Abstract

Online media not only conveys information, but also actively frames reality according to certain ideological interests, including in reporting the issue of accelerating police reform which has recently become a public spotlight. This study aims to analyze the discourse construction of the issue of accelerating police reform in Kompas.com news through text structure (macrostructure, superstructure, microstructure) and the social context behind it, using Teun A. Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis model. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data in the form of ten Kompas.com news texts published from November 7, 2025 to February 25, 2026, analyzed through the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The results show that Kompas.com constructs police reform as a top-down institutional program through a layered legitimacy pattern: the macrostructure emphasizes formal-procedural legitimacy while eliminating the voices of victims, the superstructure places criticism at the end of the text as a de-escalation strategy, and the microstructure utilizes administrative euphemisms and elite-based authorization. From a social context perspective, a pattern of event substitution was found that dissolves concrete issues into abstract discourse, weakening the accountability pathway and revealing a gap between the media's image of reform and the reality of recurring police issues.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of implementing student-centered learning in teaching speech text writing. The objectives of this study were to describe: (1) the implementation process of the Student-Centered Learning method in teaching speech text writing to eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan; and (2) the obstacles and challenges encountered during the implementation of the Student-Centered Learning method in teaching speech text writing. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The research subjects consisted of one Indonesian language teacher and eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan. The data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The research instruments included observation sheets, interview guidelines, questionnaires, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that: (1) the implementation of the Student-Centered Learning method was successfully carried out through the Discovery Learning syntax, consisting of stimulation, problem identification, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization; and (2) the obstacles and challenges encountered included difficulties in generating and developing ideas, using persuasive language, and uneven writing skills among students due to the presence of the free-rider effect during group work.

Abstract

Journalism instruction in Indonesian Literature study programs has generally emphasized linguistic competence and news-writing technique, while the ecological perspective and dedicated digital learning media remain marginal. This study reports the needs-analysis stage of a Research and Development project following the ADDIE model, which aims to design ecology-based journalism teaching materials assisted by the literary-ecological website Ekosastra.com. Data were collected through a 30-item, four-point Likert questionnaire (Strongly Agree-Agree-Disagree-Strongly Disagree) covering four dimensions: the condition of existing teaching materials, students' ecological interest and awareness, readiness for website-based learning, and demand for supporting features. The questionnaire was administered to 100 students who had completed the journalism course, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed descriptively using mean scores classified into four categories. The results show that existing teaching materials are perceived as low to very low in ecological content and reference variety (mean 1.22-2.22), whereas students' interest, ecological awareness, and readiness to use website-based learning are high to very high (mean 3.04-3.92). Students specifically requested authentic texts, a glossary of terms, tiered writing exercises, clear assessment rubrics, and integration with up-to-date digital sources. These findings confirm a persistent gap between the demand for ecology-based journalism learning and the availability of relevant teaching materials, while also indicating strong student readiness and institutional support for a website-assisted solution. The study concludes that the development of ecology-based journalism teaching materials integrated with Ekosastra.com is feasible and warranted to proceed to the design and development stages.
