Abstract

Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of death among women in Indonesia. This health issue is actually preventable through HPV vaccination, which can be administered to 5th-grade elementary school children. Several factors influence parents' decisions not to allow their children to receive the first dose of the HPV vaccine. The aim of this study was to analyze the determinants associated with the first dose of HPV vaccination among elementary school children. This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 281 mothers of 5th-grade elementary school children. Data were collected at elementary schools in Sigli City by distributing questionnaires from December 20–28, 2023. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression at a significance level of α=0.05 and a 95% confidence interval. The results showed that 258 children (91.81%) did not receive the HPV vaccine. Factors associated with the first dose of HPV vaccination among elementary school children were knowledge (OR=6.46; 95% CI=1.87–22.2), attitude (OR=2.74; 95% CI=1.04–7.18), concern (OR=3.31; 95% CI=1.09–10.00), and lack of utilization of information sources (OR=3.30; 95% CI=1.00–10.83). Factors not associated with the first dose of HPV vaccination included perception (OR=1.20; 95% CI=0.50–2.84), school support (OR=1.44; 95% CI=0.54–3.78), cultural beliefs (OR=1.12; 95% CI=0.47–2.63), and non-electronic media sources (OR=1.46; 95% CI=0.46–4.65). The most dominant factor associated with the first dose of HPV vaccination was poor knowledge (AOR=11.95; 95% CI=1.90–72.47).

Abstract

Generation Z today cannot go a day without gadgets. Over time, Generation Alpha is likely to become similarly preoccupied with gadgets, as they have been influenced by technology since birth and view it as an essential tool for both school and other activities. Excessive gadget use negatively impacts the quantity and quality of sleep. This study employed a cross-sectional design to analyze the relationship between gadget addiction, sleep quality, and academic performance among adolescents in the coastal and mountainous areas of Pidie Regency. The sample consisted of 337 students from Kembang Tanjong High School and 159 students from Tangse High School, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test and linear regression. The results showed no significant differences in the average sleep quality and gadget addiction levels between adolescents in coastal and mountainous regions. However, there was a significant difference in the average academic performance between these two groups. Factors associated with sleep quality included age, male gender, mothers’ lower education level, gadget addiction, and anxiety. Meanwhile, factors influencing academic performance were male gender, gadget addiction, social media motives, ease of gadget access, depression, and anxiety. Adolescents are encouraged to reduce gadget usage, as it adversely affects sleep quality and academic performance. They can replace gadget usage with positive activities such as physical exercise, playing sports, socializing with peers, studying together, and other productive activities.

Abstract

The life of families caring for members with leukemia can be disrupted due to the high burden of care, thus risking a decrease in quality of life. This study aims to analyze the relationship between coping strategies and burden of care with the quality of life of families with leukemia at the Banda Aceh City Shelter. The study used a cross-sectional design with a total of 55 respondents taken through a total sampling technique from five shelters. Data collection was carried out through interviews using questionnaires from August 10 to September 10, 2023. Data analysis was carried out bivariately and multivariately using ordinal logistic regression. The results showed that 56.36% of respondents had a poor quality of life. Coping strategies, burden of care, social support, self-efficacy, education, employment, income, gender, and age were related to quality of life, while marital status was not. Respondents with low quality of life used more emotional focused coping strategies (65.85%) than problem focused coping (28.57%) (OR=4.82; p=0.020). In addition, heavy caregiving burden increases the risk of poor quality of life up to 11 times (OR=11; p=0.007). Multivariate analysis showed that the most dominant factor was family income. Therefore, the use of halfway houses is highly recommended to reduce the economic burden of cancer patients' families.

Abstract

Hypertension is a high-risk non-communicable disease and is known as a "silent killer" because it often does not show clear symptoms. Coastal communities in Pidie Jaya Regency face various challenges in accessing health services, including economic, cultural, and geographical limitations, which affect their behavioral patterns in seeking treatment. This study aims to understand the behavioral patterns of coastal communities in accessing health services for hypertension treatment and the factors that influence it. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis based on case studies. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 27 informants, consisting of hypertension sufferers, families, health workers, and village heads in five coastal sub-districts of Pidie Jaya Regency. The majority of people are more familiar with the term "high blood pressure" than "hypertension" and tend to choose traditional medicine over medical treatment. Awareness of routine check-ups is still low, and access to health facilities is influenced by economic factors and transportation limitations. Culture-based health education, increasing access to health services, and improving drug distribution systems are needed to increase awareness and compliance of coastal communities in managing hypertension.
