sample is taken by the used of purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation test and Spearman rank. The results showed that the level of energy intake was classified as lacking (69.6%), carbohydrate intake classified as lacking (69.6%), protein intake classified as lacking (45.7%), and fat intake was also lacking (80.4%). Body fat percentage classified as Latent Obese (32.6%), as well as Physical fitness classified as very lacking (67.4%). The results showed no correlation between the level of energy intake (p = 0.186), carbohydrate (p = 0.061), protein (0.576), fat (0.485) with the percentage of body fat among nutritional student of Public Health Faculty 2018. There was a correlation between body fat percentage (p = 0.034 ) with physical fitness, among 2018 Public Health Nutrition students. This study recommends that students pay attention to their eating habits and eating patterns in accordance with nutritional principles, so that the body can fulfill the nutrition that needed in order to improve their physical fitness.

Abstract

Malnutrition is the most important problem because of the direct impact to growth retardation. Inadequate nutritional intake in toddler particularly in 24-59 months will lead to growth retardation. The aim of this research was to analyze factors affecting toddler’s nutritional status in inner child’s tribe in Pematang Kabau Health Center, Sarolangun Regency, Jambi. This was a quantitative research with cross sectional design. Population of this research were mothers of inner child’s tribe in Pematang Kabau Health Center, Sarolangun Regency in total of 40 people. Sampling technic of this research was using purposive sampling of the total population. Data was analyzed using Rank Spearman. Results of this research showed that most of the toddler’s nutritional status was Good (70%). Mother’s knowledge was classified as good (57,5%), toddlers who were taboo of eggs and livestock were 37,5%. Most toddlers had a big family (92,5%). Most toddlers had adequate energy intake (72,5%) and adequate protein intake (65%). Toddlers who had infectional disease were 60%. There were a significant correlation between toddler’s nutritional status in inner child’s tribe with food taboo (p=0,001), energy intake (p=0,001), protein intake (p=0,001) and infectional disease (p=0,007). Otherwise, mother’s knowledge and number of family members had no significant correlation with toddler’s nutritional status in inner child’s tribe. It is necessery for the health center to monitor toddler’s nutritional status periodically. Especially for inner child’s tribe whose nutritional status is good to keep maintaining them. Mothers could be involved in Integrated Service Posts as Cadres so they could share their knowledge to other mothers.

Abstract

In 2017, 95.26% of 21,098 blood donor candidates was failed to donate their blood because the hemoglobin level did not meet the requirement. Nutritional status is one of the factors that influences hemoglobin level. The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship of protein, iron, vitamin C, phytate, and tannin intake towards the hemoglobin level. The research method used was explanatory research with cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with samples as many as 46 subjects of male blood donors in Blood Donor Unit of Indonesian Red Cross in Semarang City. The data were collected through interview method with structured questionnaire and the data of nutrition intake were collected with semiquantitative FFQ. The normality test used Shapiro-wilk. Data analysis used correlation test and Chi-Square test. The results showed average BMI of the respondents 26.6±4.57 kg/m2 and hemoglobin level of 15.2±1.48 g/dL. The results also showed the average of protein sufficiency of the respondents 44,4±22,25%, 78,4±32,71% of iron, 20,6±6,94% of vitamin C, 1056,7±227,89 mg of phytate intake, 2±1,6 mg of tannin intake. There was a relationship between the total of sufficiency level of protein (r=0,466 p=0,000), iron (r=0,423 p=0,003), vitamin C (r=0,352 p=0,017), and intake of tannin (r=-0.555 p=0,000) towards hemoglobin level. There was no relation between the intake of phytate (r=0,008 p=0,957) towards hemoglobin level. The conclusion, the sufficiency level of protein, iron, vitamin C and the amount of tannin intake related with the hemoglobin level.

Abstract

Background: Lipid profile effects is a risk factor for Coronary Heart Disease. Soursop leaves (Annona muricata L) isa traditional medicine plant containing metabolic compounds that contribute to the improvement of the lipid profile. Objective: To determine the effects of soursop leaves extract on lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDLcholesterol and triglyceride). Methods: An experimental study using randomized pre-posttest with control group design. Sample consisted of 28 maleWistar rats, were divided into four groups. The control group (K) was only given High Fat High Cholesterol (HFHC)diet and treatment groups (P1, P2, P3) were given a HFHC diet plus Annona muricata L extract with doses of 100, 200and 300 mg/kgBB per day for 28 days respectively. Data were analyzed by Wilcoxon test, Kruskal-Wallis and MannWhitney. Results: The mean total cholesterol level significantly decreased in the treatment group P1 (p = 0.028) from 60.7 mg/dl(47.6-75.3) to 45.5 mg/dl (38.4-62.4). Mean HDL cholesterol level significantly increased in the treatment group P2(p=0.043) from 26.0 mg/dl (19.7-35.3) to 27.9 mg/dl (18.8-38.0). The mean levels of LDL cholesterol and triglyceridedecreased but not significantly. Conclusion: The administration of Annona muricata L extract can decrease total cholesterol and increase HDLcholesterol significantly.
