Abstract

Anemia remains a global public health problem and continues to pose a significant burden in many developing countries. Several national and regional studies have reported that the prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls ranges from 14% to 50%, depending on location and survey methods, with many studies showing rates exceeding 30% in certain populations. Female students (santriwati) living in Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) are particularly vulnerable to anemia. Common contributing factors include inadequate iron intake, irregular communal eating practices, limited nutritional knowledge, excessive menstrual bleeding, and restricted access to health services. The implementation of the community engagement program consisted of three main stages: (1) Socialization and initial hemoglobin (Hb) screening to obtain a preliminary overview of anemia status; (2) Health education and interactive discussions delivered through lectures, question-and-answer sessions, and educational video presentations; and (3) Evaluation and post-activity monitoring through joint reflections involving both the boarding school administrators and the participants. The combination of Hb screening, interactive counseling sessions, leaflet-based educational media, and institutional support from the boarding schools proved effective in creating a conducive environment for promoting healthy behaviors. However, challenges such as limited availability of Hb testing equipment and negative perceptions toward iron supplementation still need to be addressed through continuous approaches and cross-sectoral collaboration.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out by the Chemistry Study Program of Tribuana Kalabahi University (UNTRIB) in collaboration with the Altar Youth Classis, with the aim of increasing the knowledge and skills of young people in utilizing local organic materials to make bokashi-type solid fertilizer. Alor Regency has abundant natural resource potential, but the still traditional agricultural system and dependence on inorganic fertilizers are major challenges. Through this activity, young people were trained to process organic materials such as goat manure, lamtoro leaves, banana stems and other organic materials as well as household waste with the help of effective microorganism fermentation (EM4) into environmentally friendly and economically valuable bokashi fertilizer. This activity included the delivery of materials, a question and answer session about fertilizer making, and direct mentoring by lecturers and students of the UNTRIB Chemistry Study Program. The results of this activity showed an increase in the participants' understanding and skills in the fermentation process, organic waste management, and the application of chemical principles in agricultural practices. Thus, this training is expected to encourage youth independence in the agricultural sector while strengthening collaboration between universities and the community in realizing sustainable agriculture based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to enhance the competence and understanding of academic supervisors in guiding and supervising the final project writing of students in the Diploma IV Airport Electrical Engineering Program at the Indonesian Civil Aviation Polytechnic of Curug (PPIC). The background of this activity is based on the essential role of academic supervisors as guarantors of academic quality and the scientific integrity of students’ final projects, in accordance with the regulations of the Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) as stipulated in the Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation (Permendikbud) No. 3 of 2020 concerning National Higher Education Standards. The main issues faced by the study program include the lack of uniformity in supervision guidelines, limited supervision time, and differing perceptions among lecturers regarding the implementation of academic guidelines. The activity was conducted through a one-day socialization and interactive discussion under the theme “Optimizing Final Project Supervision for Diploma IV Airport Electrical Engineering through the Socialization of Academic Guidelines in Accordance with DIKTI Regulations.” Participants included lecturers and laboratory staff from the study program, who received material presentations on supervision guidelines, principles of effective supervision, and the implementation of a structured supervision format. Evaluation was carried out through a post-activity questionnaire to assess the relevance and benefits of the program in improving supervision quality. The results show that this program is highly relevant and beneficial, providing clearer understanding of the application of DIKTI guidelines in the supervision process of final projects. This PKM activity successfully increased lecturers’ awareness of the importance of structured supervision, strengthened the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the aspects of community service and vocational lecturer competence development, and supported the improvement of both the quality and timeliness of student final project completion.

Abstract

The ability to write scientific articles is an essential form of academic literacy for students in meeting the demands of the academic world and scientific publication. However, many students still struggle to produce scientific papers that comply with proper academic writing conventions and the publication standards of SINTA-indexed journals. This community service activity aims to improve the academic literacy of PPIC students through a one-day workshop on scientific article writing. The implementation method was participatory, involving the delivery of materials and hands-on practice in writing scientific articles. The results of the activity indicate an improvement in students’ understanding of scientific writing structure, citation techniques, and manuscript conformity with SINTA journal formats. Based on the pre-test and post-test results, this activity proved to be effective as an initial step in strengthening students’ academic literacy toward national scientific publication
