Abstract

Background: The data reveal a consistent decrease in the overall immunization coverage for babies in Kota Pariaman over a span of four years. Specifically, the coverage rates were recorded as 81.8% in 2018, 78.6% in 2019, 55.7% in 2020, and 66.7% in 2021. Purpose: The aim of this study is to identify the factors that contribute to the decrease in the achievement of complete basic immunization among children in Kota Pariaman. Methods: The present study used the quantitative research method with a cross-sectional design. The study sample comprised of mothers with infants aged 12 months residing in Pariaman City. A purposive sampling method was employed to choose a total of 154 participants. The research was carried out between March 2022 and October 2022. Univariate analysis describes variable frequency, bivariate examines relationships using chi-square (p<0.05) and multivariate employs logistic regression, identifying influential variables. Results: Key findings include a lack of knowledge (40.3%), non-supportive attitudes of mothers (56.5%), mistrust by mothers (42.9%), limited access to health resources (52.6%), and inadequate family support (48.1%). There was significant support from healthcare workers (94.2%) and moderate backing from community leaders (56.5%). Significantly, a noteworthy association was observed between knowledge (p < 0.05), attitudes (p < 0.05), and family support (p < 0.05), and the successful attainment of fundamental vaccinations. Conclusions: Factors leading to the decreased rate of complete basic immunization for infants in Kota Pariaman include attitude, family support, and knowledge. As a remedy, local governments and health workers are urged to proactively provide health education on the significance of full basic immunization for infants. This preventive measure is paramount in safeguarding against severe acute illnesses, benefiting both the child and the broader community

Abstract

Introduction: The global prevalence of children with cancer continues to increase, reaching 186.6 per 1 million children aged 0-19 years. Children with cancer face challenges in fulfilling nutrition due to increased energy needs due to disease and treatment side effects. Nutritional assessment using nutrition screening tools is currently highly variable and varies across health institutions. This study aims to critically describe the assessment of nutritional screening tools in ensuring suitability and sensitivity as well as advantages and disadvantages in identifying the nutritional needs of children with cancer. Methods: PRISMA was used as a guide in preparing a systematic literature review based on inclusion criteria to determine research articles, search strategies, and research findings. Databases used in this study included Pubmed and Science Direct. Results: The use of appropriate nutrition screening tools is essential for assessing the nutritional status of pediatric patients with cancer. Appropriate nutrition screening tools have a positive impact on the nutritional fulfillment of children with cancer. There are five different nutrition screening tools in assessing the sensitivity of nutrition screening tools in children with cancer and their advantages and disadvantages. The sensitivity of the Screening Tool for Childhood Cancer (SCAN) and the Pediatric Yorkhill Malnutrition Score (PYMS) was highly accurate in correctly identifying children with cancer at risk of malnutrition. Conclusions: This finding is expected to be a recommendation for health workers in choosing the right nutrition screening tool to monitor the nutritional status of pediatric patients with cancer during treatment.

Abstract

Anemia in adolescent girls is very dangerous for both the short and long term. If it happens in the long term, after becoming a mother it will be detrimental to the baby in the future. Babies of anemic mothers will tend to give birth to premature babies later in the productive period of the teenager. Babies born to anemic adolescents are very at risk for malnutrition, then stunting. The purpose of this health education is to prevent anemia in adolescent girls as the primary prevention of stunting in toddlers. The implementation of this activity is carried out through 4 stages: situation analysis, preparation of needs for implementation of activities and evaluation of activities. The health education activities on anemia prevention were attended by 50 young women with pale conjunctiva criteria and often felt dizzy. The measuring instrument used is a questionnaire. The results of this activity in general can increase the knowledge of young women about anemia by 76%. Good knowledge before the activity was only 20%, after the activity increased to 96%. While the knowledge that is lacking before the activity is 80%, after the activity it is only 4%. Health education given to young women can increase knowledge in young women. It is hoped that young women can always eat balanced meals and blood-boosting tablets and disseminate this information to other young women. To the local health center to provide education on a regular basis every time they carry out youth posyandu activities.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are dangerous diseases and result in death. The problems found by partners are the low coverage of NCD screening targets, access to health services and the absence of an integrated services centre for the elderly in the targetted area, which impacts NCD monitoring not being carried out. Community service activities aimed to prevent and suppress NCD cases, especially for older people in vulnerable groups. The solution was to detect NCD and provide education and counselling for older people with NCD problems. The community service partner was the Public Health Center. The method of implementing activities was health screening (measuring height and weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid), providing health education about hypertension and diabetes mellitus and health counselling for those indicated by NCDs in Pauh sub-District, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The screening results found 15 healthy older people, 13 people with hypertension, ten people with diabetes, nine people with rheumatism, and seven people with high cholesterol. The results of education and counselling found an increase in knowledge by 16.69 points—follow-up plans by partners to form elderly health centres.

Abstract

Intake of good nutrition plays an important role in achieving optimal body growth. Optimal body growth also includes brain development, which determines someone's intelligence. A factor that is most visible in the community is the lack of a mother’s knowledge about the nutritional intake required for children during their growth period. The research design used in this study is simple experiments. The research was conducted from May to September 2011 in the work areas of Nanggalo Health Center, Padang. The population in this research includes all toddlers in the work areas of Nanggalo Health Center, Padang. The sample size is 60 toddlers, where 30 toddlers received multivitamin therapy, and 30 others received honey therapy for 30 days. After performing the Friedman test, both groups showed the same significance level (P < 0.05), which means there was no significant difference between group 1 and group 2. To determine which group had the most significant effect, a Wilcoxon test was conducted. The conclusion of this research indicates that the therapeutic effect of multivitamins is better than honey therapy combined with vitamin B complex on hemoglobin levels, albumin levels, and nutritional status (w/U) in toddlers in the work areas of Nanggalo Health Center, Padang, in 2011. It is recommended for health workers to provide counseling to the community to encourage the use of multivitamins for toddlers to supplement their nutritional needs for growth and development. Multivitamins are readily available and affordable for the public.
