Abstract

Batam City as an industrial city with a high urbanization rate is experiencing a rapid population surge, making it the city with the highest migration rate in Indonesia. This phenomenon affects communication patterns. Local communities, who still hold tightly to the Malay language, face challenges from the increasing need for communication in Bahasa Indonesia and foreign languages in the industrial environment. This study aims to analyze the symptoms of Malay language maintenance in Bagan Village and identify patterns of language maintenance in social and cultural contexts. Using a sociolinguistic approach, this research involves questionnaire, interview, recording, and observation techniques, with data analysis based on the percentage of language shift and preservation patterns. The results showed that the effort to preserve Malay language in Batam City is still relatively high, especially in Bagan Village. This effort is reflected in two main aspects, namely the cultural aspect through the involvement of local traditions in daily life, and the political aspect through policies that support the preservation of Malay culture. Language preservation is carried out collectively by the community as part of local identity in the midst of rapid urbanization. The contribution of this research is to provide in-depth insights into the strategy of Malay language preservation in the midst of high urbanization development, as well as showing the role of culture and political policies in maintaining the preservation of the language. This research also contributes to the study of sociolinguistics by examining language dynamics in multicultural urban areas, which has the potential to be adopted in the context of language preservation in other big cities.AbstrakKota Batam sebagai kota industri dengan tingkat urbanisasi tinggi mengalami lonjakan penduduk yang pesat, menjadikannya kota dengan tingkat migrasi tertinggi di Indonesia. Fenomena ini memengaruhi pola komunikasi. Masyarakat lokal, yang masih memegang erat bahasa Melayu, menghadapi tantangan dari meningkatnya kebutuhan komunikasi dalam bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa asing di lingkungan industri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis gejala pemertahanan bahasa Melayu di Kampung Bagan dan mengidentifikasi pola-pola pemertahanan bahasa dalam konteks sosial dan budaya. Menggunakan pendekatan sosiolinguistik, penelitian ini melibatkan teknik kuesioner, wawancara, perekaman, dan pengamatan, dengan analisis data berdasarkan persentase pola pergeseran dan pemertahanan bahasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa upaya pemertahanan bahasa Melayu di Kota Batam masih tergolong tinggi, khususnya di Kampung Bagan. Upaya ini tercermin dalam dua aspek utama, yakni aspek budaya melalui pelibatan tradisi lokal dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, dan aspek politik melalui kebijakan yang mendukung pelestarian budaya Melayu. Pemertahanan bahasa dilakukan secara kolektif oleh masyarakat sebagai bagian dari identitas lokal di tengah pesatnya urbanisasi. Kontribusi penelitian ini, yaitu memberikan wawasan mendalam mengenai strategi pemertahanan bahasa Melayu di tengah perkembangan urbanisasi yang tinggi, serta menunjukkan peran budaya dan kebijakan politik dalam menjaga kelestarian bahasa tersebut. Penelitian ini juga memberikan kontribusi terhadap kajian sosiolinguistik dengan mengkaji dinamika bahasa di wilayah urban yang multikultural, yang memiliki potensi untuk diadopsi dalam konteks pemertahanan bahasa di kota-kota besar lainnya.

Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of semiotic signs in Fiersa Besari's novel Garis Waktu using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory to explore the meaning and symbolism in the narrative. Although previous studies have analyzed this novel in terms of language style and morphology, not many have studied the application of Peirce's semiotic theory in depth, especially in the trichotomy relationship between icons, indexes, and symbols. This study aims to fill this gap by applying a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through listening and note-taking techniques from relevant quotations in the novel, then analyzed using a manual coding method based on Peirce's theory. The main findings show that symbolism such as "stranded on the horizon" and "the fury of inner war" effectively depict emotional conflicts and deep philosophical themes. The conclusion of this study is that semiotic analysis provides a more complex understanding of how writers use signs to convey messages and emotions, and opens up space for further research on symbolism in c ontemporary literary texts.

Abstract

This study aims to elaborate on the implementation of critical thinking values in several textbooks used in Indonesia as an essential aspect of the Pancasila Student Profile. The research approach utilized a qualitative content analysis method to examine elements of critical thinking in four Grade IV Indonesian Language textbooks within the Merdeka Curriculum, published by Erlangga, Yudistira, Bumi Aksara, and Kemendikbudristek. The findings showed that Grade IV Indonesian Language textbooks from these four publishers clearly implemented critical thinking characteristics, each with different emphases. Erlangga focuses on "Obtaining and Processing Information and Ideas," Yudistira emphasizes "Reflecting on Thought and Thought Processes," while Bumi Aksara highlights "Considering and Solving Problems." Lastly, the textbook from Kemendikbudristek also placed more focus on the "Considering and Solving Problems" element. Nevertheless, each textbook adopts a unique approach in fostering students' critical thinking and character development. Conceptually, the implementation of this study’s findings underscores the importance of varied approaches in teaching critical values, while practically encouraging educators and the curriculum to formulate balanced strategies for developing students’ skills in line with the Pancasila Student Profile.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the relationship between employment status and employment to the perceptions of Indonesian teachers about the discourse of the implementation of full day school system. The data in this study was collected online with media questionnaires developed through googleform. The data collected is further processed using regression analysis method with SPSS to see the existence of relationship or relationship between variables. The result of the research shows that there is a relationship between employment status and work period to the perception of Indonesian teachers about the discourse of the implementation of full day school system. Based on the SPSS output results in the summary model table the value of "R" is 0.096 and 0.123 respectively. The results of this research can be used as one of the starting point to conduct a more comprehensive study related to the implementation of full day scholl system in the school system in Indonesia.

Abstract

Penulisan surat yang sesuai dengan EYD V sangat penting, namun berbagai masalah sering muncul, seperti kesalahan dalam penulisan, kurangnya pemahaman mendalam tentang aturan EYD yang baru, dan kebiasaan yang belum sepenuhnya mengacu pada pedoman tersebut. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman pengurus RT 011 Pedurenan tentang EYD V serta keterampilan mereka dalam menyusun surat yang jelas, formal, dan sesuai dengan kaidah bahasa Indonesia yang berlaku. Metode pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan pendekatan seminar dan pendampingan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 83% peserta berhasil mencapai tingkat pemahaman yang sangat baik, menandakan keberhasilan pelatihan. Simpulan pengabdian ini yaitu pelatihan yang dilakukan berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan pengurus RT dalam menulis surat yang sesuai dengan EYD V.

Abstract

Teachers are key in shaping students' character, and it is important for them to prepare themselves and enhance their own character before instilling it in their students. Folklore plays a crucial role in realizing this goal. Therefore, community service activities are conducted with the aim of strengthening teachers' character through an understanding of these values. Seminars and mentoring procedures are implemented as methods for conducting these activities. The results of these activities reveal the support of the community service team, and positive evaluation outcomes have provided significant benefits in strengthening teachers' characters, including their ability to recognize character values, develop creativity in writing folklore stories, and relate folklore to current social issues. In conclusion, these activities have successfully improved the understanding and skills of teachers in using folklore as an effective tool for character development.Guru merupakan kunci utama dalam pembentukan karakter peserta didik. Guru perlu mempersiapkan diri dan meningkatkan karakternya menjadi lebih baik sebelum menanamkan kepada siswa. Dalam hal ini, cerita rakyat memiliki peranan penting dalam merealisasukan hal tersebut. Untuk itu, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk memperkuat karakter guru melalui pemahaman nilai tersebut. Prosedur seminar dan pendampingan dilakukan sebagai metode pelaksanaan kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan ini mengungkapkan adanya dukungan tim pengmas dan hasil evaluasi yang positif memberikan manfaat yang signifikan dalam penguatan karakter guru-guru, termasuk kemampuan mengenali nilai-nilai karakter, mengembangkan kreativitas dalam menulis cerita rakyat, dan mengaitkan cerita rakyat dengan permasalahan sosial aktual. Simpulannya yaitu kegiatan ini telah berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru-guru dalam menggunakan cerita rakyat sebagai alat efektif dalam penguatan karakter.

Abstract

Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan media anagram pada aplikasi wordwall untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kosakata Bahasa Indonesia peserta didik kelas V Sekolah Dasar. Penelitian eksperimen dengan metode kuantitatif yang dilakukan melalui pengumpulan data hasil tes awal dan tes akhir sehingga diambil perbandingan antara hasil belajar sebelum menggunakan media pembelajaran dengan hasil belajar setelah menggunakan media anagram aplikasi wordwall. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian mengenai penggunaan media anagram berbasis aplikasi wordwall pada kemampuan penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Indonesia, diperoleh hasil bahwa ada pengaruhnya pada peningkatan hasil belajar peserta didik kelas V SDN Cipayung 3 Depok. Dengan pemakaian media anagram berbasis aplikasi wordwall peserta didik lebih tertarik dan dapat terlibat secara aktif dalam kegiatan pembelajaran.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students in writing and their difficulty in expressing ideas in written form. This study aimed to investigate the role of executive functions on students' narrative text-writing skills. The research method used a factorial analysis design to determine which executive functions contributed the most to students' narrative writing skills. The participants of this study were 150 high school students aged 9-12 years. Data collection was carried out through several tests. The tests assessed transcription skills, language skills, and executive functions involved in the student's writing process using the CLAN test, Mean Length of T-unit in words (MLTUw), and ERRNI. The data analysis used multiple regression analysis. The study results showed that these executive functions contributed directly and indirectly to students' narrative writing skills. The aspects of constraints, including planning, contributed directly to the long and short aspects of the text. In addition, the aspects of constraints and renewal indirectly affected the length of the text, the level of sentence complexity, and the quality of the story content. This study implies that a teacher must be able to optimize executive functions, namely planning, revising, and reviewing students' abilities through various writing strategies or methods. Developing this executive function is very beneficial for students in improving their writing skills, especially in writing literary texts.

Abstract

Artikulasi dan identitas keislaman menarik untuk dikaji karena di dalamnya memiliki pesan kehidupan yang mendalam. Artikulasi dan identitas keislaman memiliki hubungan yang erat karena artikulasi memperkuat identitas keislaman tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menjelaskan bagaimana artikulasi identitas keislaman yang diwujudkan melalui pilihan kata yang digunakan sebagai interaksi antar tokoh; serta bagaimana implementasi identitas keislaman tereduksi melalui kegiatan nyata dalam kehidupan. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta karya Habiburrahman El Shirazy dan Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah close reading. Analisis dilakukan mencakup tahapan klasifikasi, reduksi, interpretasi, dan penarikan simpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa artikulasi identitas keislaman ditunjukkan dengan pilihan kata yang mengarahkan pada bentuk kesyukuran manusia atas nikmat yang diberikan Allah. Adapun implementasi pada novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta lebih menekankan pada pembangun jiwa yang di dalamnya terkandung ajaran agama yang terbungkus rapi tanpa meninggalkan segi keestetikaannya. Adapun novel Geni Jora mengungkapkan bagaimana sebenarnya kehidupan sosial tokoh dengan berbagai persoalan budaya yang dihadapinya tetapi tetap bertumpu pada nilai-nilai Islam.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of a generative reading strategy for fictional stories, specifically utilizing the Noveltoon digital literature platform, on language knowledge and language creativity. A quasi-experimental method involving 220 university students was employed. Data analysis utilized a t-test and a one-way ANCOVA to examine the intervention's influence on students' language creativity when writing short stories and creating reading tabloids after engaging with fictional stories. The findings indicate that the generative reading strategy, integrated with the Noveltoon digital literature platform technology and online platforms, significantly enhances students' language knowledge and creativity compared to traditional reading methods. The enhancement in students' creativity is evident in their ability to produce original short stories and create engaging reading tabloids following the reading intervention. Specifically, the increase in language creativity was observed across the dimensions of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. This study suggests that integrating a generative reading strategy for fictional stories with technology use can substantially improve the quality of the learning process and the development of students' language creativity.
