Abstract

Rainfall is a critical element in the hydrological cycle. Therefore, accurate rainfall inputs are essential for reliable hydrological predictions in various water resource analyses. Many areas in the tropics depend on rainfall for multiple needs because rainfall has an essential influence on numerous aspects of human life, especially in water resources planning and management. However, not all areas have rainfall recording stations using manual rain and gauges or automatic rainfall recorders, so rainfall records are rarely complete; this is also the case in Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan Province. This research article presents the results of TRMM satellite rainfall data research in Kapuas Hulu District, with validated rainfall data, 1-day maximum rainfall data, and rainfall amount data. Validation stages are carried out by calibrating, verifying, and correcting rainfall data. As a comparison station (dependent variable) is the BMKG Pangsuma observation station, KPH-06 Nanga Kantuk, KPH-08 Ng. Silat, KPH-09 Jongkong, KPH-13 Tepuai in 1998-2019.The results of the analysis show that the best correlation value on the amount of rainfall data and 1-day maximum rainfall data obtained from Grid 30 TRMM of 0.83 and 0.82 with the observation station is BMKG Pangsuma Station, and then the equation obtained from the analysis results on the grid is used as an equation for correction. The data correction equation for the amount of rainfall is Y = 1.1578 X - 98.5547, and the 1-day maximum rainfall data correction equation is Y = 1.2036 X - 28.4197.

Abstract

The study, titled "Flow Hydrograph Generation for Melawi Sub-Watershed Using the Snyder Synthetic Unit Hydrograph Model," investigates the hydrological response of the Melawi Sub-Watershed in West Kalimantan to rainfall events using the Snyder Synthetic Unit Hydrograph Model (SUHM). This model, instrumental in areas with limited hydrological data, is well-suited for the Melawi Sub-Watershed. The analysis uncovers a peak discharge (Qp) of 13.671 m ³/sec with a time to peak (Tp) of 88.905 hours, highlighting the region"™s susceptibility to prolonged rainfall. The model"™s parameters, such as Ct and Cp, are used to generate accurate flow hydrographs, which are essential for flood management. The results show varying design discharges for different return periods (Q2 to Q100), providing critical data for flood risk mitigation and infrastructure planning. This research underscores the SUHM's effectiveness in flood forecasting and sustainable development, aiding in resilient flood management strategies and informed infrastructure design in the Melawi Sub-Watershed. The findings of this study also pave the way for future research in hydrology and flood management.

Abstract

PT Hansindo Mineral Persada is a granite mining company. Mining activities at PT Hansindo Mineral Persada use blasting and the help of a hydraulic excavator breaker to break up boulders. The crusher setting at PT Hansindo has a size of 50 cm, so rocks above 50 cm must be crushed first to make them smaller. The research aims to gain the capability of equipment production. Thus, it can assist in meeting production and cost requirements. Apart from that, this is also an effort to increase the production of hydraulic excavator breakers. Data collection in the field is carried out by observing cycle times, work constraints, working time, operational costs, the need for fuel, lubricants, etc. Then, the data is calculated on cycle time, effective working time, number of production tools, and operational costs. After that, it is necessary to make improvements during the effective working time of the obstacles that occur or to increase the number of hydraulic excavator breakers. The calculation results show that the production capacity of one hydraulic breaker excavator unit is 21.77 BCM/hour or 4,277.98 BCM/month. The operational cost for one tool is IDR 2,944,133.88/day. The increased production of the two recommended alternatives resulted in an increase of up to 4,468.41 BCM/month by improving the effective working time and 8,583.03 BCM/month by increasing the number of tools. The value of tool availability for MA increased by 0.1%, PA by 0%, UA increased by around 4%, and EU increased by around 4%.

Abstract

The Landak Sub Watershed is part of Indonesia's Kapuas River Basin, covering an area of approximately 7,921 km2 and comprising three administrative regions: Landak Regency, Kubu Raya Regency, and Pontianak City. Like other regions in Indonesia, the frequency of flood events in the Landak Sub Watershed has been increasing each year, becoming a severe problem as it has caused losses for the community. Therefore, a study is needed to provide an overview of the most suitable flood management measures to minimize floods in the Landak Sub Watershed. This article presents the research results to determine the priority scale of flood mitigation measures suitable for implementation in the Landak Sub Watershed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The determination of criteria, sub-criteria, and flood management alternatives is based on the results of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held in Ngabang City on August 30, 2022. The selected flood management alternatives combine both structural and non-structural measures. Once the hierarchy is established, a questionnaire is distributed to determine the appropriate options for flood mitigation in the Landak Sub Watershed. The study results indicate that the priority scale for flood mitigation in the Landak Sub Watershed is by revising regulations and policies. The analysis shows that the priority criterion is Law and Institutions with a weight of 0.376, the priority sub-criterion is Legislation with a weight of 0.213, and the priority alternative is the revision of regulations and policies with a weight of 0.1984. For the correction of rules and procedures to be effectively carried out, all stakeholders related to flood control in the Landak Sub Watershed must be involved.

Abstract

PT. Bumi Khatulistiwa Bauksit (PT. BKB), a bauxite mining company, faces challenges in maintaining its tailing ponds. The lack of a structured maintenance schedule has led to sediment accumulation, which risks pond shallowing and environmental contamination from potential overflow. This study aims to evaluate the condition of the settling ponds and establish an optimal maintenance schedule. A quantitative approach was employed, combining primary field data with secondary data. Analytical steps included calculating design rainfall, rainfall intensity, total discharge, solid percentage, settling velocity, and maintenance/dredging time based on pond volume and sediment accumulation. Results indicate the highest daily total discharge in Pond 1 (17,276.23 m³/day) and the lowest in Pond 5 (5,022.97 m³ /day). Maintenance intervals vary: Pond 1 requires dredging every 1 month and 7 days; Pond 2, every 1 month and 22 days; Pond 3, every 1 year and 5 months and 12 days; Pond 4, every 4 months and 18 days; and Pond 5, every 6 years and 5 months and 12 days. The excavator’s productivity reaches 447.93 m³/hour, with dredging time per pond ranging from 8 to 35 days.
