Abstract

The strengthening of character education through local cultural values has become an essential requirement in shaping competent and morally grounded students. This community service initiative aims to promote the implementation of the Huyula values which encompass mutual cooperation , responsibility, and social awareness in the character development of students at SMK Negeri 1 Limboto in a participatory and sustainable manner. The methodology employed a participatory approach with stages including initial observation, needs analysis, program formulation, coordination with the school, implementation of interactive socialization, as well as evaluation and reflection. Socialization was conducted through presentations, discussions, situational simulations, educational games, and collective reflection, with active student participation in analyzing real-life daily experiences. Data collection instruments consisted of observation questionnaires using a Likert scale, distributed to 125 students, followed by evaluation of 40 students in a representative sample. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the implementation of Huyula values, evidenced by students’ awareness of linking academic achievement with character, their ability to interact across diverse backgrounds, understanding gained through daily experiences, and active participation in collective activities. The systematic and sustainable strengthening methods proved effective in fostering students’ intrinsic motivation to practice Huyula values in school life. This initiative underscores that character education based on local culture not only reinforces theoretical understanding but also cultivates tangible behaviors reflecting togetherness, responsibility, and social care, making it a relevant model for application in other vocational schools.

Abstract

Education is a crucial factor in improving the quality of human resources and regional development. However, not all regions in Indonesia demonstrate optimal educational achievements. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the low level of formal education in Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province, focusing on the role of parents, environmental influences, and children's motivation. A descriptive qualitative research approach was used, conducted in Saritani Village, Wonosari District. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving 26 informants, including village officials, teachers, parents, and adolescents who either pursued or did not pursue higher education. The research findings indicate that low community participation in higher education is influenced by several factors. Internally, low motivation, health issues, and a lack of family responsibility are the primary reasons. Meanwhile, external factors such as poor family economic conditions, a culture of early employment, and a social environment that does not support education exacerbate the situation. Although some parents have made preventive, repressive, and guidance efforts, the final decision rests with the children. The village government and schools have also contributed through socialization and educational assistance, but their impact remains limited. This study recommends continuous synergy among parents, schools, and the village government to create a more inclusive and sustainable educational ecosystem in underdeveloped areas like Boalemo.

Abstract

Science learning in public schools should be designed to accommodate both regular students and students with special education needs. This is also one of the implementations of SDG 4, Sustainable Development, specifically related to quality education and inclusive education. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of cooperative learning integrated with local wisdom values of Huyula in improving science concept mastery among regular students and students with special education needs in public schools. The study employs a pre-experimental design with a one-group, pretest-posttest approach. The study was conducted in five schools involving 323 regular students and 12 students with special education needs. The research results on the effectiveness of cooperative learning integrated with the local wisdom values of Huyula showed a significant increase in science concept mastery. This is indicated by the hypothesis test through the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a value of z = -15.84, through the N-Gain test (high category, average 0.74), and a strong effect size through the rank-biserial correlation value (-1.00). This study concludes that the implementation of science learning integrated with Huyula values and media variety has an influence and is effective in improving the science concept mastery of regular students in the high category and students with special education needs in the medium category. This finding highlights the importance of integrating local wisdom values and media variety in supporting the improvement of science concept mastery through meaningful and inclusive teaching for all students.

Abstract

Differences qualitative and quantitative research to academicians and researchers mainly concentrated on education studies is only able to browse and identify with the fundamental difference merely as example: research that only uses quantitative data but using the qualitative as a benchmark often not considered as a quantitative research Likewise , qualitative research that uses quantitative data is not considered qualitative research. If traced further, actually qualitative and quantitative research very spacious and is a level. Qualitative and quantitative research in the context of methodology includes a researcher's conception of social reality, the researcher's self placement in relation to the reality study and various other reviews. Therefore, in this research article,is stated that the correlation between qualitative and quantitative research in educational research methodology is possible if both are based on the same paradigm. Conversely qualitative and quantitative researchis difficult to reconcile if they depart from different paradigms, which have different epistemological assumptions, and different goodness criteria.

Abstract

This study seeks to explore the significance of Huyula as a form of social capital that contributes to enhancing solidarity, social cohesion, and cultural identity among the residents of Polohungo Village. It also aims to identify the challenges faced in preserving these values amidst social change and modernization. The research employs a qualitative methodology, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews with community leaders and the younger generation, participatory observation in communal work activities, and documentation of social events in the village. The findings reveal that the values of Huyula remain vibrant and serve as a crucial foundation for fostering unity, altruistic mutual assistance, and informal conflict resolution grounded in cultural norms. Indigenous leaders, religious figures, and village women play a pivotal role in upholding and transmitting these values. However, the advent of digital technology, shifts in the lifestyle of the younger generation, and the rise of individualism pose significant threats to the continuity of Huyula's values. Innovations by the younger generation, using social media as a platform for documenting and promoting cooperative activities, present opportunities for a dynamic and adaptive cultural revitalization. Based on these insights, the research suggests the formal integration of Huyula values into village policies, the enhancement of community empowerment programs rooted in local wisdom, and the regular organization of cultural festivals as efforts to sustain the presence and relevance of Huyula values within the framework of sustainable social development

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the existence of the value of Huyula in the character education of students at SMK Negeri 1 Limboto and to examine the factors influencing its actualization within school life. Huyula is a local wisdom value of the Gorontalo community, referring to cooperation, mutual assistance, and social solidarity grounded in a spirit of togetherness and collective responsibility in communal life. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, utilizing interviews, observations, and student perception questionnaires as data collection techniques. The findings indicate that the value of Huyula continues to exist in students’ social practices, manifested through collective work and mutual support; however, it has not yet been internalized as a reflective character consciousness. The actualization of this value is constrained by structural, pedagogical, and cultural factors. This study underscores the importance of systematically and reflectively strengthening character education based on local wisdom, so that the value of Huyula can transform into a sustainable and deeply rooted character disposition.
