Abstract

Blood sugar testing is essential for diabetes management and should be fast, accurate, and affordable. This study aims to determine the difference in blood sugar levels between immediate and delayed (1-hour) serum examinations using vacuum gel separator tubes at Prof. Dr. H. M. Anwar Makkatutu Bantaeng Hospital. An observational laboratory research with a comparative quantitative design was conducted on 23 purposively selected patients undergoing routine check-ups, without a history of diabetes mellitus. Blood samples were analyzed immediately and after a 1-hour delay at room temperature. Results showed that in immediate examinations, blood sugar levels ranged from 79 to 161 mg/dL, with a mean of 109.26 mg/dL. In delayed examinations, levels ranged from 81 to 164 mg/dL, with a mean of 111.74 mg/dL. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). The findings suggest that delaying blood sugar testing by 1 hour can lead to measurable changes in serum glucose levels, emphasizing the importance of timely sample processing in clinical settings.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effect of applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Learning Model on students' critical thinking abilities and learning activities in studying salt hydrolysis material. The research method used was a quasi-experiment using two groups: an experimental group that applied PBL and a control group that used conventional learning methods. The research sample consisted of class XI students at a high school in an urban area. Data was collected through critical thinking ability tests before and after treatment, as well as observations of students' learning activities during the learning process. The results of data analysis show that there is a significant increase in the critical thinking skills and learning activities of students who take part in learning using the PBL model compared to the control group. Students in the PBL group showed a higher level of involvement in group discussions, problem solving, and searching for additional information related to salt hydrolysis material. The implication of this research is that PBL can be an effective approach in improving the quality of chemistry learning at the high school level, especially in strengthening critical thinking skills and increasing students' learning activities. Pre-test scores revealed no significant differences between the control group and the treatment group in terms of critical thinking skills (p > 0.05). However, post-test scores demonstrated a substantial increase in critical thinking skills among students in the treatment group (M = 85.6, SD = 7.2) compared to those in the control group (M = 72.3, SD = 6.8), with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). Therefore, it is recommended that PBL be applied more often in the context of chemistry learning to optimize student learning outcomes.

Abstract

A deep understanding of data collection and analysis techniques is an essential competence for students to produce valid and high-quality research. This study employed a quantitative descriptive approach with 22 students as subjects who had studied these techniques. Each student was tasked with evaluating two quantitative theses relevant to the learning model, published within the last five years. The evaluation used a rubric covering seven key components: Data Identification and Classification, Frequency Distribution, Measures of Central Tendency and Data Variation, Coefficient of Variation, Standard Values, Inferential Statistical Procedures, and Data Integration and Synthesis. The study results revealed varying levels of student understanding across the components. Most students achieved high competence in Data Identification and Classification (95.45%) and Inferential Statistical Procedures (95.45%). However, comprehension of more complex components, such as Coefficient of Variation and Standard Values, remained weak, with only 54.55% of students fully competent. This study highlights the need for more structured teaching methods and intensive practical exercises, particularly in advanced statistical analysis and data visualization. The implications suggest that improving these areas can strengthen students' research skills, supporting better mastery of data analysis techniques in the future.

Abstract

The main issue in this study is that many students still have difficulty integrating theory with practice, particularly at the stages of data visualization and interpretation. This study aims to explore students' understanding of data collection and analysis techniques in research statistics courses through the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PJBL) method. A qualitative descriptive approach was used in this study, involving 22 students from the Chemistry Education Program. Students were applied to each stage of PJBL, namely: (1) Determining the Main Question, (2) Compiling a Project Plan, (3) Collecting and Analyzing Data, (4) Compiling Results and Interpretation, and (5) Project Evaluation. The results showed that students demonstrated a good understanding at the initial stages, such as Determining the Main Question and Compiling a Project Plan, which reflects their ability to understand and design the data analysis process. At more complex stages, such as Data Collection and Analysis and Compiling Results and Interpretation, it was found that some students had difficulty connecting the analysis results with the research context. Students' reflections during the Project Evaluation phase indicated that they were aware of the challenges they faced, such as the in-depth understanding of data visualization and interpretation techniques, as well as the importance of applying theory to practice. This study highlights the importance of the PJBL approach in supporting experiential learning to enhance students' understanding of research statistical techniques. Through in-depth exploration, this study provides insights into the learning challenges and the potential of project-based learning strategies to enhance students' research skills in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the correlation between the implementation of Chemistry learning and student learning outcomes through a Google Classroom-based Blended Learning model. This research is a type of descriptive quantitative study. Data were collected in the form of the implementation of learning and student learning outcomes, which were then analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. The observations showed that the implementation of learning reached 100% for both pre- and post-online learning sessions, and 86% for face-to-face learning. The average score of student learning outcomes in the experimental group was 80.25 with a standard deviation of 10.65. The analysis revealed a very strong and significant correlation between the implementation of learning and student learning outcomes, with a correlation value (r) of 0.957, indicating that the higher the implementation of learning, the better the student learning outcomes. This indicates that the use of the Google Classroom platform in the Blended Learning model contributes significantly to improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

16S rRNA analysis has been used for decades to identify and identify phylogenetic relationships for microorganisms, for instance bacteria. 16S rRNA analysis can identify at the genus and species level. One of the most frequently identified microorganisms using 16S rRNA analysis is endophytic bacteria. Endophytic bacteria have a symbiotic relationship with plants and can synthesis the same compounds as their hosts. The existence of endophytic bacteria benefits their hosts because it can protect plants against insects or pathogens and can help plant growth by producing plant growth regulator compounds, such as IAA, GA3, and cytokinins. In addition, some endophytic bacteria such as Bacillus Burkholderia Enterobacter species, and Staphylococcus sp have antibacterial, antioxidant and anticancer activity. Hence endophytic bacteria need to be identified molecularly. Literature studies show that endophytic bacteria have been successfully isolated from various plants such as Bacillus cereus, Baicillus pumilus, Baicillus siamensis, Burkholderia Enterobacter, and Staphylococcus sp. These endophytic bacteria have antibacterial activity, especially on pathogenic bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella sp.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving student collaboration skills in the Research Statistics course. Collaboration is defined as the ability to work harmoniously in a group to achieve a common goal. In the context of higher education, this skill is important to support students' readiness to face the world of work that demands the ability to work in a team. The research uses a quantitative descriptive approach, with data obtained through questionnaires and observation sheets. The measurement was carried out based on five dimensions of collaboration: effective communication, teamwork, division of tasks, joint problem-solving, and mutual respect. The research sample consisted of 22 students in the V semester, who were selected using the total sampling technique. Data analysis was carried out descriptively to calculate the average score of each dimension and its category based on a scale. The findings indicate that the PjBL model positively impacts students' collaboration skills, with significant improvements in the dimensions of mutual respect and teamwork (categorized as Very Good). However, the task distribution dimension requires further attention due to gaps in group responsibilities. These findings confirm that PjBL is effective in bridging the gap between academic competencies and workforce demands, while also recommending the integration of active learning in higher education
