Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan menulis teks biografi setelah penerapan model pembelajaran Inside Outside Circle (IOC) serta mengidentifikasi kendala siswa selama pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode kuasi eksperimen desain one-group pretest-posttest. Sampel penelitian adalah 36 siswa kelas X TKJ 1 SMK Negeri 14 Medan yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes menulis teks biografi dan angket skala Likert, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas Shapiro-Wilk, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test, effect size, dan N-Gain. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai rata-rata meningkat dari 55,39 menjadi 80,72, sedangkan ketuntasan belajar meningkat dari 13,89% menjadi 86,11%. Uji Wilcoxon menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan (p < 0,001) dengan effect size besar dan N-Gain sedang. Dengan demikian, IOC efektif meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks biografi melalui interaksi, pertukaran ide, dan scaffolding antarteman.

Abstract

Kemampuan komunikasi merupakan kompetensi penting bagi mahasiswa Pendidikan Matematika sebagai calon guru. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji hubungan antara kemampuan public speaking, kompetensi akademik, dan keterampilan komunikasi mahasiswa Pendidikan Matematika. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain deskriptif eksploratif. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas lima mahasiswa Pendidikan Matematika yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan public speaking mahasiswa berkembang cukup baik, meskipun masih terdapat kendala seperti rasa gugup, kurang percaya diri, dan kesulitan menyampaikan materi secara runtut. Kompetensi akademik berhubungan erat dengan kemampuan komunikasi, terutama dalam menjelaskan konsep matematika secara jelas dan mudah dipahami. Selain itu, keterampilan komunikasi mahasiswa berkembang melalui pengalaman presentasi, kegiatan organisasi, interaksi sosial, dan latihan berbicara secara mandiri. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa public speaking, kompetensi akademik, dan keterampilan komunikasi merupakan aspek yang saling berkaitan dalam membentuk kesiapan mahasiswa sebagai calon guru matematika profesional.

Abstract

The abstract nature of chemical concepts and the limitations of conventional, rigid, one-way slide visualizations underlie this research. These operational issues in the field lead to low information retention, persistent misconceptions, and a decline in students' academic learning outcomes to below 60 percent. The primary focus of this scientific study is to analyze the effectiveness of using interactive digital presentation media on escalating understanding of substantive chemical concepts. This descriptive quantitative research using a survey approach was conducted through a five-level Likert-scale questionnaire. Sampling was conducted via purposive sampling technique, reaching 32 students in the Chemistry and Chemistry Education Study Programs at Medan State University. The actual data analysis procedure was executed in a structured manner using percentage score calculations of respondent responses and qualitative descriptions of open-ended questions. Empirical research findings reveal the positive influence of the use of animations, quizzes, and virtual laboratory portals such as PhET Interactive Simulations in stabilizing learning focus, intrinsic motivation, and facilitating the visualization of atomic bonds. Daily technical obstacles include internet network disruptions and excessive use of visualizations that risk increasing cognitive load. The main conclusion confirms that hybrid multimedia instruction has proven reliable in flexibly boosting students' cognitive resilience. ABSTRAK Sifat abstrak dari konsep-konsep kimia serta keterbatasan visualisasi salindia konvensional yang kaku dan searah melatarbelakangi kegiatan penelitian ini. Masalah operasional lapangan tersebut memicu rendahnya retensi informasi, miskonsepsi yang menetap, serta penurunan tingkat ketuntasan hasil belajar akademik mahasiswa di bawah 60 persen. Fokus utama kajian ilmiah ini adalah menganalisis tingkat efektivitas penggunaan media presentasi digital interaktif terhadap eskalasi pemahaman konsep kimia substantif. Langkah-langkah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pendekatan survei ini dijalankan melalui pengisian kuesioner berskala Likert lima tingkat. Penarikan sampel dilakukan via teknik purposive sampling yang menjangkau sejumlah 32 mahasiswa Program Studi Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia di Universitas Negeri Medan. Prosedur analisis data aktual dieksekusi secara terstruktur memakai perhitungan skor persentase sebaran jawaban responden serta deskripsi kualitatif pertanyaan terbuka. Temuan riset secara empiris menyingkap pengaruh positif penggunaan animasi, kuis, dan portal laboratorium virtual seperti PhET Interactive Simulations dalam menstabilkan fokus belajar, motivasi intrinsik, serta mempermudah visualisasi ikatan atomik. Kendala teknis harian mencakup gangguan jaringan internet serta penggunaan visualisasi berlebih yang berisiko menaikkan cognitive load. Simpulan utama menegaskan bahwa hibridasi instruksional multimedia terbukti andal dalam mendongkrak ketahanan kognitif mahasiswa secara fleksibel.

Abstract

This study examines the rapidly growing use of abbreviations, acronyms, and code-mixing in Indonesian on social media. This phenomenon reflects the linguistic creativity of the younger generation, but also poses challenges to the preservation of good and correct Indonesian. This study aims to describe popular forms of abbreviations, acronyms, and code-mixing, analyze their impact on community language patterns, and provide recommendations regarding the wise use of Indonesian in the digital space. This research method is descriptive qualitative with a literature review of various related studies. The results show that abbreviations, acronyms, and code-mixing are not only forms of language efficiency but also symbols of identity, creativity, and social expression. However, excessive use can potentially reduce awareness of standard language. Therefore, education and collective awareness are needed to maintain the function of Indonesian in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of learning through the utilization of digital technologies in Indonesian educational institutions. By adopting the literature study method, this study analyzes various scholarly sources to understand the dynamics of technology implementation in the pedagogical process. Findings show that digital technologies make a significant contribution in creating more interactive learning, expanding accessibility of information, as well as improving the quality of education. Nevertheless, various constraints are still faced, including infrastructural limitations, educators’ competence in utilizing technology, as well as budget constraints. To optimize the implementation of technology in learning, a comprehensive strategy is needed that includes the provision of adequate infrastructure, the capacity building of educators, as well as the formulation of policies that support the integration of technology in the education system.

Abstract

Globalization in the 21st century has significantly impacted language use in Indonesia, particularly through the dominance of English as the global lingua franca. This phenomenon provides broader access to knowledge and international communication but simultaneously poses serious challenges to the status and function of the Indonesian language. This study employs a qualitative approach based on literature review, using a sociolinguistic framework and critical discourse analysis. The findings reveal the emergence of over 1,100 new loanwords, a high prevalence of code-mixing among younger generations—reaching up to 80%—and a noticeable shift in language attitudes among university students and urban communities who increasingly favor foreign terms. These findings suggest that the influx of foreign languages not only enriches the lexicon but also potentially undermines the role of Indonesian as a symbol of national identity and a medium of academic discourse. Therefore, firm language policies, the development of relevant and adaptive terminology, and the cultivation of collective awareness are essential to ensure the sustainability and strengthening of the Indonesian language as both a unifying language and a language of knowledge in the era of globalization.

Abstract

Amid the strong currents of digital globalization, the Indonesian language faces significant challenges, particularly from the dominance of foreign languages and the phenomenon of code-mixing among Generation Z. Nevertheless, technological advancement also provides opportunities to strengthen the sustainability of the national language. This study aims to examine the signifinance of the Indonesian language as a symbol of national identity and the strategies that can be applied to maintain it in the digital era. Using a literature study method, it was found that the main strategies include education, the positive use of digital media, and government policy support. In conclusion, the active role of all parties, especially Generation Z, is crucial to ensure that the Indonesian language remains sustainable and dignified in the eyes of the world.

Abstract

Technical communication skills are an essential competency for civil engineering students, not only in academic contexts but also in professional practice in the field. This article aims to explore an interdisciplinary approach in developing technical communication skills of civil engineering students by emphasizing the connection between the classroom and the workplace. Through a literature review and critical analysis of various learning models such as project-based learning, cross-disciplinary collaborative approaches, and information technology integration, this study highlights effective strategies that can improve technical report writing, professional presentation, and collaborative communication skills in multidisciplinary teams. The results of the discussion indicate that the application of an interdisciplinary approach can narrow the gap between theory and practice, while strengthening students' readiness to face communication challenges in the complex world of construction. Thus, this article provides conceptual and practical contributions in designing a relevant and applicable technical communication learning model for civil engineering education in the modern era

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of students’ scientific literacy regarding current chemistry issues based on microplastics. The research employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects consisted of 52 students from several education and science study programs, namely Chemistry Education, Biology Education, Physics Education, and Mathematics Education. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The research instrument was a scientific literacy questionnaire based on a Likert scale consisting of 20 statements covering indicators of understanding scientific concepts, explaining phenomena, interpreting scientific data, evaluating scientific information, science-based decision-making, and environmental awareness. The data were analyzed descriptively using percentages. The results showed that the students’ level of scientific literacy regarding microplastic issues was in the high to very high category. The environmental awareness indicator obtained the highest percentage at 92%, while the science-based decision-making indicator obtained the lowest percentage at 82%, although it was still categorized as high. Overall, the findings indicate that students have a good understanding of microplastic issues and are able to relate them to scientific concepts. These findings suggest that microplastic issues can be utilized as a learning context to improve students scientific literacy.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly influenced the field of education, particularly in assisting students with academic assignments. This study aims to describe the role of AI as a digital assistant in completing student assignments and to identify the benefits and challenges of its use in academic activities. The method used in this study is a literature review by examining various scientific sources related to the use of AI in education. The results show that AI can help students search for information, organize writing ideas, improve grammar, and increase the efficiency of completing assignments. However, excessive use of AI may lead to dependency, reduced critical thinking skills, and academic ethical issues such as plagiarism. Therefore, the wise use of AI and proper supervision from higher education institutions are necessary so that this technology can function as a learning support tool without reducing the quality of the learning process. With proper utilization, AI can become a digital assistant that supports the improvement of students’ academic quality in the digital era.
