Abstract

Effective Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) instruction for elementary school children can be enhanced through the use of engaging audiovisual media relevant to Indonesian culture. This study presents an audiovisual-based BIPA learning model focused on introducing traditional clothing from provinces in Sumatera. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach and is designed as a creative teaching concept rather than empirical research. In this approach, upper elementary students (ages 11-12 level A2) are shown audiovisual content featuring traditional clothing, followed by a picture-guessing activity to identify the displayed attire. After that, the students present the philosophical meaning of the traditional clothing. This strategy aims to make it easier for beginning BIPA learners to understand and retain new vocabulary related to Indonesian culture, particularly Sumatera. The use of audiovisual media is expected to increase student interest, while the picture-guessing activity reinforces memory and comprehension of the material. This culture-based learning approach is also anticipated to be engaging and contextual, aligning with the communicative and meaningful language learning needs of young learners. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of audio visual media in learning Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA). One of the main challenges in BIPA learning is the low motivation of participants. This lack of motivation is often caused by the monotonous classroom atmosphere. To increase learning motivation, an interesting and innovative approach is needed, especially for teenage and early adult participants. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. The research subjects were beginner level participants of the Indonesian for Foreign Speakers Program (BIPA) at Prima University Medan, while the research object was the use of audiovisual media in BIPA learning. The results showed that audiovisual media can be used effectively to support BIPA learning objectives. Audio Visual are able to facilitate the learning of listening, speaking, reading, and grammar, while creating a more pleasant classroom atmosphere. In addition to entertaining and attracting participants’ interest, audovisual also have various other benefits in BIPA learning. It is recommended for practitioners to continue to develop and integrate audiovisual media into BIPA learning materials.

Abstract

This research aims to develop and analyze the use of audiovisual media as a medium for learning Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) in introducing Batak Pakpak language vocabulary through the folklore "The Origin of Rice Pulut". Audiovisual media was chosen because of its ability to present information in a more interesting and interactive way, which can make it easier for students to understand new things. The folklore "The Origin of Rice Pulut" is used as the main material because it has cultural and linguistic richness that can be used as a context to introduce a contextual understanding of the Batak Pakpak language. This research uses literature study as the main research method to collect, analyze and formulate theories and findings relevant to the topic "Audiovisual Media Model as a BIPA Learning Media to Introduce Batak Pakpak Language Vocabulary Through Origin Folklore Ushul Padi Pulut'". In this literature study, the author reviews various sources such as books, journals, articles, research reports, and online sources related to language learning, especially Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), the use of audiovisual media in education, and the application of folklore as a means of language and culture learning. The results of the research show that the audiovisual media developed can help BIPA learners understand the Batak Pakpak language in a more enjoyable and effective way. Using folklore as context also increases cultural understanding while enriching learner understanding. It is hoped that this media can be used as a reference in learning regional languages ​​for foreign speakers learning Indonesian.

Abstract

ABSTRAK: Salah satu dampak yang sangat nampak yang disebabkan oleh Covid-19 adalah di dunia pendidikan, saat sekolah diliburkan, namun pembelajaran harus wajib dilaksanakan, dimana lembaga pendidikan diwajibkan menyelesaikan evaluasi online. Hal ini juga mempengaruhi kegiatan belajar online. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendeskripsikan persiapan assessmen guru SMP mata pelajaran bahasa Indonesia pembelajaran secara online.  Mendeskripsikan praktik asessmen kemampuan membaca dalam pembelajaran daring, mendeskripsikan hasil asesmen yang dilaksanakan oleh guru terhadap kemampuan membaca peserta didik. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif, dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif. Kemudian mengumpulkan data dengan cara mensurvei lokasi penelitian dan berbagai bahan kepustakaan yang berasal dari, majalah terkait, artikel, buku yang berkaitan dengan sumber penelitian. Tehnik deskriptif digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Tehnik tersebut digunakan untuk mengumpulkan informasi dari suatu fenomena secara objektif. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam penelitian terbagi atas tiga. Ketiganya meliputi persiapan pelaksanaan penilaian guru SMP dalam pembelajaran daring, praktik asesmen kemampuan membaca dalam pembelajaran daring, dan terakhir hasil penilaian asesmen yang dilaksanakan oleh guru terhadap kemampuan membaca peserta didik.KATA KUNCI: Kemampuan Membaca Siswa; Penilaian; Pembelajaran DaringTEACHER ASSESSMENT PRACTICES ON STUDENTS' READING ABILITY IN NETWORK LEARNING (ONLINE) ABSTRACT One of the very visible impacts caused by Covid-19 is in the world of education, when schools are closed, learning must be carried out, where educational institutions are required to complete online evaluations. This also affects online learning activities. This research was conducted to describe the preparation of online learning for junior high school teacher assessments of Indonesian language subjects. Describe the practice of assessing reading ability in online learning, describing the results of the assessment carried out by the teacher on students' reading ability. This research method uses qualitative research, using a descriptive approach. Then collect data by surveying research locations and various library materials originating from related magazines, articles, books related to research sources. Descriptive techniques were used to analyze the data. The technique is used to collect information from a phenomenon objectively. The results obtained in the study are divided into three. These three include preparing for the implementation of junior high school teacher assessments in online learning, practice assessment reading ability in online learning, and finally the results of the assessment carried out by the teacher on students' reading abilities.KEYWORDS: Student Reading Ability; Evaluation; Online Learning

Abstract

Adapting the short story Malim Pesong is considered as a process to create new activities that can then be used as a reference for new creative processes in learning while introducing local writers to students. The purpose of this study focuses on the creative process of creating the adaptation of the short story Malim Pesong into a drama script and to explain the process of adapting the Malim Pesong drama script into teaching materials in drama texts for grade 8 junior high school. This study uses a qualitative research method with a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of this study found that there were several processes of adaptation from short stories to drama scripts so that they could be used as teaching materials, going through stages such as: 1) Understanding the intrinsic elements of short stories; 2) Classifying parts of short stories into scenes; 3) Writing drama scripts; 4) Classifying changes that occur in the adaptation process; and 5) The process of adjusting the results of the adaptation as teaching materials. The findings in this study indicate that the phenomenon of adapting a literary work into a drama script is very good if it is carried out massively in the learning process. Adapting a work as teaching material is important to increase students' knowledge in the process of creating drama scripts. This creation can have an impact on increasing knowledge and become a new way for the community to develop drama scripts with new stories through short stories chosen by the community.

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter merupakan pilar utama yang berperan esensial dalam mewujudkan generasi unggul yang mengedepankan intelektualitas dan nilai moral. Sastra, khususnya cerpen, berperan strategis dalam menyampaikan nilai pendidikan karakter kepada generasi muda. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah mendeskripsikan komponen pendidikan karakter yang tercermin dalam sastra cerpen “Guru Jabut” di balik konteks sosial teks cerita secara tekstual. Penelitian ini mengaplikasikan metode kualitatif dengan penyajian data secara deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam  penelitian melingkupi dokumentasi, kajian pustaka, serta wawancara. Selanjutnya, perolehan data dianalisis menggunakan kajian isi dengan analisis interaktif pola Miles juga Huberman yang melingkupi tahapan mereduksi data, penyajian data, dan menarik simpulan atau memverifikasi. Hasil analisis membuktikan dalam topik penelitian Nilai-Nilai Pendidikan Karakter dalam Sastra Cerpen “Guru Jabut” Karya Hasan Al Banna, memperoleh 13 nilai pendidikan karakter sebab kemunculannya konsisten dengan didukung teori Wibowo, Lickona berasas pada Kemendiknas (2010), serta 29 data termanifestasi nilai pendidikan karakter yang didominasi cinta damai dan kepedulian sosial lewat pengaruh karakter Guru Jabut. Simpulan riset ini menegaskan cerpen “Guru Jabut” berperan strategis dalam menyampaikan nilai pendidikan karakter sebab cerpen mengandung banyak nilai pendidikan karakter yang mampu diserap oleh pembaca.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of YouTube in improving expository writing skills: the perspective of Indonesian language teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Doloksanggul. The background of this study is that Indonesian language learning in the classroom often poses a challenge for teachers at school. This is because students' interest in learning Indonesian varies. Therefore, teachers utilize YouTube to improve students' skills in writing expository texts. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research method. Data is collected through written tests, observations, and interviews. The research subjects are Indonesian language teachers. Data validation is conducted using reference materials and member checks. The results indicate that the use of YouTube videos is viewed as a strategic approach that should be implemented in education for language skill development. Writing expository texts is quite difficult for students to do in learning. The use of YouTube is considered to attract students' attention because it can improve their argumentation skills, vocabulary, and understanding of expository text structure. The use of this media is also used as motivation for teachers and students at the high school level.

Abstract

The use of videos based on local wisdom in literature learning is an innovative approach that can enrich the interpretation of poetry and improve students' essay writing skills. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of local wisdom videos to enrich the interpretation of poetry in the form of essays by 10th grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Simpang Kiri Kota Subulussalam. This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Informants were selected purposively according to research needs. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data analysis followed the qualitative analysis stages outlined by Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the use of local wisdom videos, such as the Peusijuk tradition, kenduri, and gotong royong, can shape more contextual, connotative, and symbolic interpretations of poetry. Students demonstrated improved abstract and reflective thinking skills and greater confidence in writing essays. Student responses were very positive because the visual media presented were relevant to their lives, making learning more active, personal, and meaningful. However, there were some challenges, such as technical limitations, differing cultural backgrounds, and low literary literacy. Despite this, teacher support, a flexible curriculum, and the integration of local values were key factors contributing to the success of this strategy. This approach strengthens understanding of poetry and fosters a deeper appreciation of literature through authentic learning experiences.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemanfaatan aplikasi quizizz sebagai media pembelajaran dalam pengenalan kosakata khas Batak Toba naniura bagi pembelajar BIPA tingkat madya. Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA) menuntut pendekatan kontekstual yang tidak hanya memperhatikan aspek linguistik, tetapi juga kultural. Salah satu bentuk integrasi budaya lokal dalam pengajaran bahasa adalah melalui kosakata kuliner tradisional. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode deskripsi kualitatif dengan tahapan yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan aplikasi quizizz mampu meningkatkan partisipasi dan pemahaman kosakata pembelajar BIPA melalui fitur gamifikasi yang interaktif dan menyenangkan. Penggunaan quizizz dengan materi berbasis kuliner naniura mendukung terciptanya pembelajaran bahasa yang komunikatif, kontekstual, dan berbasis kearifan lokal. Dengan demikian, aplikasi quizizz efektif digunakan untuk mengenalkan kosakata baru berbasis budaya dalam pembelajaran BIPA. Kata Kunci: BIPA, Quizizz, Kosakata, Kuliner Naniura, Batak Toba

Abstract

The evaluation of Indonesian for speakers of other languages (BIPA) is important in the age of globalisation to ensure the effectiveness of learning for foreign speakers. This study attempts to evaluate the competence of the 2019 edition of the Sahabatku Indonesia course materials, the official published book for basic level (A1) learners, by analysing the suitability of the materials against the competence standards, the representation of Indonesian culture, and the quality of presentation. Using qualitative content analysis, this study examined the text, images, and audio of the teaching materials based on 16 indicators of Muslich's competency standards and Permendikbudristek No. 22 of 2022. The results show that these teaching materials fall into the excellent category with a feasibility percentage of 90.625%, excelling in pre-discourse, exercises and presentation of materials. However, there are inconsistencies in cultural representation, acronyms without explanation and outdated currency illustrations. The results confirm that adjustments should be made to these aspects to improve their relevance and effectiveness in BIPA materials, to ensure alignment with cultural development and learner needs, and to provide guidance for the development of more effective BIPA materials in the future.
