Abstract

Le’leng Tope sarong weavers in Tanah Toa Village, Kajang District, Bulukumba Regency, still predominantly use traditional looms that do not meet ergonomic principles. These working conditions require non-ergonomic postures, repetitive movements, and prolonged working durations, thereby increasing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of ergonomic loom redesign in reducing MSD complaints among Le’leng Tope sarong weavers. This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design involving 30 weavers, consisting of a control group (n = 15) using conventional looms and an intervention group (n = 15) using ergonomically redesigned looms. The intervention was conducted over a 16-day. MSD complaints were assessed using the validated and reliable Nordic Body Map questionnaire. The results showed that the mean MSD complaint score in the intervention group decreased from 2.9 ± 0.5 at baseline to 1.8 ± 0.4 on day 16, whereas the control group showed an increase from 1.8 ± 0.6 to 3.2 ± 0.8. Differences in MSD complaints between the intervention and control groups were significant from day 3 through day 16 (Z = −5.012; p < 0.001). In addition, a significant reduction in MSD complaints was observed in the intervention group before and after the use of the redesigned loom (Z = −4.645; p < 0.001). Ergonomic redesign of the loom is effective in reducing MSD complaints among Le’leng Tope sarong weavers.

Abstract

The implementation of Primary Healthcare Integration aimed to address service fragmentation and improve the quality of health services in Indonesia. This study evaluated outpatient satisfaction with the integrated system compared to a conventional service model in Gowa Regency. A quantitative comparative research design was employed, involving 100 respondents from a health center implementing the integration and 97 respondents from a health center using the conventional model. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring five dimensions of service quality: reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles. Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test revealed a significant difference in satisfaction levels between the two groups (p < 0.001). The integrated system group showed a substantially higher mean rank of 144.08 compared to 52.53 in the conventional group. High satisfaction levels were observed across all dimensions in the integrated system, particularly in the empathy and tangible aspects. It was concluded that the lifecycle-based cluster approach within the integrated system significantly enhanced patient experience and satisfaction. These findings suggested that the transformation of primary health services effectively met community expectations and provided a more structured healthcare delivery model.

Abstract

Tuberculosis remains a public health problem in developing countries due to the high disease burden, delayed diagnosis, unequal access to services, drug resistance, social stigma, and weak program sustainability. Although various TB control policies and interventions are in place, achievements in prevention, case detection, and treatment have not fully met program targets. This study aims to analyze implementation gaps in the tuberculosis service chain in developing countries, particularly regarding prevention management, case detection, and treatment. The study employs a Systematic Literature Review method using a critical narrative synthesis approach. Articles were searched via Google Scholar, PubMed, NCBI, Elsevier, and Sinta using the keywords “Global Tuberculosis Cases,” “Tuberculosis Case Detection,” “Tuberculosis Control,” and “Tuberculosis Prevention.” Article selection was conducted in accordance with PRISMA. Of the 3,607,463 initial articles, 2,523 were screened based on title and abstract, 1,505 were assessed for full-text eligibility, and 29 met the criteria for analysis. Research findings indicate that TB prevention is still hampered by uneven intervention coverage, poor TB-HIV integration, inconsistent preventive behaviors, and environmental factors. Case detection continues to face obstacles such as delayed diagnosis, low continuity from screening to diagnostic testing, and weak reporting. TB management is still burdened by treatment discontinuation, MDR/XDR-TB, catastrophic costs, stigma, and suboptimal monitoring. These findings underscore that TB control in developing countries requires integrated management that links prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, patient support, and surveillance into a single, continuous service chain.

Abstract

Background: Work-related visual strain remains a significant occupational health problem, particularly among workers performing visually demanding tasks. Karawo craftsmen are at increased risk due to prolonged visual focus, suboptimal lighting, and close viewing distances, yet evidence on key contributing factors in this group remains limited. This study aims to analyze the relationship between several visual risk factors, including age, eye-to-object distance, length of service, working hours, lighting, work posture, and medical history, and asthenopia complaints among karawo craftsmen. Methods: The results showed significant associations between age (p = 0.001), eye-to-object distance (p = 0.007), lighting (p = 0.002), and medical history (p = 0.001) and asthenopia among karawo craftsmen. Meanwhile, length of service (p = 0.072), working hours (p = 1.000), and work posture (p = 1.000) were not associated with asthenopia. Results: The results showed significant associations between age (p = 0.001), eye-to-object distance (p = 0.007), lighting (p = 0.002), and medical history (p = 0.001) and asthenopia among karawo craftsmen. Meanwhile, length of service (p = 0.072), working hours (p = 1.000), and work posture (p = 1.000) were not associated with asthenopia. Conclusion: The study found that age, eye-to-object distance, lighting, and medical history were significantly associated with asthenopia complaints among karawo craftsmen. It is recommended that karawo craft entrepreneurs collaborate with local health centers or health services so that elderly craftsmen or those with a history of vision problems can receive regular eye examinations.

Abstract

Psychosocial risks are increasingly recognized as important non-physical occupational hazards, yet evidence on their simultaneous relationship with mental workload and work stress among teachers remains limited; this study addresses that gap in junior high schools in Makassar. This study aimed to determine the relationship between psychosocial risk, mental workload, and work stress among teachers. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among 123 teachers selected through census sampling at SMPN 23 Makassar and SMPN 19 Makassar. Psychosocial risk was assessed using the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ), mental workload using the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX), and work stress using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21). Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and Spearman’s rank correlation test. Psychosocial risk was significantly associated with mental workload (p=0.016; r=0.218), indicating a weak positive correlation, and with work stress (p<0.001; r=0.546), indicating a moderate positive correlation. Higher psychosocial risk was therefore associated with greater mental workload and work stress. These findings support the need for school-based occupational health interventions focusing on balanced workload distribution, stronger social support, clearer role organization, and policies that promote teachers’ mental health and safer working conditions.
