Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze mathematical problem-solving abilities based on Polya's steps and the causes of students' errors in solving mathematical problems. The problem-solving stage consists of 4 stages, namely the stage of understanding the problem, planning a solution, carrying out a solution plan, and looking back. This study used 6 subjects from 25 eighth grade students of SMP Terpadu Turen. Data collection is done by tests and interviews. Data validity test is done by triangulation technique. The results of this study were (1) at the stage of understanding many students, they did not experience difficulties because students were able to understand the problem, (2) at the planning stage there were some students who did not write the completion plan but understood the way they would do to solve the problem but they were not used to write down the plan, (3) at the stage of carrying out the plan there were some students who have difficulty because they are less thorough so that they are not aware of the mistakes made. This is because students lack concentration in solving problems, (4) at the stage of looking back there are students who have not reached this stage because they have not completed the previous stage.

Abstract

This study analyzed mathematical problem-solving ability reviewed from the Honey and Mumford learning style using an Interactive E-Worksheet on Flat-Sided Space Structure material. The learning style used in this study is the Honey and Mumford learning style, which consists of four types: Reflector, pragmatist, theorist, and activist. This descriptive study employs a qualitative approach, incorporating both interview-based and experiment-based research methods. To determine students' learning styles, the researcher provided a questionnaire classified by Honey and Mumford. The subjects of this study were 30 students of class VII A of SMP Negeri 26 Malang. Based on the study results, it is known that subjects with a reflector learning style are less able to understand the steps to solve problem number 1. The subjects of the pragmatic learning style are less able to understand the steps to solve problem number 1 and do not work on problem number 2. The subjects of the theoretical learning style can understand the problem of solving problem number 1, but they still make mistakes, and they do not work on problem number 2. In contrast, the subjects of the activist learning style are less able to understand the steps to solve problem number 1. Thus, research is needed to determine the problem-solving ability of students across different topics and learning media, taking into account their learning styles.

Abstract

A common problem in mathematics learning is teachers' delays in providing feedback to students, thus slowing down the process of conceptual understanding. The Fast Feedback method allows teachers to respond quickly to students' answers during learning activities. This study aims to improve students' mathematical problem-solving skills through the Fast Feedback method with an answer grouping model. This study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach implemented in three cycles with the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 42 students of SMP Harmoni School Terpadu Teluk Bintuni Regency, studying the Pythagoras Theorem. Data was collected through task cards, observation sheets, and documentation. The results showed an increase in students' problem-solving skills in each cycle. The number of students answering correctly increased from 31 students in cycle I to 38 students in cycle II, and 39 students in cycle III. Thus, the application of the Fast Feedback method with an answer grouping model has been proven to improve students' mathematical problem-solving skills. The Fast Feedback method using the answer grouping model is expected to be used in in-depth mathematics learning and have an impact on efforts to improve student learning outcomes
