Abstract

This study integrates the Taguchi method and 3D digital metrology to improve dimensional accuracy in the Polylactic Acid (PLA)-based Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) process. The research focuses on the fabrication of vibration-damping roller components in a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system that demands high geometric precision. A Taguchi L9 experimental design was used to analyze the effects of layer height, extrusion temperature, and filling density on the volume deviation of the printed product. The evaluation was conducted using 3D scanning and analyzed using the Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The optimal parameter combination was obtained at a layer height of 0.25 mm and an extrusion temperature of 220 °C, resulting in the minimum volume deviation and the highest process stability. The ANOVA results identified layer height as the most dominant factor, followed by extrusion temperature, while filling density had a relatively small effect. Validation tests showed good agreement between the predictions and the experimental results. These findings confirm the effectiveness of integrating the Taguchi method with digital metrology in supporting the development of PLA-based precision additive manufacturing for sustainable automotive component applications. This study integrates the Taguchi method and 3D digital metrology to improve dimensional accuracy in the Polylactic Acid (PLA)-based Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) process. Abstract

Accurate forecasting of rice output is essential for improving regional food security planning, particularly in East Java Province, which serves as a major national rice granary. This study develops a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model to predict rice production using monthly data on production and harvested area from 2018 to 2024. The methodology includes data preprocessing, normalization, sequence construction with a sliding window, training of a multivariate LSTM model, and performance evaluation using mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). Results show that the LSTM model achieves superior predictive accuracy, with an MAE of 95,030.16, RMSE of 120,229.01, and MAPE of 16.64%, significantly outperforming baseline Moving Average and Linear Regression models. While the model effectively captures seasonal production trends, some inaccuracies remain during periods of anomalous production values. These findings suggest that the LSTM model is effective for projecting rice production and may provide a foundation for early warning systems and regional food distribution strategies. Further improvements could be realized by integrating climate variables or adopting a hybrid model architecture to enhance predictive precision.

Abstract

The ever-growing demand for energy has driven many parties to seek more sustainable alternative fuels, and biodiesel from palm oil is a promising candidate. However, the biodiesel production process still faces several significant challenges, particularly regarding reaction effectiveness and transesterification stability. These two issues are the primary focus of this research. This study investigated the effects of circulation operating time and circulation flow rate in a continuous circulation reactor on biodiesel characteristics. Biodiesel synthesis was performed by varying the circulation operating time (60, 80, and 100 min) and the circulation flow rate (100, 300, and 500 LPM). Here, the circulation operating time refers to the duration of each experimental run during which the reaction mixture was continuously recirculated through the reactor. It represents the reactor operating duration rather than the hydraulic residence time (HRT). The resulting biodiesel was then tested for viscosity, density, flash point, calorific value, and yield. The test results showed that the viscosity of biodiesel ranged from 4.625 to 7.098 cSt, while the density was between 0.850 to 0.871 g/cm³. The calorific value of biodiesel ranged from 9915.56 to 10862.22 cal/gram, while the yield obtained was between 63.3% and 84.2%. The highest biodiesel yield (84.2%) was obtained at an operating time of 80 min and a circulation flow rate of 100 LPM. Extending the operating time to 100 min did not further increase the biodiesel yield. The highest calorific value, 10862.22 cal/gram, was achieved at an operating time of 60 minutes with a flow rate of 300 LPM. Overall, the continuous circulation reactor has good potential to increase the effectiveness of biodiesel synthesis from palm oil. Overall, the continuous circulation reactor demonstrated good potential for biodiesel production from palm oil. Among the investigated operating conditions, the highest biodiesel yield was obtained at an operating time of 80 min and a circulation flow rate of 100 LPM.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to design and develop an advanced monitoring system for solar cells, incorporating solar tracking technology and equipped with an energy storage protection system. In Indonesia, the substantial potential of solar energy remains underutilized, despite the country's advantageous equatorial location, which provides a solar radiation intensity averaging 4.5 kWh/m² per day. The proposed system in this study seeks to maximize solar energy capture by employing a tracking mechanism that aligns the solar cells with the direction of sunlight throughout the day. Additionally, the system is designed with an integrated protection feature to prevent battery overuse, thereby extending the battery's lifespan and ensuring efficient energy storage. The research utilizes an Arduino Uno microcontroller, Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensors, and an INA219 sensor module as the primary components for accurate measurement and real-time monitoring. The system's effectiveness is evaluated based on its ability to optimize solar energy reception and maintain the longevity and efficiency of the energy storage system. Experimental results demonstrate that the developed system significantly improves the efficiency of solar energy capture by the solar cells and provides robust protection for the energy storage mechanism. This study contributes to the field of renewable energy by offering a practical solution for enhancing solar energy utilization in regions with high solar irradiance, thus promoting sustainable energy practices and reducing dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of RLC loading on the power stability and power quality in Wind Power Plant (PLTB) systems. The RLC is applied to stabilize the power generated by the PLTB system, which tends to fluctuate due to wind speed variability. The testing was conducted by measuring the output power of the PLTB system loaded with various RLC configurations. The results show that RLC loading can enhance the apparent power stability and efficiency of the PLTB system. The resistive load (R) yielded the best performance, improving the power factor to 0.95 and maintaining relatively stable output voltage. Meanwhile, the LC loads exhibited lower efficiency with a reduced power factor, but still played a role in balancing reactive power. The reduction in reactive power for inductive and capacitive loads indicates that RLC loading can help reduce power waste and improve power quality. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of more efficient and stable PLTB systems and more reliable renewable energy-based power plants, particularly in managing power stability in the face of fluctuations caused by wind variability.
