Abstract

This study aims to: (1) Describe elementary school teachers' understanding of the concept of Deep Learning, considering that this conceptual understanding is the main foundation for transformative pedagogical practice; (2) Describe the forms of roles that are clearly displayed by teachers in the learning process to encourage the occurrence of Deep Learning, which includes the principles of awareness, meaningfulness, and encouraging; and (3) Describe the supporting and inhibiting factors faced by teachers in implementing these roles, which include internal aspects (individual capacity) and external aspects (school policy support and availability of resources). The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with three classroom teachers (II, IV, VI), three representative students, and the principal, and document studies. The data analysis technique follows an interactive model through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The research revealed that: (1) Teachers' understanding of deep learning develops progressively according to the class level, from meaning as applicable knowledge to the formation of mindset; (2) The role of teachers is shown through a variety of strategies—the principles of awareness (question-and-answer techniques, reflection journals), meaningful (simulation, collaborative projects), and exhilarating (play-based learning, intellectual challenges); (3) The main supporting factors include teacher commitment and instructional leadership, while the main obstacles are administrative burden and curriculum pressure. Teachers have demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of deep learning and are able to apply the role of facilitators through strategies that are differentiated according to the grade level. The success of deep learning implementation is highly dependent on systemic support in reducing administrative barriers and strengthening teacher capacity through sustainable development programs.

Abstract

Abstract

Basic mathematical operations are fundamental for numeracy learning in elementary education, yet many fourth-grade students still struggle with addition, subtraction, and multiplication, especially in complex tasks. Previous methods often focus on final results and rarely apply systematic formative assessment at the beginning of instruction to support both numeracy skills and learning effort. This study examined Mini Quizzes as an early formative assessment strategy for Grade IV students at SD Muhammadiyah 4 Pucang Surabaya. Using a quantitative one-group pretest–posttest design with 62 students, results showed a 36.34% improvement in basic operation skills, with the largest gain in multiplication (+73.85%). Learning effort, measured through summative score growth, increased by 17.47%, and effect sizes ranged from moderate to high. The study demonstrates the novelty of integrating Mini Quizzes routinely at the start of lessons to reinforce conceptual understanding and sustain learning effort. Mini Quizzes are therefore recommended as a practical tool to strengthen numeracy achievement and continuous mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools. Highlights:  Students demonstrated substantial growth in arithmetic skills after systematic early-session assessments. The strongest improvement occurred in higher-complexity multiplication tasks. Summative score progression reflected consistent increases in student learning effort. Keywords: Mini Quiz, Basic Mathematical Operations, Formative Assessment, Numeracy Elementary School

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of gotong royong character in students through the use of Educaplay Froggy Jumps media in Civics learning in elementary schools. This study used qualitative methods. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman technique. This study took place at SDN Mulyorejo 1 Surabaya, class 4A, with five groups of students as subjects. Research results based on observations, interviews, and documentation indicated that the use of Educaplay Froggy Jumps media can support the development of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) in students. This is evident in the emergence of mutual assistance in group discussions, cooperation in group work, and the responsibility of each group member for assigned tasks. Students also demonstrated active involvement and positive interactions throughout the learning process. Therefore, the use of Educaplay Froggy Jumps media in learning Civic can be an effective alternative learning medium for fostering and strengthening elementary school students’ mutual cooperation.

Abstract

Monotonous learning methods, confusing curriculum, lack of student motivation and low academic achievement of students. The teacher's task is very vital in fostering student motivation by creating interesting and meaningful learning. One of the media that can be used in the learning process is the traditional engklek game media. This study aims to develop traditional engklek game media that meets the criteria of valid, practical, and effective in phase B science learning at elementary school level. The type of research used is research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE model consisting of 5 stages, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation. At the Development stage, the researcher conducted a validity test by two material experts and two media experts showing that this media is very valid, with a percentage of 97% from material experts and 96% from media experts. At the Implementation stage, the researcher conducted a practicality test assessed through student and teacher responses, resulting in a score of 84% from students and 89% from teachers. At the Evaluation stage, the researcher tested the effectiveness of the media as measured by student learning outcomes, which showed a percentage of 72%, indicating that the media was effectively used. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the hopscotch game media is very feasible from the valid, practical, and effective aspects as a learning media in improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of flashcard media assisted by the Discovery Learning model in supporting science learning at the elementary school level and to provide a new learning method that can be applied in the classroom. Science learning which is still dominated by lecture methods makes students less active and has difficulty understanding concepts concretely. Therefore, this study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection methods in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included class teachers and third-grade students, with the main focus on the implementation process and the impact of using flashcard media in each Discovery Learning syntax. Data analysis techniques through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that students gave a positive response to the implementation carried out. This is evident from the increased enthusiasm and activeness of students during the learning process. In addition, the use of flashcards helps students understand science material more easily, interestingly, and concretely. The application of the Discovery Learning model in collaboration with flashcard media can be an alternative new learning method applied by teachers in the classroom.
