Abstract

Russula Pers. (Basidiomycota) is recognized as one of the most widely distributed macrofungi globally. This genus includes several edible species with distinct color variations, such as R. cyanoxantha. However, in Indonesia, knowledge of this species remains limited as colourful mushrooms are often mistakenly considered poisonous. During a fungus expedition in Southeast Sulawesi, we collected a green edible wild mushroom consumed by locals. Our study aimed to verify the taxonomic classification of our specimens through morphological and molecular analysis. The fresh basidiomata were examined based on their macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Molecular analysis using ITS 1/2 sequences was conducted to construct a phylogenetic tree. Our findings identified the green mushroom as R. cyanoxantha (Schaeff.) Fr. (Synonym: R. lilacina). Morphologically, our specimens can be distinguished from R. virescens by their smooth cap. They differ from R. aeruginea and R. heterophylla by having flexible, persistent gills. Additionally, our R. cyanoxantha specimen BO24636 can be separated from R. dinghuensis and R. subpallidirosea by their forked gills near the stalk. A BLAST comparison revealed a 96% similarity to R. lilacina from Thailand as the closest match. The phylogenetic tree (Maximum Likelihood) placed our specimens within the R. lilacina group (BS value 99%). Our research contributes to the taxonomic understanding of this edible wild green macrofungi in Indonesia, and future studies should explore its nutritional composition.

Abstract

Wild edible mushrooms are germplasm which widely consumed by various local communities around the world. One of the wild mushroom genera that grows wild and used as food is Cookeina. This mushroom has the shape of bowl, glass, or cup which grows saprophyticly on the stems or seeds of forestry plants. However, the information of Cookeina potency as an alternative food is scarce in Indonesia. This is due to the lack of reports on the use of this macrofungi for consumption in Indonesia. In addition, most of the reports are not provided with the descriptions of the mushrooms. As the result, it as a serious constrain to non mycologyst person or mushroom hobyyist to study Cookeina. This manuscript aimed to provide the information on the distribution of this mushroom in Indonesia, the description of the morphological characters, and examples of the use of Cookeina as food by local communities (ethnomicology). This macrofungi have been reported 16 times in Indonesia, spread over 10 different provinces. The species which have been reported are C. colensoi, C. speciosa, C. sulcipes, and C. tricholoma in Indonesia. However, only C. speciosa, C. sulcipes, and C. tricholoma which used ad food and medicine by indigenous peoples in Indonesia. Several studies in various countries have proven that Cookeina contains bioactive ingredients in the form of β-glucan which are good for health. It is hoped that the level of awareness of the Indonesian people will increase regarding the potential use of edible wild mushrooms in order to achieve the food sovereignty.

Abstract

Mushrooms are cosmopolitan organisms with very high biodiversity. Macro fungi, or mushrooms, are most commonly found in various regions of the tropical Earth. However, mushrooms in Indonesia have not been extensively explored and identified. Therefore, this research aims to identify several mushroom species found in the Situ Gede area, Bogor, West Java. Mushroom identification is carried out by collecting and measuring samples with a scale comparison in their natural habitat. The samples are then dried as a dry herbarium or soaked in alcohol as a wet herbarium. Four mushrooms were successfully identified, three of which belong to the phylum Basidiomycota and one belongs to the phylum Ascomycota. Some of these mushrooms include Lentinus arcularius, Lentinus sp., and Termitomyces microcarpus, which belong to the phylum Basidiomycota, while Xylaria polymorpha belongs to the phylum Ascomycota. Some fungi can be used as a source of food and also as a source of medicine.

Abstract

Termitomyces are known as wild edible mushrooms that are commonly consumed in Africa and Asia. T. eurrhizus can be easily found in many areas in Indonesia. However, the recent collection and proper documentation of this species has not been done in Indonesia. In addition, the potential utilization of this species needs to be revealed. This research aims to identify, investigate the proximate value, and test the antibacterial activity of T. eurrhizus. The exploration was carried out at the IPB University campus forest using an opportunistic sampling method. Fresh basidiomata were used for morphological identification. Proximate analysis was done following AOAC method. Mushroom extract was subjected to antibacterial test against Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli. Our specimen was identified as T. eurrhizus based on pileus characters (macroscopically) and spore features under an electron microscope (microscopically). The proximate result showed that the moisture content was 13,70 %, the ash 13,66 %, total fat content 2,05 %, total protein content 27,73 % and fiber content 8,49 %. The investigated antibacterial was evaluated based on size of antibacterial zone for concentration 200 mg/ml extract (3,5 mm), 100 mg/ml (6,5 mm), 50 mg/ml (3,83 mm), 25 mg/ml (2,5 mm), and 12.5 mg/ml 6,33 mm. Our result showed the potential utilization of T. eurrhizus as nutraceutical food and antibacterial. Further research is expected to collaborate with various cultivation or product development fields.

Abstract

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB University) is one of the campuses in Indonesia that still has large green open spaces with various tree vegetation. These environmental conditions strongly support the growth of macrofungi. The diversity of macrofungi at IPB University has been previously reported. However, most of the existing reports are not equipped with microscopic identification characteristics. This study aims to explore the diversity of Basidiomycota in the IPB University and to characterize the mushroom fruiting bodies macroscopically and microscopically. The method used is foraging which is then followed by identification based on macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. The results of this study confirmed that the Basidiomycota found included Psathyrella sp., Phallus indusiatus, and Coprinellus section Disseminati. The current work adds data on the diversity of fungi in the IPB University campus area as one of the green campuses in Indonesia. Regular monitoring efforts still need to be carried out in various other areas within the IPB University campus.

Abstract

Information on macroscopic fungi from Central Kalimantan is still limited compared to other regions in Indonesia. Arboretum Nyaru Menteng, a conservation area located in Central Kalimantan, poses many macrofungi due to its favorable environmental conditions that support the growth of various types of macrofungi. However, the diversity of macroscopic fungi from Arboretum Nyaru Menteng has never been reported. Thus, the current works aimed to provide initial information on the diversity of macroscopic fungi in this conservation area. The exploration was done using the opportunistic sampling method. Fruiting bodies were documented, collected, and identified based on macroscopic characteristics. Four environmental microclimate variables were measured in four random sampling locations: temperature, light intensity, air humidity, and soil acidity. The results confirmed that there were 27 species of macrofungi belonging to 18 genera and 14 families. Polyporaceae was the most dominant family found in this research. Most fungi grew on a dead log while the others were recognized as mycorrhizal fungi and parasites on plants. The environmental measurements showed that Arboretum Nyaru Menteng has an optimal habitat for recorded fungi growth. The record of macrofungi diversity in this research contributes to Indonesia mycoflora, particularly from Central Kalimantan.

Abstract

Spent mushroom substrate (SMS) is a result of mushroom growing utilizing mushroom substrate media, such as substrate. Unhandled SMS garbage demands a subscription and poses an environmental risk. The SMS was obtained from oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) in Jonggol, Bogor, West Java, using a mixture of sawdust, lime, and bran. The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of using SMS as a planting medium and biofertilizer for the growth of maize (Zea mays), also on determining the optimum concentration of SMS as an anti-pathogen for the plant pathogens Fusarium oxysporum and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. This research utilized a completely randomized design. The antifungal test results for SMS water extract against Fusarium oxysporum showed that the fungus was inhibited from growing at 60 to 100% extract concentrations. The use of SMS as a growing medium gave the best results on the growth of the number of plant leaves. Microscopic observation of the morphology of fungal pathogens Fusarium oxysporum and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides showed that there was damage to the structure of fungal hyphae in the treatment of SMS water extract with 100% extract concentration. SMS might offer an eco-friendly solution for enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting waste valorization in Indonesia.
