Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine Muhammad bin al-Hasan as-Syaibani’s thought on the concept of al-kasb (work) and its relevance in the contemporary economic context, particularly in Islamic economic and banking practices. The research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method using the PRISMA approach to analyze literature related to al-kasb, Islamic work ethics, and their application in modern economic systems. The findings indicate that al-kasb, according to As-Syaibani, is not merely an economic activity but a moral and social obligation that emphasizes lawful work, justice, and social responsibility. In the contemporary era, the principles of al-kasb are reflected in Islamic banking practices through real-sector-based contracts such as mudarabah, musyarakah, murabahah, and ijarah, as well as in strengthening Islamic work ethics and entrepreneurship. Ethical values such as trustworthiness, honesty, and social responsibility serve as essential foundations for economic stability and equitable distribution of wealth. However, challenges remain in its implementation, particularly regarding public literacy and the optimization of productive, Sharia-compliant financing.

Abstract

This study explores and synthesises the economic thought of Imam Al-Ghazali through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) model. A qualitative SLR design was employed, drawing on articles published between 2015 and 2025, collected using the Publish or Perish software. The PRISMA framework guided the data screening and analysis, which is illustrated in a flow diagram. Out of 135 documents initially identified, 30 articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in the review. The results indicate that Al-Ghazali's economic thought is centred on several key themes: justice in economic activities, the intrinsic value of money, ethical consumption and production, and the importance of fair market mechanisms. In addition, Al-Ghazali emphasised the balance between the material and spiritual aspects of economic life and highlighted the state's role in promoting welfare and social justice. These ideas demonstrate enduring relevance for contemporary economic challenges, particularly in encouraging ethical practices and benefit-oriented systems. The findings are expected to provide a conceptual foundation for the development of Islamic economics rooted in moral and spiritual values.

Abstract

In Germany, there is no recognition of Muslims as an official religious sect, in addition to the fact that educational issues are within the jurisdiction of the state. Diversity in education is a loophole for Muslims to organize education in the community, given this diversity. In terms of teaching religious subjects, German states stand independently. This article is based on a literature study that collects documents from books and journals through a qualitative approach to the phenomenon of education obtained in various literatures and interpreted descriptively. The way the Muslim generation in Europe learns their religion is one of the most critical problems faced by Muslims there, both at the individual and community levels. Every religious sect has the constitutional right to teach religion to its adherents. Discussions on this topic began in Germany 40 years ago with the question of the conditions under which Islamic religious education can be provided in public schools, and the discussion continues to this day. Since the state has autonomy in education, we can find different models of religious lessons in each state and other obstacles, such as teaching staff and learning materials; therefore, the right legal formula must be sought to teach religion to the Muslim generation correctly.
