Abstract

ABSTRACT Portrait Photography is a representation of similarity in the form of two-dimensional human fi- gure. Portrait photography gives a personal good indication of the owner’s portrait, portrait subjects and photographers. Personality photographic work representing one’s personal character. This study aims to explain the problems of cultural studies in the discourse on photography portrait personality. This research method using literature review of the literature both books, journal articles and research reports, especially portrait photography in cultural studies. The study provides an overview of cul- tural studies on four issues for portrait photography: first, photography as a representation. Portrait is where negotiations between the photographer with the subject of self-representation (model). Se- cond, diaspora photographers. Photographers Indonesian Chinese (Peranakan) as cultural brokers in the post-colonial period. The difference between the Peranakan culture and totok also distinguished in the profession of social groups in studio photography. Third, the identity of the portrait. Family’s photo album as a way structured ourselves, and cultural identities through ritual memory. Fourth, photography as a medium of cultural domination. Photography is a meaning synthesis of subject and object photos. Keywords: cultural studies, portrait photography, personality, discourse  ABSTRAK Fotografi potrait merupakan representasi kemiripan figur manusia dalam bentuk dwimatra. Fotografi potrait memberikan indikasi personal baik pada pemilik potrait, sub- jek potrait maupun fotografer. Personalitas karya fotografi yang mewakili pribadi bahkan karakter seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan permasalahan kajian buda- ya pada fotografi potrait dalam wacana personalitas. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode kajian pustaka dari berbagai literatur baik buku, artikel jurnal dan laporan pene- litian fotografi khususnya potrait dalam kajian budaya. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan gambaran empat permasalahan kajian budaya pada fotografi potrait yaitu pertama, foto- grafi sebagai representasi. Potrait merupakan tempat negosiasi antara fotografer dengan representasi-diri subjek (model). Kedua, diaspora fotografer. Fotografer China Indonesia (peranakan) sebagai broker budaya di masa poskolonial. Perbedaan budaya antara per- anakan dan totok dibedakan juga dalam kelompok sosial profesi dalam studio fotografi. Ketiga, identitas dalam potrait. Album foto keluarga sebagai sebuah cara untuk menstruk- turisasi diri, identitas dan budaya melalui ritual ingatan. Abstract

ABSTRACT The continuous changes of society have brought some impacts to the name of a place. Even though it is only a name, it actually deals with the cultural perspective of the surrounding communities. Currently, toponym becomes important for society as a part of identity formation processes including for the Sundanese. Beside spoken in West Java and Banten, Sundanese language is also spoken by Central Java communities who live in western areas such as Cilacap, Brebes, and Banyumas regencies. In Cilacap and Brebes regencies, Sundanese language is still an effective language for daily communication. However, in Banyumas regency, this language undergo changes. In fact, the Sundanese language in Banyumas is a quite unique since the archaic words such as pineuh  (sleeping) and teoh (below) are still found. This area still keeps its oral tradition such as the story about the history of the place names. The study of the place name is an effort to strengthen an identity as the place name can be understood as a symbol rooted on the history of the place in its local culture. This tradition contributes toward a sustainability of the place name along with their cultural values.Key words: place names, local wisdom, identity   ABSTRAK       Perubahan masyarakat yang terus-menerus berpengaruh pada perubahan penamaaan tempat di suatu daerah.Tidak hanya sekadar nama, dalam penamaan sebuah tempat terkandung pandangan  masyarakat pemiliknya. Saat ini, toponimi menjadi bagian penting dalam kehidupan manusia sebagai bagian dari proses pembentukan identitas. Selain di wilayah Jawa Barat dan Banten, bahasa Sunda digunakan pula oleh sebagian masyarakat Jawa Tengah yang berada di bagian barat, seperti Kabupaten Cilacap, Brebes, dan Banyumas. Di wilayah Kabupaten Cilacap dan Brebes bahasa Sunda sampai sekarang masih digunakan. Namun, di wilayah Kabupaten Banyumas, bahasa Sunda mengalami penyusutan. Padahal, bahasa Sunda di wilayah tersebut cukup menarik, yakni masih ditemukan kata-kata arkais, seperti pineuh ‘tidur’ dan teoh ‘bawah’. Wilayah ini juga masih menyimpan banyak tradisi lisan, di antaranya adalah ihwal cerita terjadinya nama tempat.  Pengkajian nama tempat merupakan sebuah upaya yang strategis dalam rangka penguatan jati diri bangsa karena nama tempat dapat dipahami sebagai tanda yang mengacu pada cerita dan sejarah yang berakar pada budaya lokal. Tradisi ini berkontribusi terhadap kelanggengan nama berikut nilai-nilai budaya di dalamnya.Kata kunci: nama tempat, kearifan lokal, jati diri

Abstract

This article discusses the prospect and future of youth Kroncong group at the Indonesia University of Education or Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia in Bandung. The focus of research subject in this study is one particular Kroncong group namely Orkes Kroncong De Oemar Bakrie. By examining the society’s appreciation towards the group performances and by implementing the triangulation techniques; results show that the group can be seen as a representative of youth Kroncong group in Bandung. Based on research from 2000 until 2017, it can be concluded that University-based Kroncong group is more excelled not only in the music industry, but also in the music development and the music organization. The group is considered as a role model and parameter for other youth Kroncong group in Bandung.

Abstract

This research discussed Jamaican Sound Keroncong (JSK) as a communication media in the global era. The problem of research was that keroncong music tended to be unknown by most young people in Bandung, and it was lost almost a century among them. This research aimed to examine the communication between the structure, agents (SirIyai), and sub-agents (Crispy Crue/the fans), and the appreciation of the keroncong community in Bandung for their performances. Spredlay ethnographic methods were applied. SirIyai was trusted informants and participatory observations, and in-depth interviews were carried out within one year. The research finds that; (1) SirIyai creates a communication media product under the name of JSK as the binding structure between SirIyai as the agent and CCI as the sub-agent; (2) the development of the internet creates dynamics and generates communication space; (3) communication of musical instruments is the basic idea of JSK product creation as communication media; and (4) there is a fundamental change of the old keroncong communication system to that of the youth keroncong in the global era. SirIyai is considered as the role model of the recent keroncong communication and becomes the parameter of creativity of musical mixture of global music era in Bandung.

Abstract

The article aims to describe the process of commodification of the Malangese Mask Wayang Art at Asmorobangun Art Center, Pakisaji Sub-district, Malang, Indonesia. Asmorobangun Art Center is one of the surviving art centers engaged in the efforts to preserve and develop the Malangese mask wayang art. The data used in this qualitative study were collected by means of interview, observation, and examination of relevant documents. The results show that the process of commodification of the Malangese mask wayang art manifests in three practices namely the gebyak senin-legian mask wayang performances, art tourism packaging, and mask production. Commodification has transformed the art into commodities/products that are part of the local tourism industry.

Abstract

Bahasa Sunda tidak hanya digunakan oleh masyarakat Sunda di Provinsi Jawa Barat danBanten, tetapi juga digunakan oleh sebagian orang di sebagian wilayah barat ProvinsiJawa Tengah, lebih tepatnya Kecamatan Dayeuhluhur. Hal ini menarik karena wilayahbarat Provinsi Jawa Tengah merupakan daerah dimana mayoritas masyarakatnyaberbahasa Jawa. Menilik fenomena tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan meneliti mengapaBahasa Sunda bisa bertahan di wilayah yang mayoritas penuturnya tidak hanyaberbicara Bahasa Sunda. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untukmendapatkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keberlangsungan BahasaSunda di Kecamatan Dayeuhluhur dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktoreksternal mencakup letak geografis, historis, sosial-budaya, keluarga, aktivitaskeagamaan, dan pendidikan formal. Faktor internal berkaitan dengan sebagianmasyarakat yang mengidentifikasikan diri mereka sebagai orang Sunda. Jati diri inidikuatkan oleh nama tempat (toponim) di Kecamatan Dayeuhluhur yang pada umumnyamenggunakan Bahasa Sunda.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the Kendang relationship, as a traditional Priangan musical instrument, to the Jaipongan performing arts and dance. Kendang, which has a central function in the Jaipongan dance performance, has received less appreciation in West Java arts’ discourse. The Jaipongan dance art focuses on dance movements, although the song (gending) that accompanies the dance movement depends entirely on the Kendang music playing. This study used qualitative research methods. The data collection technique is done through interviews, observation, and document study. Data were analyzed through complete data collection activities and then adjusted the data and literature review, and in the end, described the research data. The results showed that Kendang, as a musical instrument has a relationship and attachment with the creation and development of the Jaipongan dance art. Kendang and the player (pengendang) have a vital function, in contrast to the stereotype that these instruments are only accompaniment to songs/dances in the performing arts. The Kendang instrument is an important part that regulates the tempo and the course of the Jaipongan dance performance. Pengendang, as artists and musicians, contribute greatly in communicating the performance of the performance both with dancers and the audience. Kendang is a source of inspiration for the creation of Jaipongan dance art. During the process of creating the Jaipongan dance, Gugum Gumbira acts as a creator communicating with other artists, both dancers, and pengendang.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mendiskusikan pola permainan alat musik keroncong dan tenor serta penerapannya  pada lagu “Cente Manis” dan “Sambel Cobek”. Kedua alat musik ini merupakan identitas keroncong gaya Jakarta. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dan data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa asal mula istilah alat musik keroncong berasal dari bunyi alat musik itu sendiri. Istilah tenor merujuk pada istilah suara laki-laki tertinggi. Ditemukan juga teknik permainan alat musik keroncong dan tenor yaitu teknik rasguaedo (prung), strumming, arpeggio dan dengan cara dipetik satu-satu pada setiap senar. Teknik memainkan alat musik keroncong dan tenor tersebut  meliputi pola permainan dobel engkel, dobel balik, format dan gaya lama. Permainan keempat pola tersebut bergantung pada lagu yang akan dibawakan dan kesepakatan para personilnya. The Approach of Orff-Schulwerk for Prospective Music Teachers in Kindergarten Schools. The topic in this article focuses on the application of Orff-schulwerk for university students as prospective teachers in school, including kindergarten. Orff-schulwerk can be seen as an approach to music education. In related to primary education, this approach focuses on the children needs and develops children musicality through necessary activities (elemental) in music and movement. Some questions in this article are: 1) what kind of Orff-schulwerk that can be used by prospective teachers in the learning process at kindergarten? 2) what benefits can be obtained by teacher candidates through the application of the Orff-schulwerk approach? And 3) how do prospective teachers who use this approach can understand their role in learning? The method used in this study is action research. The findings in this research are prospective teachers understand that: 1) Orff-schulwerk can be used in related to exploration – imagination – creation that involving music and movement; 2) this approach is useful for developing student musicality in the learning process in kindergarten; and 3) in this approach, prospective teachers are acted as facilitators who can create an atmosphere of learning that stimulate students’ imagination and creation. This study concludes that the Orff-schulwerk approach should be mastered by prospective teachers who teach in schools, including kindergarten. By having an understanding of this approach, both theoretically and practically, prospective teachers not only enhance their knowledge but also support the national education goals, namely the students’ character building in schools.Keywords:  Orff-Schulwerk; music education; kindergarten teachers

Abstract

Pertumbuhan manusia terus melaju. Begitu pula dengan pergerakannya. Seiring dengan kemajuan peradaban, pergerakan manusia perlahan-lahan dari waktu ke waktu akan lebih banyak terkonsentrasi di perkotaan. Oleh sebab itu, kota sebagai tempat bermukim manusia haruslah diperhatikan  dan dibenahi secara sungguh-sungguh sehingga dapat dinikmati oleh semua pihak (cities for all), sebagaimana amanah Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

Cilancang merupakan salah satu desa di Majalengka yang menyimpan beragam potensi wisata baik alam maupun budaya. Potensi wisata ini ada akan tetapi belum dikembangkan secara optimal. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pendampingan kepada masyarakat sasaran dalam rangka menunjang pembangunan ekowisata berbasis kearifan lokal tersebut. Upaya yang ditempuh berupa pengumpulan data budaya dan alam yang ada di Desa Cilancang. Data budaya (kearifan lokal) yang dimaksud meliputi tradisi lisan, petuah, pengetahuan tradisional, upacara, pertabuan, kesenian, dan alam. Kegiatan diawali dengan metode ceramah dan demonstratif secara daring terkait pemahaman ekowisata dan kearifan lokal. Metode pendampingan dilaksanakan pada saat masyarakat sasaran mengumpulkan data di lapangan. Evaluasi hasil pendampingan dilakukan untuk mengukur tingkat keberhasilan kegiatan ini. Setelah pendampingan selesai tampak adanya perubahan sikap dari masyarakat sasaran. Kegiatan pemupuan data budaya dan alam yang difokuskan pada pengembangan ekowisata merupakan pengalaman baru bagi masyarakat sasaran. Mereka juga antusias dalam menyusun data budaya dan alam.
