Abstract

Assessing the problems of economic growth, urbanization, and development prospects in Tinggimoncong District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, have yet to catch up due to economic growth concentrated in cities. The concept of "Agropolitan" has been proposed to address this problem. The agropolitan concept combines human resources, natural resources, and added value in the agricultural sector to advance rural areas. Tinggimoncong sub-district has great potential to become an agricultural centre in the Gowa District for various types of crops. This study aims to analyze the status of sustainability and build appropriate strategies in the development of a rural area of horticultural agricultural production centres. The analysis method is multidimensional scaling (MDS) and SWOT. The results of this study indicate that agropolitan development strategies in Tinggimoncong District can utilize strong internal strengths, such as improving the quality of agricultural products, establishing an agricultural product processing industry, increasing training, and planning for the effective use of agricultural tools and machinery. In addition, it is also important to pay attention to ecological sustainability by educating farmers about good crop rotation, the use of organic materials as fertilizers, and sustainable soil conservation efforts. Cooperation between the government, farmers and various related parties can be the key to success in implementing the agropolitan concept and ensuring the sustainability of the region.

Abstract

The Porong River is one of the rivers that faces high anthropogenic impacts, such as surfactant waste from detergents. The hematology of Javanese carp (Barbonymus gonionotus) serves as a sentinel organism that can be used as a biomarker for the waters of the Porong River. The aim of this study is to analyze the water quality status of the Porong River polluted with surfactants using the STORET method, as well as its impact on the hematology of Javanese carp using regression and correlation analysis. The research employed a descriptive survey method. The results of the study indicated that the Porong River was categorized as moderately polluted. The average highest surfactant concentration reached 7.2 mg/L, leading to an increase in TSS to 107.95 mg/L and a decrease in DO to 1.80 mg/L. Surfactants exhibited a negative correlation with erythrocytes (91.2%), hematocrit (47.7%), and hemoglobin (60.6%), indicating that the higher the surfactant concentration, the lower the number of erythrocytes, hematocrit levels, and hemoglobin levels in Javanese carp. Conversely, there was a positive correlation between surfactants and leukocytes (56.7%) and blood glucose (66.7%), suggesting that the higher the surfactant concentration, the higher the number of leukocytes and blood glucose levels in Javanese carp.

Abstract

Benzimidazole and vanillin are compounds which can act as anti-inflammatory. However, the potential of these two compounds is still low. The structure of benzimidazole and vanillin was combined with Mannich base substitution in order to increase potency and selectivity as an anti-inflammatory. In this study, benzimidazolvanillin (1) and its Mannich base derivatives were synthesized. The synthesized compounds (2a-d) show anti-inflammatory activity based on in vitro tests by using protein denaturation inhibition test. Furthermore, the IC50 obtained ranged from 210 -243 μM. This potency is lower than diclofenac (IC50: 2,99μM). In molecular docking, the results of the inhibition constant ratio between COX-1 / COX-1 as well as the interaction of the ligand and target protein show that benzimimidazolvanillin and its Mannich-base derivatives could be anti-inflammatory drug candidates that should be investigated further.

Abstract

Selfing was carried out on the F2 population of corn plants and the S1 line was produced. Selfing is carried out to form pure lines in order to create hybrids. The aim of the research was to determine the magnitude of inbreeding depression, genetic diversity and heritability of leaf angle trait, yield and harvest age of the S1 line of corn plants under drought stress conditions in dry land. The experiment was carried out from March to June 2023 in Gumantar village, North Lombok district. The design used was a randomized block design, two replications. The number of treatments was 31, namely 30 S1 lines and an F2 population. Plantings are given heavy stress. Observed variables include flowering, growth, harvest age, yield components and yield. The level of inbreeding depression is based on the F2 population and is expressed as a percent. Genetic diversity is calculated based on the results of analysis of variance at a significance level of 5 percent. The results showed that inbreeding depression in leaf angle and harvest age of the S1 lines were relatively low; while the yield is classified as high. Broad categories of genetic diversity were obtained in the yield; while the leaf angle and harvest age are relatively narrow. Broad sense heritability was relatively high in the yield; while the leaf angle is classified as medium and the harvest age is relatively low. The selection of S1 lines should be based on yield, namely lines that have the same yield as the F2 population.
