Abstract

Sekolah Inklusi Sentra Salsabila provides curriculum and infrastructure to support children with special needs and normal children receiving education together. The COVID-19 pandemic impacts students’ lives, students can experience nutritional problems due to family economic crises and learning problems due to activities restriction outside the home. Situations that have changed significantly during the pandemic can cause stress and health problems in children. Community service activities (CSA) are carried out so that the school knows the health status of students and parents of students have sufficient knowledge as a first step to make efforts to improve students' adaptation to learning. Parents of students are given counseling about adolescent mental health, balanced nutrition, and worm infections. Students’ body composition was measured using Tanita MC-980 MA, then stress and resilience levels were measured using Heart Rate Variability Analyzer-Medicore SA 3000P. The results of the CSA show that parents of students already have sufficient knowledge, and it is known that some students need intervention related to their physical and mental health status. It can be concluded that this CSA succeeded in helping schools and parents to plan intervention steps to improve students’ adaptation to learning.

Abstract

During COVID-19, there was a change in student lifestyle, which triggered visceral fat accumulation. The accumulation of visceral fat is one of the causes of systemic inflammation, which is dangerous for the integrity of the brain and can potentially reduce cognitive function. This study aimed to determine the relationship between visceral fat and cognitive function among medical students. This study used a cross-sectional design towards 73 Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta students who met the criteria and were selected using a simple random sampling technique. The measurement of visceral fat was done using the Tanita Body Composition Analyzer, while the measurement of cognitive function was done using the Digit Symbol Substitution Test questionnaire. The study showed differences in sex and body mass index between normal and high visceral fat groups. There were no differences in age, consumption of junk food, and physical activity between the visceral fat groups. The Spearman test results showed a relationship between visceral fat and cognitive function (p-value equal 0.000; r equal -0.561). The higher the visceral fat, the lower the cognitive function.

Abstract

In 2023, data from Posbindu Delima, Sawangan Depok, showed that 37 residents had blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg (hypertension), and 5 residents had already experienced complications from hypertension, such as stroke and heart disease. In response to this issue, a community service was conducted to help control the blood pressure of residents with hypertension by adopting a healthy lifestyle. The community service consists of three stages: disseminating guidelines for filling out the healthy lifestyle logbook and socializing the community service program, providing direct education and education using WhatsApp, and evaluating. The knowledge level, medication adherence, and health of residents with hypertension were measured before and after community service. The evaluation of healthy lifestyle implementation was based on logbook data. The 5-week community service was attended by 12 residents, most of whom (66.7%) were female with an average age of 60.6 ± 8.6 years. The community service results showed the knowledge level of residents increased significantly, but there was no statistical difference in medication adherence. After adopting a healthy lifestyle, there were significant health improvements, including increased residents with controlled blood pressure, weight loss, and reduced waist circumference. It can be inferred that the community service successfully increased knowledge and encouraged residents with hypertension to adopt a healthy lifestyle, resulting in controlled blood pressure.

Abstract

The study results of 2020 reported that as many as 16% of COVID-19 survivors experience changes in their menstrual cycles. This study aimed to describe the menstruation cycle among COVID-19 survivors at The Faculty of Medicine, University Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta. This is an analytical study using a retrospective design. The sample size consisted of 32 subjects who met the criteria of being confirmed with COVID-19 within the past year, aged 18-24 years, normoweight, unmarried, and without a history of illness or the use of hormonal contraception that affects the menstrual cycle. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The results of the univariate analysis indicate that out of the subjects, 18 (56.3%) had received three doses of vaccination, 21 (65.6%) had received the first and second doses of the Sinovac vaccine, 31 (96.9%) experienced mild symptoms (home isolation) during the COVID-19 infection, and 9 (28.1%) had been infected with COVID-19 twice. Changes in menstrual cycles experienced by subjects 0-6 months after being infected with COVID-19 included two subjects with prolonged cycles, three subjects with shortened cycles, one subject with decreased menstrual blood volume, one subject with increased menstrual duration, five subjects experiencing menstrual pain, and two subjects experiencing bleeding between two cycles. A total of 8 subjects reported that these changes in menstrual cycles were recurring. The Chi-square exact test result indicates there was a relationship between the frequency of COVID-19 infection and the number of menstrual cycle changes (p = 0.022).

Abstract

Introduction: An unhealthy lifestyle among medical students maycontribute to inflammation, reduced vascular elasticity, andincreased blood pressure. However, cardiovascular risk in theseyoung adults remains less explored compared to hypertensivepatients. Purpose: This study compares inflammatory markers andvascular elasticity in prehypertensive and normotensive medicalstudents. Methods: A case-control study utilizing simple randomsampling was conducted in the medical student population, included54 prehypertensive or normotensive subjects with no history ofhematological disorders, autoimmune diseases, cancer, diabetesmellitus, or cardiovascular medication use. Vascular elasticity, blood pressure, and inflammatory markers were assessed using anaccelerated photoplethysmograph, a digital sphygmomanometer, and a hematology analyzer. Results: A total of 25 subjects (46.3 %)had suboptimal vascular elasticity, 30 (55.6%) had a highneutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and 40 (74.1%) exhibited alow-risk platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR). The Chi-square testrevealed a significant difference in NLR between prehypertensiveand normotensive students (p = 0.000; OR = 7.0; CI = 2.3–20.7),while no significant difference was observed in PLR (p = 0.525).Vascular elasticity also differed significantly between groups (p =0.000; OR = 5.2; CI = 2.0-13.2). Conclusion: Prehypertensivesubjects had higher NLR, and those with suboptimal vascularelasticity had higher prehypertension risk. These findings highlightthe need for cardiovascular risk assessment in young adults.
