Abstract

Information on macroscopic fungi from Central Kalimantan is still limited compared to other regions in Indonesia. Arboretum Nyaru Menteng, a conservation area located in Central Kalimantan, poses many macrofungi due to its favorable environmental conditions that support the growth of various types of macrofungi. However, the diversity of macroscopic fungi from Arboretum Nyaru Menteng has never been reported. Thus, the current works aimed to provide initial information on the diversity of macroscopic fungi in this conservation area. The exploration was done using the opportunistic sampling method. Fruiting bodies were documented, collected, and identified based on macroscopic characteristics. Four environmental microclimate variables were measured in four random sampling locations: temperature, light intensity, air humidity, and soil acidity. The results confirmed that there were 27 species of macrofungi belonging to 18 genera and 14 families. Polyporaceae was the most dominant family found in this research. Most fungi grew on a dead log while the others were recognized as mycorrhizal fungi and parasites on plants. The environmental measurements showed that Arboretum Nyaru Menteng has an optimal habitat for recorded fungi growth. The record of macrofungi diversity in this research contributes to Indonesia mycoflora, particularly from Central Kalimantan.

Abstract

Spent mushroom substrate (SMS) is a result of mushroom growing utilizing mushroom substrate media, such as substrate. Unhandled SMS garbage demands a subscription and poses an environmental risk. The SMS was obtained from oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) in Jonggol, Bogor, West Java, using a mixture of sawdust, lime, and bran. The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of using SMS as a planting medium and biofertilizer for the growth of maize (Zea mays), also on determining the optimum concentration of SMS as an anti-pathogen for the plant pathogens Fusarium oxysporum and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. This research utilized a completely randomized design. The antifungal test results for SMS water extract against Fusarium oxysporum showed that the fungus was inhibited from growing at 60 to 100% extract concentrations. The use of SMS as a growing medium gave the best results on the growth of the number of plant leaves. Microscopic observation of the morphology of fungal pathogens Fusarium oxysporum and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides showed that there was damage to the structure of fungal hyphae in the treatment of SMS water extract with 100% extract concentration. SMS might offer an eco-friendly solution for enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting waste valorization in Indonesia.

Abstract

Mushrooms are cosmopolitan organisms with very high biodiversity. Macro fungi, or mushrooms, are most commonly found in various regions of the tropical Earth. However, mushrooms in Indonesia have not been extensively explored and identified. Therefore, this research aims to identify several mushroom species found in the Situ Gede area, Bogor, West Java. Mushroom identification is carried out by collecting and measuring samples with a scale comparison in their natural habitat. The samples are then dried as a dry herbarium or soaked in alcohol as a wet herbarium. Four mushrooms were successfully identified, three of which belong to the phylum Basidiomycota and one belongs to the phylum Ascomycota. Some of these mushrooms include Lentinus arcularius, Lentinus sp., and Termitomyces microcarpus, which belong to the phylum Basidiomycota, while Xylaria polymorpha belongs to the phylum Ascomycota. Some fungi can be used as a source of food and also as a source of medicine.

Abstract

AbstractMushrooms are macroscopic forms of fungi that are distributed in various ecological niches. The utilization of mushrooms as food and medical ingredients has been done for a long time all over the world, including Indonesia. However, because morphologically the fruiting bodies of mushrooms often look identical to each other, mushroom poisoning is a risk that often arises. Until now, records of diversity, potential utilization, and information on wild mushroom poisoning in Indonesia are still minimal. This review aims to provide information on several poisonous wild mushrooms (the results of the author's research, discussions with mushroom activists, and literature studies) equipped with mushroom descriptions as a medium for disseminating mycological science. A total of 11 groups of fungi are described in this paper, namely Amanita spp., Chlorophyllum molybdites, Clarkeindat trachodes, Cantharocybe cf. virosa, and Coprinus spp. in the old phase, Gymnopilus sp., Inocybe sp., Lepiota sp., Panaeolus sp., Podostroma cornu-damae, and Scleroderma spp. Some of these fungi have been reported to cause poisoning and death in Indonesia. Most of the poisoning cases occurred due to misidentification of the poisonous mushrooms as edible mushrooms. However, some of the reported fungal genus mushrooms also have species that can be consumed at the right type or age of the fruiting body. Good identification and experience when foraging for wild mushrooms is one way to differentiate between poisonous and edible wild mushrooms.

Abstract

The exploration of ectomycorrhizal fungi diversity around the campus could provide insights into the presence and distribution of these symbiotic fungi in the area. This study aimed to observe, identify, and provide information regarding ectomycorrhizal fungi diversity in the IPB University Campus Forest. The sampling sites represent various tree species including forests, parks, and green spaces. The exploration was done using opportunistic sampling method. The obtained basidiomata were examined for macromorphological and micromorphological examination to identify the ectomycorrhizal fungi. The identification results based on the morphological characteristics confirmed our specimens as Inocybe cf. squarrosolutea (Corner & E. Horak) Garrido and Suillus bovinus (L.) Roussel. The Inocybe was characterized by having small to medium-sized, pileus squamules, dry surface, light brown to yellowish cap, lamellae crowded, cylindrical or attenuated stipe towards the apex, clavate basidia, and hemispheric knobs basidiospores. The Suillus was distinguished by having a cap that is convex in shape with a slightly brownish yellow color and the surface texture of the cap is smooth, lamella in the form of pores that are quite large and angular, brownish yellow in color, yellow tubular stipe, clavate basidia, and oval spores. These two macrofungi are new records in the sampling area and I. cf. squarrosolutea could be the new information for Indonesia. Our finding provides valuable information for ecological studies and contributes to the additional data on Indonesian ectomycorrhizal fungi diversity.

Abstract

Ganoderma spp. is a genus of macrofungi in the Basidiomycota, comprising both saprophytic and phytopathogenic species. Ganoderma spp. prefers woody substrates and can attack various trees in the forest. While it often acts as a phytopathogenic fungus, it also serves an ecological role for surrounding insects, providing food and shelter. This study aims to determine the interactions and preferences of Ganoderma spp. with its hosts and to observe the interactions between Ganoderma spp. and surrounding insects. Research on these interactions was conducted through scan sampling exploration in the Gunung Walat Educational Forest. Identification of fungi, trees, and insects was based on morphological characteristics. A total of 155 fruiting bodies of Ganoderma were found. Three species of Ganoderma were successfully collected and described morphologically, both macroscopically and microscopically. Ganoderma spp. were found infecting Agathis sp., Schima wallichii, and Pinus merkusii trees. The fruiting bodies of Ganoderma spp. interacted with insects such as larvae, Trichomyrmex destructor ants, and Eumorphus marginatus beetles, which used the fruiting bodies as breeding and shelter sites
