Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the Salafi doctrine, which emphasizes the importance of returning to the Qur’an and hadith based on the understanding of Salafus Shalih (the pious predecessors). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the article focuses on Salafi religious practices in West Sumatra, analyzing how Salafis interpret and implement the sunnah in a contemporary context. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed by categorizing the information into subtopics to extract deeper meanings. The findings indicate that the kajian sunnah (study of the sunnah) among Salafis in West Sumatra is characterized by exclusivity, doctrinal rigidity, and a textual approach. Moreover, the study reveals that the doctrine of adhering to the understanding and practices of Salafus Shalih serves as the cornerstone of Salafi da’wah strategies. This doctrine positions the Salafus Shalih generation as the ideal model for understanding and connecting with the essence of the Qur’an and hadith. The study concludes that the romanticization of Salafus Shalih functions as a central da’wah strategy for Salafi groups, facilitating the mobilization of their religious understanding and practices within contemporary society.

Abstract

At the height of the Ottoman Empire's glory, there was no need for a usury system, as it was prohibited by Islamic law. This Empire stands on an independent economy in line with Islamic law. Military agitation was everywhere; debt after debt appeared and even forced to borrow by donor countries and persuaded by Germany when World War I was about to erupt. This study aims to examine the shift in the role of Islamic law in the economy during the shaky Ottoman government in 1855-1923. This research is library-based with a qualitative approach; the information gathered comes from reviewing literature or written sources, such as books and previous studies, which are then processed and interpreted descriptively. We found that Banking in the Ottoman Empire was unnecessary because it was also not profitable for the Ottomans at a critical time. On the other hand, donor countries will benefit. Turkey is conditioned to continue to be in debt in various ways, such as rebellions in the Balkans, the Crimean War, and the last is world war I. The Debt Collection Agency (OPDA) has functioned as a collector of surplus natural resources and medium-sized industries in Turkey without the approval of the Government. They consist of foreign bankers with printed money that is no longer controllable and causes inflation, not to mention the circulation of foreign currency. Turkey's stability ended after preventing the establishment of a Jewish state, the owner of the most considerable capital in Europe. This article discusses the potential dangers of foreign banks operating in a country, including risks to the local economy, financial stability, and national sovereignty.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss contemporary problems precisely according to the contents of our article entitled recent issues in social life. Today, the current issues continue to develop following changes in increasingly sophisticated technology and global development. In modern times, there are many contemporary problems in society, such as marriage contracts by telephone, underhanded marriages, family planning and limiting the number of children, marrying pregnant women for adultery, homosexuals and lesbians, monogamy, and polygamy. The data has been verified previously by conducting a literature study, a qualitative approach, and descriptive analysis. From data processing with this method, a finding was obtained that Muslims must be able to think rationally and critically to address such matters and the need to revisit solutions according to Islamic law to solve these problems. Contemporary problems are not far removed from the classic problems faced by the previous Ulama, which have been discussed in the classic books they have written, such as the LGBT issue, issues around marriage such as birth control or family planning, and many other problems that fatwas can answer. Fatwas and fiqh opinions existed in the classical period, which only changed the social dimension and perspective in modern times. Keywords: problems, contemporary, life, society, fiqh

Abstract

The article from this research aims to explain the role of women and foreign women in the Ottoman government, which had positive and negative impacts on the Empire. At first, the role of women was not very prominent in government. However, women behind the scenes produced strong leaders who could increase the age of this Empire and experience a period of glory starting with the reign of Usman I. In Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, the role of foreign women and enslaved people became more prominent. Repeated attempts by women in power at the Ottoman court to take different roles profoundly affected the state's internal structure in the long term, especially in foreign diplomacy. The mothers and wives of the sultans could build entities within the state, and they had supporters from ministries and the army. It is worth noting that "one of the most important factors in halting the progress, and even setting back the Ottoman Empire, was the interference of the sultan's foreign wives and mothers for almost a century in state affairs." Court ladies strongly influenced the sultans, especially in the 17th Century, when the state was sometimes under their rule. The welfare of Muslims was disrupted in areas of Russia, Eastern Europe, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Abstract

This article discusses the use of the concept of hājat (necessity)  in the application of sharia law when there are difficulties in applying the original provisions. The hājat (necessity) makes it possible for people and individuals not to apply the original law when they experience difficulties in applying it. However, the use of hājat must fulfill several conditions, including (1) it should be mu'tabarah, not contradicting the prevailing principles of syara', (2) it should be found in cases that seriously threaten religious interests, life/soul, mind, descent, and property. (3) If the hājat is general for a group of people or the wider community or individuals, then this position of hājat occupies an emergency position and takes place permanently for the community but temporarily for individuals. This study found the fact that some contemporary scholars no longer adhere to the principle of hājat which is mu'tabarah or following the maqāsid sharī'ah with all its requirements but has mixed it with pseudo-ad-dharūrah (emergency). Through this approach, some contemporary cases that were initially considered harām (forbidden), such as forex (Foreign Exchange) are considered lawful because they are needed. In other words, even though it is not a real hājat because forex is ribā nasī'ah, it can be done in an emergency, as is the case with bonds that have fixed interest.

Abstract

This article examines and explores the phenomenon of Sufism among Western academics and women, as well as the factors that influence it. The background to this study is the increased attention to Sufism after the events of September 11, 2001, in which Sufism was considered an alternative to overcome psychological anxiety in modern life. The aim of this study was to analyze the factors influencing the distribution of Sufism among Western academics and women, as well as to understand the role of women in the spread of Sufism. The research method used is a literature study with a descriptive analysis approach. The main finding of the study is that Sufism is considered a tolerant school and can accommodate a variety of cultures, including in the context of Western culture. The role of women in the spread of Sufism is also very important, where Sufism becomes a means to prevent moral decay and seek spiritual tranquility in the midst of spiritual pressure.

Abstract

Islam is a moderate religion that is very close to the dignity of women which is very different from the two religions of its predecessors. In both religions women are considered as a burden in life and very detrimental, women's rights are morally and materially ignored. Like ownership of property, the right to issue testimony, identity is assigned to the husband not to his father. Even as far back as 1956 and perhaps up to now in France and Germany full of women's freedom must obtain the husband's permission to conduct transactions, such as buying and selling, grants from his own property. With library studies and comparative approaches and qualitative methods the author reveals whether Jews and Christians have similarities in their treatment of women in theory and is there a difference between the two religions? Do Islam, Judaism and Christianity in theory give equal treatment to women? Let a Muslim know that there is a gap between the teachings of Islam and the behavior of some Muslims today that are no longer in accordance with Islamic norms. Such behavior does not originate from Islam as a moderate religion. Keywords: Islamic Moderation, In Gender, Comparison, Judaism and Christian.
