Abstract

Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is one of the most important aquaculture species worldwide, but intensive farming has increased susceptibility to bacterial infections, particularly Aeromonas hydrophila, which threatens productivity and survival. This study evaluated fermented papaya (Carica papaya L.) leaf extract (FPLE) as a natural immunostimulant and sustainable alternative to antibiotics in Nile tilapia culture. A 45-day feeding trial was conducted using a completely randomized design with five treatments (0, 16, 18, and 20 mL FPLE/kg feed) and three replicates. Hematological, immunological, growth, and bacterial resistance parameters were analyzed. Results showed that supplementation with 20 mL/kg FPLE significantly increased post-infection leukocyte counts (2.82×10⁴ vs. 2.40×10⁴ cells/mm³), phagocytic activity (46.26% vs. 39.51%), and erythrocyte levels (5.85×10⁶ vs. 5.25×10⁶ cells/mm³). Differential leukocyte analysis revealed lymphocyte dominance (90.33%) and elevated monocytes (13.33%), indicating enhanced adaptive and nonspecific immunity. In addition, total bacterial load decreased by 22.4%, and specific growth rate improved (4.34% vs. 4.22%/day), while water quality remained within optimal ranges. The synergistic effects of papaya-derived bioactive compounds and Lactobacillus casei probiotics from Yakult likely contributed to immune enhancement and nutrient absorption. FPLE supplementation at 20 mL/kg optimized immunostimulation without compromising survival (77–84%), demonstrating its dual role in disease prevention and growth promotion. These findings highlight FPLE as a safe, eco-friendly feed additive with strong potential for reducing antibiotic dependence and supporting sustainable tilapia aquaculture.

Abstract

Turtles are a species that faces the threat of extinction due to habitat degradation, hunting, and marine pollution. North Lombok Regency has a coastal ecosystem that is an important habitat for turtles to lay their eggs, so conservation efforts are crucial. This community service program aims to optimize the release of hatchlings by increasing community and tourist participation as an ecotourism-based conservation strategy. The methods used include conservation education, community involvement in beach patrols, and hatchling releases involving tourists with a local wisdom-based approach. The results of the activities show an increase in community and tourist awareness of the importance of turtle conservation, as evidenced by their increased involvement in nest monitoring and hatchling releases. In addition, this program contributes to local economic growth through conservation-based ecotourism, where communities are starting to get involved in tourism support services. However, there are still challenges in terms of long-term funding and regulations that need to be strengthened to maintain a balance between tourism and conservation activities. In conclusion, a hatchling release program involving communities and tourists can be an effective and sustainable conservation model. With the right strategy, such as increasing education, partnerships with various parties, and supporting regulations, this program can continue to grow and provide ecological and socio-economic benefits for the community in North Lombok Regency.

Abstract

This community service activity focused on developing feed production techniques using local raw materials for mud crab farmers in Madak Belek Hamlet, Sekotong District. The main challenge faced by farmers is the high cost of commercial feed, which reduces profit margins. In fact, the area is rich in underutilized nutrient-rich local resources such as trash fish and seafood processing by-products. A participatory approach was applied, including observation, socialization, demonstration, hands-on training, and evaluation. The training emphasized feed formulation and the application of 5% wheat gluten as a binder, which had been proven in preliminary studies to enhance feed stability in water. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills in processing local ingredients into quality feed. The expected impacts include reducing dependence on commercial feed, lowering production costs, and improving the efficiency and sustainability of mud crab farming. For further optimization, feed performance testing on crab growth and economic feasibility analysis are required.

Abstract

Aquaculture plays a pivotal role in global food security but faces challenges such as diseases, oxidative stress, and reliance on unsustainable feed ingredients. Tocotrienol, a plant-based vitamin E isomer, offers an innovative solution with superior antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties compared to α-tocopherol. This review examines the utilization of tocotrienol from natural sources like red palm oil (Elaeis guineensis) and annatto seeds (Bixa orellana)—containing up to 4,135 mg/L δ-tocotrienol—to enhance aquaculture productivity. Empirical studies demonstrate that tocotrienol supplementation in feed improves Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) growth and feed efficiency. Its mechanisms involve NF-κB pathway inhibition, Nrf2-ARE activation, and pparγ gene regulation for lipid metabolism. However, challenges such as thermal degradation during feed extrusion and species-specific responses require formulation strategies like nanoencapsulation or industrial byproducts (PFAD). Through integrated approaches, tocotrienol holds potential as a strategic feed additive to advance sustainable aquaculture by enhancing fish health, product quality, and economic efficiency.

Abstract

Pengelolaan limbah organik yang tidak optimal masih menjadi permasalahan utama di wilayah pedesaan, termasuk di Desa Sengkol, Kecamatan Pujut, Kabupaten Lombok Tengah. Limbah rumah tangga dan pertanian yang dibuang tanpa pengolahan berpotensi mencemari lingkungan dan mengganggu kesehatan masyarakat. Di sisi lain, pemanfaatan lahan pekarangan untuk mendukung ketahanan pangan keluarga juga belum dimaksimalkan. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat melalui implementasi solusi terpadu berbasis budidaya maggot Black Soldier Fly (BSF) sebagai upaya pengelolaan limbah organik sekaligus optimalisasi lahan pekarangan melalui penanaman sayuran. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan teknis budidaya maggot dan pembuatan pupuk kasgot, serta distribusi bibit sayuran (cabai, tomat, dan terong) yang melibatkan 27 ibu rumah tangga sebagai peserta. Hasil program menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat mengenai pengelolaan limbah organik berkelanjutan. Budidaya maggot BSF terbukti efektif mereduksi volume limbah rumah tangga sekaligus menghasilkan biomassa maggot sebagai pakan ternak alternatif dan pupuk kasgot yang diaplikasikan pada tanaman pekarangan. Integrasi antara pengelolaan limbah dan budidaya sayuran menciptakan siklus ekonomi sirkular yang berkontribusi pada penguatan ketahanan pangan keluarga dan kemandirian ekonomi masyarakat. Partisipasi aktif masyarakat sepanjang program menjadi indikator keberhasilan transfer teknologi dan pengetahuan. Untuk menjamin keberlanjutan, diperlukan pendampingan berkelanjutan dari pemerintah desa dan penguatan kelembagaan lokal. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi model replikasi bagi desa-desa lain dalam mengatasi permasalahan limbah organik sekaligus memperkuat ketahanan pangan secara mandiri dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Dusun Repok Pancor di Desa Sigerongan, Kecamatan Lingsar, Kabupaten Lombok Barat memiliki potensi besar dalam budidaya perikanan, khususnya komoditas ikan nila. Meskipun demikian, para pembudidaya masih menghadapi berbagai kendala, seperti pengelolaan pemeliharaan dan sanitasi yang belum optimal serta efisiensi penggunaan pakan yang rendah. Keterbatasan pemahaman mengenai standar Cara Budidaya Ikan yang Baik (CBIB) menjadi salah satu faktor penghambat peningkatan produktivitas dan keberlanjutan usaha. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan pembudidaya dalam menerapkan prinsip-prinsip CBIB. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penyuluhan, diskusi interaktif, dan pendampingan langsung dengan pendekatan partisipatif dan demonstratif. Evaluasi dilakukan untuk menilai perubahan pengetahuan dan sikap peserta sebelum dan sesudah program. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman dan keterampilan teknis pembudidaya, terutama terkait biosekuriti, pengelolaan kualitas air, penggunaan pakan yang tepat, serta pengelolaan limbah budidaya. Peserta juga memperlihatkan antusiasme dan komitmen dalam menerapkan CBIB pada kegiatan sehari-hari. Secara keseluruhan, pelatihan dan pendampingan ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap peningkatan kapasitas pembudidaya dan berpotensi menjadi model pemberdayaan masyarakat perikanan yang berkelanjutan dan berdaya saing.

Abstract

Ekosistem mangrove memiliki peran ekologis dan ekonomis yang sangat penting dalam menjaga keseimbangan lingkungan pesisir, antara lain sebagai penahan abrasi, penyerap karbon, serta habitat bagi biota laut seperti kepiting. Namun, keberadaan mangrove sering terancam akibat alih fungsi lahan, penebangan, dan rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, kesadaran, dan partisipasi masyarakat dalam menjaga kelestarian mangrove melalui pendekatan edukasi partisipatif. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi, diskusi partisipatif, praktik penanaman mangrove, serta pendampingan berkelanjutan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat memperoleh pemahaman lebih baik mengenai fungsi mangrove dan menunjukkan antusiasme dalam praktik penanaman, dengan jumlah bibit yang ditanam sebanyak ±100 batang di area kosong bekas tumbuhan mangrove. Selain itu, melalui pembentukan kelompok masyarakat peduli mangrove sebagai upaya keberlanjutan untuk dapat mengawasi dan menjaga. Kegiatan ini termasuk pada edukasi berbasis partisipasi aktif yang mampu meningkatkan kesadaran kolektif dan mendorong keterlibatan masyarakat secara langsung dalam konservasi lingkungan pesisir.

Abstract

Heavy metal present in marine water can affect aquatic organisms, particularly bivalves that function as filter feeders and therefore have a high potential to accumulate heavy metals in their bodies. Blood cockle (Anadara granosa) is one of the marine organisms commonly found in the waters of West Lombok, especially in the Lembar area, which is influenced by port activities and coastal community activities. This study aimed to analyze the concentration of lead (Pb) in blood cockles and sediments in the waters around Lembar, West Lombok, and to determine the safe consumption limit of cockles for the community. Samples of blood cockles and sediments were collected from three observation stations in Lembar waters. Each sample was collected in triplicate as replicates. The Pb concentration was analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) methods and the results were compared with applicable quality standards. The results showed that the Pb concentration in blood cockles ranged from 0.043–0.051 mg/kg with an average value of 0.047 mg/kg. These values are below the maximum limit set by the government, which is 0.1 mg/kg. Meanwhile, Pb concentrations in sediments ranged from 0.887–1.32 mg/kg and were still below the sediment quality standard of 25 mg/kg. The calculation of the safe consumption limit indicated that the Maximum Tolerable Intake (MTI) of blood cockles ranged from 29-35 kg/week for adults with an average body weight of 60 kg, indicating that blood cockles from the Lembar waters are still safe for consumption.

Abstract

West Nusa Tenggara has strong aquaculture potential, particularly in freshwater catfish (Clarias sp.) farming. However, farmers in Embung Pas Hamlet, Sigerongan Village, face challenges due to limited knowledge of jaundice disease, which can lead to mass mortality and economic losses. This community service activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and awareness regarding the identification, risks, prevention, and treatment of jaundice in catfish culture. The program was conducted on March 10, 2026, using a participatory approach through interactive lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and follow-up assistance. The materials included fish health management, disease symptoms, and control strategies. The results showed active participation and increased understanding among farmers, particularly in early detection and water quality management. Although minor constraints such as limited time and varying knowledge levels were encountered, the program was successfully implemented. Overall, this activity effectively enhanced farmers’ awareness and capacity in managing fish health sustainably.

Abstract

Mikroplastik polistirena (PS) semakin banyak dilaporkan terdapat dalam sistem akuakultur dan berpotensi menurunkan kinerja produksi organisme budidaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pengaruh paparan subletal mikroplastik PS terhadap kelangsungan hidup, pertumbuhan, dan efisiensi pemanfaatan pakan udang vaname (Litopenaeus vannamei). Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan empat perlakuan, yaitu 0 mg/L (P1/kontrol), 1 mg/L (P2), 10 mg/L (P3), dan 20 mg/L (P4), masing-masing tiga ulangan. Udang stadia PL-10 dipelihara selama 45 hari dalam 20 L media pemeliharaan. Variabel yang diamati meliputi kelangsungan hidup (SR), rasio konversi pakan (FCR), efisiensi pemanfaatan pakan (EPP), pertambahan bobot mutlak, pertambahan panjang mutlak, laju pertumbuhan bobot spesifik, dan laju pertumbuhan panjang spesifik. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA satu arah yang dilanjutkan dengan uji jarak berganda Duncan pada taraf 5%. Paparan PS berpengaruh signifikan terhadap seluruh variabel kinerja utama. Nilai SR menurun dari 71.67±2.89% pada kontrol menjadi 38.33±2.89% pada dosis 20 mg/L (F3,8=40.905; p<0.001). Nilai FCR meningkat dari 1.54±0.07 menjadi 2.94±0.38 (F3,8=17.348; p=0.001), sedangkan EPP menurun dari 52.27±3.12% menjadi 23.13±3.61% (F3,8=40.371; p<0.001). Pertambahan bobot mutlak, pertambahan panjang mutlak, laju pertumbuhan bobot spesifik, dan laju pertumbuhan panjang spesifik juga menurun signifikan seiring peningkatan dosis. Kualitas air tetap berada dalam kisaran layak sepanjang percobaan, sehingga penurunan performa lebih rasional dikaitkan dengan paparan PS daripada dengan penurunan kualitas media pemeliharaan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa kontaminasi mikroplastik PS merupakan faktor risiko yang relevan terhadap produktivitas budidaya udang vaname
