Abstract

Ear health is a combination of maintaining the structural and functional integrity of the ear to ensure optimal auditory function. This community service activity aimed to enhance adolescents' understanding of the importance of ear canal and tympanic membrane examinations in preserving ear health. The methods employed in this activity included education and ear examinations using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach. The educational sessions covered topics such as risk factors, proper ear hygiene, and the significance of early detection of ear disorders. Examinations were conducted to assess the condition of the ear canal and tympanic membrane among participants. The results demonstrated an improvement in participants' understanding of ear health maintenance and a reduction in risky behaviors, such as the use of foreign objects in the ear. This community service initiative highlights the importance of ear health preservation through healthy habits and regular examinations to prevent hearing impairment. Therefore, educational and examination activities can help adolescents adopt practices that support auditory health and raise awareness about the significance of preventive measures.:

Abstract

The levels of hydration, oil, and air in the skin are important aspects referring to the air content in cells and play a role in skin moisture so that it looks smooth and elastic. Low levels of hydration, oil, and air in the skin can damage the skin barrier which functions as a physical permeability barrier that is useful for protecting the body from the external environment and low levels of hydration are also indicators of systemic disorders. This activity was carried out in Krendang, a densely populated urban area in Jakarta, with the aim of screening for dry skin by examining the levels of air, oil, and skin hydration. This activity was attended by 131 adult participants. The Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) method was applied, where the levels of air, oil, and skin hydration were measured, and educational materials were provided regarding dry skin and its risk factors. In this activity, the average oil levels in the right and left hands were 26.9% and 27% respectively, the water levels in the right and left hands were 54.25% and 54.69% respectively. Through this activity, participants are expected to increase awareness of the importance of optimal skin hydration status.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels resulting from dysfunction in insulin production or action. This disorder not only affects the metabolic system but also impacts skin health, specifically skin hydration, which reflects the skin's ability to maintain optimal moisture levels. Low skin hydration may increase the risk of infections and irritation. This Community Service initiative aims to enhance the understanding and awareness of the productive age group about the importance of routine blood sugar and skin hydration assessments. The method used in this community service activity follows the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach, incorporating education, routine screening, and program effectiveness evaluation. This activity shows that routine check-ups and education play a role in early detection of health risks in the productive age group.

Abstract

Clean water is a fundamental necessity for public health, as water contamination can lead to various health problems, such as gastrointestinal infections, skin diseases, and other health issues. Screening for water contamination by Escherichia coli bacteria and Corynebacterium spp. is essential to ensure water quality remains safe. This community service activity was conducted in the Duri Kosambi area, focusing on education and water quality testing. The program included planning educational sessions on the risks of water contamination, implementing screenings using colony-forming unit (CFU) parameters to detect Escherichia coli and Corynebacterium spp., and evaluating results to provide preventive recommendations. The findings revealed variations in contamination levels across locations, with some meeting cleanliness standards, while others, such as B04, showed extreme contamination. This activity highlights the importance of community education, regular water quality monitoring, and water treatment to prevent health risks. Collaboration among communities, governments, and health organizations is crucial to maintaining sustainable access to high-quality clean water.

Abstract

Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood and serve as a source of energy. When levels rise beyond normal limits, triglycerides can become a risk factor for various health disorders. Hypertriglyceridemia requires prevention and early detection as essential steps in reducing the risk of metabolic disorders. This community service program utilized the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach to educate adults in the Krendang area on the importance of triglyceride screening and adopting a healthy lifestyle. The health education and routine screenings provided successfully increased public awareness of the risks associated with high triglyceride levels and encouraged healthier lifestyle changes. Program results showed that the community became more proactive in monitoring triglyceride levels and adopting healthy behaviors such as balanced diets and regular physical activity. Triglyceride screening and health education play a vital role in preventing metabolic disorders caused by hypertriglyceridemia, supporting preventive efforts to improve public health

Abstract

Healthy and balanced nutrition plays an important role in supporting students' physical, mental, and academic health, especially during growth. This community service activity aims to increase students' awareness of the importance of a healthy and balanced diet to support the learning process. This activity is carried out by involving nutrition education and nutritional status checks, such as body mass index (BMI), through a school-based approach at SMA St. Yoseph, East Jakarta. Students who have a healthy and balanced nutritional intake tend to have higher learning performance and concentration. Conversely, students with poor nutritional intake are more susceptible to infectious diseases and have lower attendance rates at school. Education provided interactively can increase students' awareness and understanding of the importance of a healthy and balanced nutritional intake. This is expected to be the first step to prevent nutritional disorders and improve the quality of students' health and academics in the future.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by elevated blood sugar levels as a result of impaired insulin metabolism. Uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus can result in significant complications. The purpose of the community service activities is to increase the community's knowledge, awareness, and ability to prevent, detect, and manage diabetes mellitus. This activity requires collaboration between the local community, the community service team, and medical personnel. Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a global health challenge, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Early identification of NCDs in the productive age group is very important considering the contribution of the productive age group to the national workforce and its impact on the health of future generations. This community service activity aims to increase awareness and participation in school-based non-communicable disease screening programs, especially at St. Yoseph High School, East Jakarta. The implementation of screening activities includes anthropometric examinations, blood pressure, blood sugar, and short interviews. Students with unhealthy lifestyles, such as lack of physical activity and unbalanced diets, are at high risk of developing non-communicable diseases. This activity encourages public awareness of the importance of maintaining health to prevent non-communicable diseases. This can reduce the global health burden and the economic burden for advanced disease care. Thus, this activity can improve the quality of life of the productive age population in the future.

Abstract

Nutritional intake is essential for human survival, health, and cognitive development at every stage of life. South Asia is home to adolescents who are significantly affected by stunting, waste, and overweight, with respective rates of 13.0%, 10.8%, and 10.8%. This service activity is intended to compile a nutritional status map of the students attending SDN Ciherang 01. The design of this activity was conducted utilizing the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodology. 125 students participated in this activity, during which anthropometric assessments were conducted to determine the nutritional status of the students: body weight, height, and body mass index were measured. As per the findings of this service, 9.6% of students exhibited overweight status, 12.8% demonstrated obesity, and 18.4% reported being underweight. Immediate action is required to avert the adverse effects that identified nutritional issues may have on the growth and development of students.
