Abstract

This research investigates sixth grade of elementary school students’ perceptions after learning writing descriptive text with Differentiated Instruction (DI). The current research employs survey research with questionnaire as the instrument. There are four key dimensions assessed from the questionnaire: the effectiveness of DI, supports from the teacher, ease of understanding, and students’ learning motivation. The findings reveal that DI significantly improved students' writing by simplifying complex tasks into manageable steps and making the learning process more engaging. Students appreciate the clear guidance and support from their teacher, which increased their confidence and comfort. DI also tailored instruction to individual needs, facilitating better comprehension and enjoyment of writing. The research concludes that DI effectively enhances students’ writing skills and suggests that future research should explore the long-term impacts of DI, integrate diverse assessment tools, and examine the role of teacher training in optimizing DI implementation.

Abstract

In the realm of English language learning, web-based learning (WBL) provides a critical tool for practicing speaking skills which requires synchronous interactions for effective learning. This study explores the efficacy of the "Harati Speaking" website, a web-based platform designed to enhance spoken English skills among Intermediate English learners. The research employs a quantitative descriptive method involving 64 second-year bachelor students from an Indonesian university's English Education Study Program. Data were gathered using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ), which evaluates six categories of user experience: attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, stimulation, and novelty. Results indicate a generally positive user experience, with specific strengths in the website's ability to provide an engaging and efficient learning environment. However, areas such as novelty and certain aspects of attractiveness and dependability received lower, though still satisfactory, ratings, suggesting room for design enhancements. Overall, the "Harati Speaking" website proves to be a valuable tool for practicing the speaking skill in English, contributing positively to the language learning process in a foreign language classroom. This study provides valuable insights into how such platforms can facilitate synchronous interactions essential for effective language learning. For future development of the "Harati Speaking" website, more innovative and engaging features could boost the web novelty, such as by including gamification elements and interactive scenarios. By addressing these areas, future research can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the potential and optimization of web-based learning tools for English learning.

Abstract

This study explored the adaptation of the ADDIE instructional model in designing and developing a website for the speaking practice of EFL students at the university level. The feasibility of the website was measured through the evaluation of independent experts from three aspects of rating: web design, instructional content, and language usage. Six lecturers and 64 EFL students were invited to evaluate the website. Two lecturers have expertise in multimedia and informatics, while the four others are two experts in instructional content of English teaching and two lecturers in English linguistic expertise. The assessments exposed that the web is easy to use by students and very practical in supporting students for learning; the content of learning material in the website has manifested the syllabus of English-speaking skill on the specified level; and the language used by the website is matched with the level of students’ language proficiency. Therefore, this study successfully developed a prototype of a web-based language learning product that helps students practice English speaking at the intermediate level.

Abstract

This study aimed to overview theories about songs to be using as media in classroom. Certainly, it might be difficult to imagine what the world would look like if tunes on the radio or on TV were off, or one could not listen to favourite song when working at home, driving a car, or study. Learning a foreign language is never easy. Children on the other hand haven‘t got a choice. At a very young age they get acquainted with a foreign language The purpose of this paper is to show that if songs are used properly, with well-defined aims, they can be an amazing tool in the language teachers’ hands. However, the results could be mixed effectiveness for the use of music depending on the linguistic level and the type and complexity of the information being recalled. It is important to know the characteristics of the age group we teach. That helps us understand their behaviour and the way their little brains function. We will achieve satisfying results only if we know their abilities and needs well.
