Abstract

Acemannan activity as a natural polysaccharide from Aloevera has good biodegradability and biocompatibility and has an effect on cell tissue repair. The study's objective was to ascertain whether giving Hydrogel Acemannan at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% would be beneficial in lowering the quantity of macrophages in diabetic periodontitis mice . 48 white Wistar rats were used as research samples, and they were split into four groups at two different observation intervals (days 3 and 7).One-way ANOVA and posthoc LSD statistical tests were used to assess the data. The number of macrophages in each group decreased on day 7 to 3.50 ± 0.354; 2.79±0.431; 1.54 ± 0.292; 0.54 ± 0.292. The results of the one-way ANOVAX test (p≤0.05) showed that the Hydrogel Acemannan concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% were effective in reducing the number of macrophages in periodontitis mice with diabetes mellitus. The results of the LSD posthoc test showed that Hydrogel Acemannan concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% were substantially more effective than the positive control in reducing the number of macrophages in periodontal mice with diabetes mellitus (p≤0.05).

Abstract

The increasing cases and treatment costs have triggered the search for alternatives, such as Andaliman, which is believed to have antidiabetic and antioxidant activities, induced by Streptozotocin (STZ). Objective: to determine the effectiveness of Andaliman nanoemulsion extract in lowering blood sugar levels, overcoming insulin resistance as measured by HOMA-IR, in white mice induced by Streptozotocin (STZ). The study employed a posttest only controlled group design, using sic groups of mice, each of which had five mice weighing 150–260 grams in STZ induction (65 mg/kg), the positive control group used STZ + Metformin, the treatment group used a dose of Nanoandaliman of 25.50 & 75 mg/KgBB. KGD examination was carried out after 7.14 and 21 days after STZ induction. Results: Based on the lowest KGD measurement on day 21 in the STZ65mg/kgBB + NA50 mg/kgBB treatment group, in the HOMA-IR measurement, the highest value was found in the negative control (STZ 65mg/kgBB) on day 21. This indicates that the decrease in blood glucose levels with STZ65mg/kgBB + NA50 mg/kgBB treatment is better than other treatments on day 21. Conclusion: STZ65mg/kgBB + NA50 mg/kgBB treatment has been proven to be effective in lowering blood sugar levels. It is expected that the results of this study can become an alternative treatment for diabetes in the future

Abstract

The cep-cepan plant (Castanopsis costata) from the Fagaceae family is traditionally used by the Karo community in Medan, North Sumatra, to treat diabetes mellitus, although its efficacy has not yet been scientifically proven. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the antidiabetic activity of cep-cepan leaf extract nanoparticles (Castanopsis costata) in a streptozotocin-induced white rat model. A total of 25 male white rats were divided into five treatment groups: a positive control group, a negative control group, and three experimental groups treated with extract concentrations of 25, 75, and 150 mg/kg body weight, respectively. Plasma glucose levels were measured every 72 hours for 15 days using blood samples taken from the tail. Pancreatic tissue was then examined, and the data were analyzed using one way anova. The findings showed significant antidiabetic activity in all treatment groups, with p < 0.001. The nanoparticle extract of cep-cepan leaves exhibited the highest antidiabetic potential at a dosage of 150 mg/kg, reducing blood glucose levels by 59.39%. These results suggest that the nanoparticle extract of cep-cepan leaves demonstrates antidiabetic activity in the streptozotocin-induced white rat model, and it has the potential to be developed as an alternative treatment for diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Tooth loss reduces quality of life by affecting chewing and speech function and can interfere with social activities. Hot curing acrylic dentures have the disadvantage of high porosity and surface roughness, so they are susceptible to food residues and microorganisms that can lead to the formation of biofilm and denture stomatitis. Red series leaves (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) have chemical content such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and essential oils that have the potential to be antimicrobials. This study aims to determine the potential of red betel leaf ethanol extract in inhibiting microorganisms in biofilms in denture plates made of hot curing acrylic. This study used the liquid dilution method to test the effectiveness of red betel leaf ethanol extract with concentrations of 10%, 25%, 50% and 75% on the growth of Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Candida albicans contaminated on round denture plates made of hot curing acrylic. The results showed that the ethanol extract of red betel leaf significantly reduced the number of bacterial and fungal colonies, with a concentration of 75% showing the highest effectiveness, especially against the bacterium Lactobacillus acidophilus with an average colony count of 45.67 ± 4.04. Red betel leaf ethanol extract contains chemical compounds that are effective as antimicrobials in biofilms in denture plates made of hot curing acrylic. This extract has the potential to be an alternative natural ingredient for denture cleaning.
