Abstract

This study examines the socio-economic dynamics in the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea border area, focusing on the Sota Cross-Border Post (PLBN) which was built in 2019 and inaugurated in October 2021. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of PLBN on socio-economic changes in the border communities of Sota and Weam, as well as its implications for Indonesia-Papua New Guinea bilateral cooperation. The method used is qualitative research with a case study approach, which involves in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation studies. The results of the study show that before PLBN, border communities depended on subsistence activities such as agriculture, hunting, and traditional trade. The existence of PLBN brings significant changes in the aspect of cross-border trade, opens up wider market access, and creates new opportunities in the trade and small business sectors. However, the challenges of infrastructure management and limited human resource capacity at the local government level are still the main obstacles. PLBN Sota has the potential to become a new economic growth center in South Papua, with a sustainable development strategy that involves strengthening infrastructure and the capacity of local communities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the Jayapura City Border Management Agency in the Sister City program with Vanimo and Wewak, Papua New Guinea. This program is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and improve the welfare of people in border areas. The research method used is qualitative, with a case study approach, where data are obtained through in-depth interviews with various stakeholders, including government officials, local communities, and non-governmental organizations. Analysis of related documents is also carried out to explore existing policies and programs. The results of the study are expected to show that the Border Management Agency plays an important role in facilitating collaboration between the City of Jayapura and cities in Papua New Guinea. This role includes the development of the economic sector, the promotion of cultural exchanges, and the resolution of security issues arising in the border region. In addition, the study is expected to find that challenges such as lack of infrastructure and lack of accurate information can hinder the effectiveness of the program. The output of this research is in the form of strategic recommendations to increase the effectiveness of the Sister City program, including strengthening communication networks and cooperation between related institutions. Thus, this research is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of policies that support better border management, as well as improve the welfare of the people on both sides. These results can also serve as a reference for further research on inter-city cooperation in border areas.

Abstract

The implementation of the Sister City concept between Jayapura City (Indonesia) and Vanimo and Wewak (Papua New Guinea) has become an important strategy in strengthening cross-border cooperation based on paradiplomacy. Paradiplomacy refers to a form of subnational diplomacy that allows local governments to establish international relations to support economic, social, and cultural development. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Sister City implementation between the three cities in improving trade connectivity, cultural exchange, and collaboration in education and health. This study uses a qualitative approach with policy analysis methods, in-depth interviews, and case studies of various Sister City implementations around the world. Data collected through interviews with local stakeholders and policy documents form the basis for developing practical recommendations on improving cooperation between the cities, with a focus on strengthening trade relations and cultural exchange. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of more effective bilateral policies, particularly in the context of local governments in both countries. The expected outputs of this study are policy recommendations in the form of policy briefs for Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, as well as publication in a Sinta 2 indexed journal.

Abstract

This study discusses the shift in religious meaning in local traditions as a result of increasingly intensive global cultural interaction in the era of globalisation. Using a literature review method, this study examines various forms of change that have occurred in the implementation and interpretation of religious traditions in society, and identifies the main driving factors, such as globalisation, modernisation, urbanisation, technological developments, and lifestyle changes. The findings reveal that local religious traditions are shifting from a sacred dimension towards a more secular and symbolic dimension, with a decline in community participation and the commodification of traditions. However, there are efforts to revitalise and adapt traditions to remain relevant amid the tide of change. This study emphasises the importance of preserving religious values through creative and collaborative approaches to maintain local cultural identity in the global era.

Abstract

Local traditions play an important role as markers of community identity amid the increasingly complex challenges of globalisation. This study aims to analyse how local religious traditions respond to global changes, emphasising the processes of adaptation and resistance that occur at the community level. Through a literature review method, this study found that the adaptation of local religious traditions occurs not only in ritual aspects but also in the underlying values, influenced by the role of religious elites, the younger generation, government policies, and digital technology. On the other hand, resistance emerges as an effort to preserve spiritual meaning and cultural identity amid the tide of global homogenisation. The findings indicate that the success of preserving traditions as markers of identity depends heavily on the community's ability to balance the preservation of noble values with creative innovation, ensuring that local traditions remain relevant and serve as a source of inspiration in the era of globalisation.

Abstract

The study aims to explore the implementation of local wisdom in learning in schools in rural areas, focusing on how local Wisdom can be integrated into the learning process to improve the relevance and effectiveness of education. The study reveals the contribution of local wisdom in educating students about identities and traditions of communities, as well as its role in strengthening character education and preserving cultural values in the face of global influence and modern technology. This research is carried out through a literature review, which involves the collection and analysis of secondary data from relevant sources, including scientific journals, articles, research reports, and online sources. Through this method, research identifies, analyzes, and synthesizes findings from previous research related to the implementation of local wisdom in education, especially in rural areas. Research results show that the implementation of local wisdom in learning in rural schools has significant potential in enriching student curricula and learning experiences. Local wisdom, when integrated into learning, can enhance students' understanding of their socio-cultural environment and local history, while facilitating the building of identity and appreciation of cultural heritage. In addition, learning strategies that leverage local wisdom have proven effective in developing students' critical skills, problem-solving skills, and project-based learning relevant to their local context. Obstacles identified include resource shortages, the need for teacher training for innovative learning strategies, and the challenge of integrating local content with national educational standards. The research reaffirms the importance of collaboration between schools, communities, and stakeholders in encouraging and nurturing the implementation of local wisdom in education.
