Abstract

The low level of students’ science learning competencies at grade VII in Junior High School 16 Padang is caused by several factors, one of them is the learning process still used teacher-centered, so the students tend to inactive in the learning process. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct an innovative learning process in order to improve students’ competencies, knowledge, attitudes and skill. One of the method that can be used by the teacher is by implementing the Discovery Learning Model preceded by making concept map homework. Making concept map homework is expected can improve students’ learning activities in science. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning model  preceded by making concept map homework through students’ learning competencies in science (knowledge, attitudes and skill) at grade VII in Junior High School 16 Padang.  Based on the hypothesis, it is known that the knowledge competency tcount  >  ttable (5,96 > 1,67), the attitude competency tcount > ttable (6,36 > 1,67) and the skill competency tcount  >  ttable (1,69 > 1,67). The result of the study show that the hypothesis is accepted. Thus it can be concluded that the implementation of the Discovery Learning model preceded by the making concept maps homework can improve students’ science learning competences (knowledge, attitudes and skill) at grade VII in Junior High School 16 Padang.

Abstract

Education is a conscious and planned effort to develop the potential of students through learning activities. The achievement of learning activities can be seen from the learning outcomes obtained by students. This learning outcome is related to the competence of students. There are several factors that influence learning outcomes, one of which is self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is needed to see students' confidence in learning activities such as biology. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and the biology learning competence of students. The type of research is descriptive with the type of correlation. The population of this research is students at Senior High School Pertiwi 2 Padang, totaling 70 people with a sampling technique that is saturation sampling. The data of this study are self-efficacy obtained through questionnaires and data on the biology learning competence of students obtained from the odd semester final exam. Data analysis in this study was carried out by statistical test, namely Pearson Product Moment. The results of the statistical test showed that there was a relationship between self-efficacy and the biology learning competence of students. The correlation coefficient values obtained indicate a low relationship between self-efficacy and the biology learning competence of.

Abstract

This study is based on the problems that exist in SMAN 1 Pariaman, namely: textbooks that are used have not involved students playing an active role in learning, the learning model that is applied is still monotonous, student notebooks are incomplete and textbooks used in schools are not yet available example or images according to the demands of basic competencies to clarify the material description. Efforts can be made is the application of biological modules with a scientific approach equipped with a glossary in Discovery Learning models on the competencies of students in Class X of SMAN 1 Pariaman. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of biological modules with a scientific approach equipped with a glossary in Discovery Learning models on the competencies of students in Class X of SMAN 1 Pariaman. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a randomized posttest control group design. The study population was tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Pariaman 2018/2019 academic year consisting of seven classes. The research sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique, the results of which were selected Class X MIPA 2 as the experimental class and Class X MIPA 3 as the control class. The results of data analysis found that the knowledge competencies data was normal and not homogeneous, competencies data on attitudes skill are homogeneous and normal. Hypothesis test results are known that knowledge competencies (7,06>1,67), attitude competencies (0,76<1,67), and skill competencies (0,93<1,67), so it can be concluded that the biological module with a scientific approach is equipped a glossary in Discovery Learning  models has a positive influence on students' knowledge competencies but does not have a positive influence on the competencies of students' attitudes and skills at SMAN 1 Pariaman.

Abstract

Implementation of the 2013 curriculum is able to create students who have high-level thinking skills. One way to overcome is to develop an instrument for higher-order thinking skills. This study aims to produce an instrument for assessing higher order thinking skills about the immune system for class XI SMA/ MA that is logically valid, empirical, practical, reliable, moderate difficulty level, discriminatory power and good option quality. This study uses a 4-D models development model. The subjects of this study were two biology lecturers at UNP and one teacher at SMAN 2 Solok City, as well as 32 class XI students. Data collection instruments is questionnaire. This data was analyzed using the ANATES 4.09 application. Based on the results of data analysis, the average value of logical validity was 86.2% with a valid category, an average practicality value of 91.66% with a very practical category, moderate difficulty level, good discriminating power, 52% option quality and reliability with percentage 0.83. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the instrument for assessing high-level thinking skills about immune system material is logically and empirically valid, practical, reliable, moderate difficulty, discriminatory power and good quality of options.

Abstract

The low learning competencies of students is caused by several problems encountered during the teaching and learning process, including the problems that the first textbook used has not involved students actively playing a role in the learning process, learning is still monotonous and the student notebook is incomplete. One of the efforts that is done to increase students’ learning competencies is to apply a biological module with a scientific approach equipped with a glossary in discovery learning models. This research used a Randomized Control Group Posttest Only Design. The population is all student of class 1 SMAN 1 Pariaman. Sampel was taken by using purposive sampling  technique. The control class uses textbooks with learning models Discovery learning and experimental classes use biological modules with discovery learning models. Instrument The research instrument used was in the form of a learning competency test, an assessment of attitudes and skills in the form of an observation sheet. The t-test results revealed that knowledge competencies t count > t table (7.06> 1.7), t test results 'competency skills t count < t table ( 0,925< 1.7), and t test results' competency attitude t count < t table (0,76< 1.7). This shows that the hypothesis is accepted in the aspect of knowledge that is not followed by aspects of skills and attitudes. So, it can be concluded that the biological module with a scientific approach equipped with a glossary in the discovery learning model that has significance for learning competencies in the aspects of student knowledgeThe low learning competencies of students is caused by several problems encountered during the teaching and learning process, including the problems that the first textbook used has not involved students actively playing a role in the learning process, learning is still monotonous and the student notebook is incomplete. Abstract

This study aims to analysis and reconstruct student practical worksheets that do not comply with standards. The standard used is the Vee diagram component according to Novak and Gowin (1984). The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis with stages analysis and try it. The sample used was 4 LKP samples from several textbooks used by various Senior High Schools in the city of Padang. The results of the analysis show that the LKP used still has weaknesses, especially in the protist material. The percentage of Vee diagram components that are still lacking is the theory / principle / concept component of 37.5%. Therefore, it is still necessary to develop and perfect practicum worksheets for students to gain concrete knowledge.
