Abstract

This study examines the main forms of discrimination, including gender inequality, racial bias, economic barriers, challenges faced by athletes with disabilities, the impact of the industrialisation of sport, and the influence of the Relative Age Effect (RAE). The method used is a literature study covering academic research, international agency reports, policy documents, and case studies. The results of the study show that gender inequality is still evident in the distribution of resources, competition opportunities, leadership positions, and media coverage. Racial bias arises through stereotypes, subjective coaching assessments, and economic inequality. Athletes from low-income families face limitations in accessing quality coaching, facilities, and competitions, while athletes with disabilities often face barriers in accessing adequate facilities and support. RAE also contributes to creating indirect but persistent inequalities in athlete development. These various forms of discrimination have an impact on athletes' psychological well-being, career opportunities, and the effectiveness of sports organisation management. The research findings emphasise the need for inclusive policies, anti-discrimination training, equal access to facilities, transparent selection processes, and more balanced media coverage

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan realitas kehidupan mahasiswa asal Sulawesi Tenggara yang tinggal di asrama tidak layak huni di Kota Makassar. Menggunakan teori Pierre Bourdieu sebagai pisau analisis, khususnya konsep habitus, modal sosial, dan kekuasaan simbolik, penelitian ini menelaah bagaimana mahasiswa bertahan, beradaptasi, dan membentuk solidaritas di tengah kondisi fisik yang memprihatinkan. Menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan tahapan pengumpulan data yaitu observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yaitu trianggulasi data yang berupa trianggulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa asrama berfungsi lebih dari sekadar tempat tinggal. Ia berfungsi sebagai ruang sosial yang kaya akan makna simbolik di sinilah mahasiswa memperkuat identitas daerah, membangun rasa kekeluargaan, dan menemukan kenyamanan emosional yang tidak mereka dapatkan di tempat lain. Praktik penggunaan bahasa daerah, gotong royong, dan solidaritas kolektif mencerminkan habitus yang dibawa dari kampung halaman dan disesuaikan dengan konteks sosial kehidupan kota. Namun, di balik solidaritas itu terdapat gambaran ketimpangan struktural yang tajam. Ketidakseriusan pemerintah dalam memastikan hunian layak mencerminkan kekerasan simbolik, di mana kelompok marginal menganggap ketidakadilan sebagai hal yang normal. Asrama berfungsi sebagai arena perjuangan sosial bagi mahasiswa, tidak hanya untuk bertahan secara ekonomi, tetapi juga untuk mempertahankan martabat dan identitas budaya dalam sistem pendidikan yang belum sepenuhnya mendukung kelompok-kelompok yang terpinggirkan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of physical education as a social space that fosters student participation and social cohesion in elementary schools. The research was conducted at UPT SD Negeri 179 Inpres Balang using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD), and then analyzed through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that student participation in physical education is not only limited to physical involvement but also includes social interactions, teamwork, decision-making, and peer support. Supporting factors of participation include students’ internal motivation, the role of PE teachers, adequate facilities, and a supportive social environment, while inhibiting factors consist of limited facilities, differences in physical ability, less supportive learning climate, external factors, and lack of parental support. Furthermore, physical education significantly contributes to building social cohesion by enhancing social interactions, fostering solidarity, reducing discrimination, shaping sportive and democratic character, and serving as a medium for conflict resolution. Thus, physical education functions as a strategic instrument to strengthen values of equality, togetherness, and social integration in elementary schools.

Abstract

The development of technology and digitalization has given rise to a new phenomenon in the world of sports—e-sports—which shifts the concept of sports from physical activities to the virtual realm. This study aims to analyze the position of e-sports within the context of physical education and its implications for the changing meaning of physical activity from a socio-cultural perspective. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through literature review, academic articles, and relevant previous studies. The findings indicate that although e-sports do not require intensive physical activity, they possess competitive characteristics similar to traditional sports, particularly in aspects of strategy, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The popularity of e-sports among younger generations presents both challenges and opportunities for physical education to integrate digital literacy, 21st-century skills, and values of sportsmanship without neglecting the importance of physical health. Socio-culturally, e-sports reflect the dynamics of digital society while reaffirming that the meaning of sports is dynamic and contextual. Therefore, educators, communities, and the government need to play an active role in guiding the development of e-sports to maintain a balance between physical, educational, and achievement dimensions.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of character building by teachers in Physical Education (Penjas) at Mamajang 2 Elementary School through the perspective of the sociology of physical education and sports. The research focuses on four core values: discipline, collaboration, sportsmanship, and responsibility. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that Physical Education teachers play a crucial role in instilling character values through habituation, role modeling, and social interaction during learning. Discipline is reflected in students' adherence to rules and timetables, collaboration emerges in teamwork, sportsmanship is evident in honesty and accepting defeat, and responsibility is evident in students' concern for assignments and the learning environment. However, obstacles remain in the form of low student awareness and motivation, where character values have not been fully ingrained intrinsically. From the perspective of the sociology of education, this indicates a suboptimal moral socialization process. The study concludes that physical education has great potential as a means of building social character if teachers can consistently act as role models and facilitators of moral values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the school environment and physical activity on student solidarity from the perspective of social ecology in physical education at SDN Karya Baru. The focus of the research is to understand how the conditions of the school environment and students’ involvement in physical activities shape social behavior and solidarity among elementary school students. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with 12 informants consisting of students, a physical education teacher, and homeroom teachers. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Data analysis follows the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results show that (1) a supportive school environment plays an important role in fostering social solidarity; (2) physical activity serves as an effective medium for developing cooperation and empathy; (3) the social ecology perspective explains the reciprocal relationship between the environment and students’ solidarity behavior; and (4) teachers and school culture are key factors in internalizing values of togetherness. In conclusion, physical education not only functions to develop physical aspects but also serves as an essential medium for shaping students’ social character and solidarity.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the Muslim minority's perspective on religious differences in the SMAN 1 environment. The research method used is a phenomenological qualitative research method with semi-structured interview techniques and participant observation, the number of informants is two people, one man and one woman who were chosen purposively. Data analysis using the Miles & Huberman interactive model. The research results show five main themes: (1) ambivalent perceptions of diversity, (2) dynamics of interfaith interactions, (3) school support for religious activities, (4) variations in the role of teachers in building tolerance, and (5) expressions of religious identity that are not always accepted equally. These findings confirm that tolerance in schools is formed through social interaction, the role of teachers, and institutional culture. This research shows that students' experiences in interacting with religious diversity in schools are complex and influenced by social dynamics that occur in daily activities. Students generally understand that diversity is part of school life, but their perceptions and experiences vary, ranging from a sense of comfort and mutual respect to tension during discussions related to religion. These findings emphasize that tolerance is not formed automatically in a diverse environment, but is a process that requires institutional support, healthy social relations, and the role of teachers in socializing diversity.

Abstract

Sport is not only understood as a physical activity, but also as a social phenomenon that influences interaction patterns, identity formation, and societal structures. This article aims to analyze the role of the sociology of sport in social life at the individual and group levels. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method through a literature review that examines various academic sources related to the social dynamics in sport practices. The results of the study indicate that at the individual level, sport plays a role in character formation, value socialization, and the development of social and emotional competencies such as discipline, cooperation, and sportsmanship. At the group and community level, sport functions as a medium for social cohesion, forming collective identity, and uniting multicultural societies. However, sport also reflects social inequality, commercialization, gender bias, and power relations as explained through Bourdieu's theoretical perspective. On the other hand, sport has transformative potential as an instrument of empowerment and social development when managed inclusively and equitably. Thus, a sociological understanding of sport is important in formulating sports policies and programs that can strengthen solidarity, foster individual character, and support social development.

Abstract

Permasalahan utama penelitian ini adalah bagaimana pendidikan multikultural, pendidikan kedamaian, dan pendidikan inklusif dipahami, dibedakan, serta sejauh mana urgensinya diterapkan secara komplementer dalam konteks Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis perbedaan prinsip, tujuan, dan strategi ketiga model pendidikan tersebut sekaligus menegaskan urgensi ketiganya bagi penguatan sistem pendidikan nasional dan pembangunan manusia Indonesia. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan studi pustaka dan analisis dokumen, dengan sumber data berupa literatur akademik, laporan penelitian, serta kebijakan pendidikan. Analisis data dilakukan melalui content analysis dengan tahapan reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan, serta validasi menggunakan triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketiga paradigma pendidikan tersebut memiliki titik tekan berbeda: pendidikan multikultural menekankan penghargaan atas keragaman, pendidikan kedamaian membekali keterampilan resolusi konflik dan harmoni sosial, sementara pendidikan inklusif menjamin akses serta partisipasi setara bagi semua peserta didik. Meskipun berbeda, ketiganya saling melengkapi dalam membangun sistem pendidikan yang mampu menumbuhkan toleransi, solidaritas dan kohesi sosial serta integrasi nasional. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa integrasi ketiga pendekatan secara komplementer sangat urgen untuk menjawab tantangan pluralitas Indonesia, memperkokoh modal sosial bangsa, serta mendukung tercapainya pembangunan manusia Indonesia seutuhnya.

Abstract

Pendidikan lintas budaya dan pendidikan keagamaan dapat berfungsi sebagai pilar preventif yang saling melengkapi: pendidikan lintas budaya membangun pemahaman identitas, penghargaan terhadap perbedaan, dan kompetensi dialog antar-kelompok sementara pendidikan keagamaan bila disajikan secara moderat dan berorientasi nilai kemanusiaan  memperkuat nilai-nilai moral yang mendukung toleransi dan rekonsiliasi. Latar belakang ini didukung oleh bukti bahwa program pendidikan yang menekankan interaksi antarkelompok mengurangi prasangka dan permusuhan. Tujuan dari studi ini adalah mengeksplorasi mekanisme sinergis antara kedua pendekatan dan bagaimana integrasinya dapat menurunkan risiko konflik di komunitas majemuk. Metode yang digunakan meliputi telaah kebijakan dan literatur (termasuk pedoman UNESCO tentang pendidikan lintas budaya), analisis teori kontak antarkelompok, serta studi kualitatif melalui wawancara dengan pendidik, tokoh agama, dan peserta didik di sekolah SMP Negeri 3 manokwari serta beberapa komunitas. Hasilnya  menunjukkan bahwa gabungan kurikulum yang mengintegrasikan perspektif multikultural, pengalaman kontak terstruktur antaragama, dan pengajaran nilai religius universal meningkatkan empati, keterampilan resolusi konflik, dan identitas kebangsaan inklusif. Temuan dari penelitian ini sejalan dengan teori kontak antarkelompok dan konsep multicultural education yang menekankan peran sekolah dalam mendorong keadilan sosial. Kesimpulannya, integrasi sistematis pendidikan lintas budaya dan pendidikan keagamaan dalam kurikulum, pelatihan guru, dan kebijakan dapat menjadi strategi efektif pencegahan konflik di masyarakat plural. Peran Pendidikan dalam Pencegahan Konflik, UNESCO menekankan bahwa pendidikan adalah alat penting dalam pencegahan konflik, karena melalui pendidikan bisa ditanamkan nilai pemahaman, toleransi, dan penghormatan terhadap keragaman.UNESCO menekankan bahwa sistem pendidikan harus mengembangkan sikap, nilai, dan kompetensi (knowledge, skills, attitudes) yang mendukung hidup berdampingan dalam masyarakat majemuk.
