Abstract

The school library is an important component for schools in supporting the teaching and learning process. The main function of the school library is as a manager and provider of collections to meet the information needs of users. This research aims to determine the role of teacher librarians in managing collections in school libraries. Research locations are the libraries of SMPN 1 Rejotangan, MTsN 3 Tulungagung, SMAN 1 Rejotangan and SMKN 1 Rejotangan. This location was chosen because the teacher librarian is the manager of the school library. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data search techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The research results show that the role of teacher librarians is still not effective and efficient in managing collections. Of the four schools, the number of librarian teachers, duties, programs and strategies for managing collections are different. Starting from procurement, processing to maintaining collections in different ways. Procurement of collections by adjusting the information needs of teachers and students from the school budget. Some classification systems do not yet use DDC and some do. Catalog system with cards to online like OPAC. Collection maintenance by covering books, cleaning dust, and carrying out repairs on collections that experience minor damage. Apart from managing the library, teacher librarians also have the task of teaching students in class. Teacher librarians have difficulty managing collections due to a lack of understanding of the material. Considering these problems, teacher librarians need to take part in librarian training regularly.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to know the trend of the selection and duplication of undergraduate theses themes and their influence on the development of library and information science. This research is conducted at the Department of Library Science of Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Based on the research on 236 undergraduate theses, there are 10 main themes i.e., User Study, Library Management, Library Utilization, Reading Interest, Computer Technology, Bibliometrics Statistics, Search and Storage Information, Psychology, Archive, and Scientific Communication. Further, this research finds that the development of library science and information has not led to deep scientific integration and interconnection.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi informasi saat ini mewujudkan beragam hal dan inovasi baru di perpustakaan terutama dalam bidang pengolahan bahan pustaka. Bagian pengolahan memiliki peran penting dalam perpustakaan karena sebelum koleksi dilayankan dan dipinjamkan harus melalui beberapa tahapan di bagian pengolahan. Ruang Baca Fakultas Syari’ah dan Hukum UIN Ar-Raniry merupakan perpustakaan yang memiliki fokus dalam penyediaan berbagai koleksi yang mendukung mahasiswa dan dosen dalam proses belajar mengajar. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu memberi rancangan inovasi pada bagian pengolahan dengan menggunakan sistem pengolahan otomatis bahan pustaka dirancang untuk membantu tugas pustakawan dalam pekerjaan pengolahan bahan pustaka, khususnya input data bibliografi, klasifikasi dan abstrak menggunakan dari komputer yang telah tersambung dengan mesin yang dibekali dengan AI (Artificial Intelligence) dan NLP (Natural Language Processing) sehingga mampu membaca otomatis teks, gambar dan mengidentifikasi buku yang akan diolah.

Abstract

Kemajuan teknologi informasi mendorong kebutuhan masyarakat akan informasi yang semakin beragam untuk menghadapi tantangan ini, perpustakaan harus memberikan layanan yang terbaik. Open access adalah salah satu layanan yang dapat diakses tanpa keterbatasan waktu dan tempat. Oleh karena itu, keterbukaan informasi mengundang riskiko penyalahgunaan yang mesti dicegah dengan keamanan informasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeksripsikan pentingnya keamanan informasi pada layanan open access di perpustakaan perguruan tinggi. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah menggunakan pendekatan deskriftif kualitatif dengan studi Pustaka dengan melakukan analisis terhadap artikel dan buku terkait, selain itu, penelitian ini memakai model Milles Huberman untuk menganalisis data yang terkumpul. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pentingnya keamanan informasi di perpustakaan, agar menghindari penyalahgunaan dan untuk menjamin perlindungan terhadap data yang disimpan dan diakses oleh pemustaka dari segala kemungkinan ancaman yang muncul.

Abstract

Introduction. Library services during the Covid-19 pandemic have decreased even to the point that services are completely closed. This happens because the virus is easily spread through the air, causing limited community activities outside the home. To overcome this problem, the library provides service innovations that can be used during a pandemic, namely drive thru services. The purpose of this study is to describe the existence of libraries in the new normal era so that many libraries adopt drive thru services.Methodology. The method used in this research is a library research method with a qualitative approach. Library research technique is a technique that takes data sources in the form of books as the object of study.Results and discussion. This drive-thru service adopts fast food franchise services. This service became an innovation and alternative service when the COVID-19 pandemic entered Indonesia. To maintain the existence of the library finally, innovate to provide this service. This service is considered effective because of the lack of direct physical contact with other people in addition to reducing the crowding and spread of the covid-19 virus.Conclusion. Currently, the pandemic has begun to recede. But that doesn't detract from drive thru service. In this new normal era, drive thru services should increasingly exist and improve this drive thru service to provide better and better service.

Abstract

This study explores the archival collections of the Muhammadiyah Museum as a medium for transmitting and reflecting the organization’s ideology. The research aims to analyze how Muhammadiyah’s ideological values are constructed and articulated through the visual elements embedded in its museum archives. A qualitative approach was employed, incorporating visual content analysis, ethnographic observation, and in-depth interviews with curators and visitors. The findings reveal that the museum’s archives actively construct ideological narratives of Islamic modernism and nationalism through carefully curated visual frameworks. Representations of Muhammadiyah leaders, educational initiatives, and social movements are displayed with an aesthetic that underscores values such as progress, rationality, and reform. The curatorial practices demonstrate processes of selection and interpretation that mirror the organization’s contemporary ideological orientation in navigating Indonesia’s socio-political landscape. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of museums as ideological agents and highlights the importance of visual literacy in interpreting embedded messages within historical archives. The findings further illustrate how religious organizations utilize visual representation to preserve and transmit ideological identities across generations.

Abstract

This study investigates the growing importance of librarian professionalism in the increasingly complex landscape of digital information services. Although discussions about technical competence have expanded in recent years, comprehensive studies that integrate both technical and ethical dimensions remain limited. Using a systematic literature review approach, this research examines key components of librarian professionalism, including technical skills, work ethics, communication abilities, integrity, transparency, and empathy. The findings reveal that professionalism affects not only the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of information services but also significantly shapes user trust, comfort, and overall service satisfaction. Ethical values and strong interpersonal communication emerge as indispensable elements that enhance service quality, complementing technical proficiency in digital environments. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative analytical framework, which brings together technical and ethical aspects into a unified perspective for understanding librarianship professionalism. The study provides a conceptual foundation for developing institutional policies, competency-based training, and professional work cultures in libraries. Ultimately, it highlights the need for adaptive, credible, and human-centered information services as libraries navigate the challenges of the digital era.

Abstract

Background: Librarians are required to be assertive amid changing times and the dynamics of Generation Z, which is beginning to dominate the workplace. Assertive behavior is a communication skill that can be learned to reduce conflict. Studies on the application of assertive behavior among Generation Z librarians are still limited; therefore, research is needed to fill this gap. Purpose: This study aims to identify the assertive behavior of Generation Z librarians in conflict resolution and negotiation within library settings, using Janette S. Caputo’s theory. The main research question is: How do Generation Z librarians apply various forms of assertive statements in the context of library service interactions?Methods: This study utilizes a descriptive qualitative approach. Informants were determined using purposive sampling based on several criteria, and nine informants were obtained from school libraries (SMPN 29 Bandar Lampung, SMKN Padang Cermin, SD Kreativa, SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Metro), universities (Universitas Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya, Institut Sains Teknologi Nasional, and Politeknik Kesuma Bangsa), and public libraries (Kabupaten Pringsewu and Kabupaten Pesisir Barat). Data collection was carried out through structured interviews.Results: The study reveals that Generation Z librarians exhibit various forms of assertive behavior. They demonstrate Simple Assertion by facilitating effective information retrieval. Empathetic Assertion is shown through adjustments in communication styles. Soft Assertion appears in the form of support, positive feedback, and appreciation toward coworkers. Anger Assertion is expressed professionally. Confrontation Assertion is reflected in polite renegotiation of work agreements. Negative Assertion involves acknowledging mistakes and maintaining healthy communication. Assertive Disengagement is demonstrated by postponing discussions assertively when conditions are unsuitable.Conclusions: Generation Z librarians apply various forms of assertive behavior in conflict resolution and negotiation in libraries.

Abstract

The development of digital services has transformed the pattern of interaction between librarians and library users, shifting from face-to-face communication to technology-based communication. This transformation creates new challenges in maintaining interpersonal closeness and the quality of information services. This study aims to analyze the application of Symbolic Interaction Theory, Social Exchange Theory, and Dramaturgical Theory in understanding the dynamics of librarians’ interpersonal communication in the digital library environment. This research employs a literature review method with a qualitative analytical approach. Data sources were obtained from research findings, journal articles, and relevant scholarly books published between 2018 and 2025. The analysis was conducted through the stages of identification, classification, and synthesis of literature findings, focusing on the application of the main concepts of the three social theories within the context of digital library services. The results indicate that the three social theories provide complementary conceptual frameworks. Symbolic Interaction Theory explains how the meaning of services is constructed through symbols and digital language; Social Exchange Theory highlights the reciprocal balance between librarians and library users in the process of information sharing; while Dramaturgical Theory describes the role strategies of librarians in presenting a professional image in the digital environment. The integration of these three theories strengthens the understanding of the importance of interpersonal communication based on empathy, trust, and professionalism in building effective and humanistic information services in the digital era. This research contributes to the development of a theoretical framework in the study of library communication and provides a conceptual basis for enhancing the interpersonal competencies of digital librarians in the future. Abstrak Perkembangan layanan digital telah mengubah pola interaksi antara pustakawan dan pemustaka, dari komunikasi tatap muka menjadi komunikasi berbasis teknologi. Perubahan ini menimbulkan tantangan baru dalam menjaga kedekatan interpersonal dan kualitas pelayanan informasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan teori interaksi simbolik, teori pertukaran sosial, dan teori dramaturgi dalam memahami dinamika komunikasi interpersonal pustakawan di lingkungan perpustakaan digital. Penelitian menggunakan metode literature review dengan pendekatan kualitatif analitis. Sumber data diperoleh dari hasil penelitian, artikel jurnal, dan buku ilmiah yang relevan pada periode 2018–2025. Analisis dilakukan melalui tahapan identifikasi, klasifikasi, dan sintesis terhadap temuan literatur dengan fokus pada penerapan konsep-konsep utama dari ketiga teori sosial tersebut dalam konteks layanan digital. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketiga teori sosial memberikan kerangka konseptual yang saling melengkapi. Teori interaksi simbolik menjelaskan bagaimana makna layanan dibangun melalui simbol dan bahasa digital; teori pertukaran sosial menyoroti keseimbangan timbal balik antara pustakawan dan pemustaka dalam proses berbagi informasi; sedangkan teori dramaturgi menggambarkan strategi peran pustakawan dalam menampilkan citra profesional di ruang digital. Integrasi ketiga teori ini memperkuat pemahaman tentang pentingnya komunikasi interpersonal berbasis empati, kepercayaan, dan profesionalitas dalam membangun layanan informasi yang efektif dan humanis di era digital. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan kerangka teoretis dalam kajian komunikasi kepustakawanan, serta memberikan dasar konseptual bagi peningkatan kompetensi interpersonal pustakawan digital di masa depan.
