Abstract

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a sodium salt from glutamic acid which is currently very popular to be used as a food flavoring ingredient to stimulate appetite. Exessive consumption of MSG can disrupt the balance of antioxidants and ROS, and cause the negative effects of oxidative stress on testes. Coffee has high chlorogenic acid, function for antioxidants and reduce the negative effect on cell damage in the testes. This study aims to analyze the effect of robusta coffee extract on histological of mice testes induced with MSG. This study was completely randomized design (CRD), using 20 male mice for 5 treatment groups: K+ (MSG 0.12 mg and Vitamin C 6 mg), K- (MSG 0.12 mg and CMC Na 0.1 ml), P1 (MSG 0.12 mg and RCE 0.1 mg), P2 (MSG 0.12 mg and RCE 0.2 mg), and P3 (MSG 0.12 mg and RCE 0.4 mg) orally for 42 days. Histophatological scores were analyzed with Saphiro-Wilk Test and Anova. There is no effect of increasing testicular weight. 0,12 mg MSG can cause a decrease in the number of spermatogonia and spermatocytes. 0,2 mg robusta coffee extract can maintain the number of spermatogonia and spermatocytes.

Abstract

Increasing the level of the community economy through the livestock sector is increasingly in demand. The livestock sector is experiencing an increase in interest in one of them is goat farming. Not much different from the success factor of increasing the productivity of livestock, the success of goat livestock is also influenced by several factors including genetics, feed, and maintenance management. The role of farmers is necessary to achieve the desired level of productivity success. Breeders in the group Banyuwangi Goat Breeder must be prepared to be a breeder who is aware of the mechanism of raising a good right. Therefore, the education of farmers to be related to the way or technique of raising goats is good and right, goat cultivation management in the form of types of goats, goat reproduction, goat health to the manufacture of complete feed that is right must be understood by farmers. The purpose of this activity is to improve farmers ' understanding of the importance of understanding the basic aspects of breeding including genetic, feed, and maintenance management. In addition to aiming to improve farmers ' understanding of goat breeding techniques, this extension is expected to also be a solution in solving economic and social problems, especially in the field of goat farming, and independently farmers can make complete feed independently. However, the sustainability of coaching is expected to improve the quality of farmers in raising livestock and as a mechanism for evaluating the complete feed until the formation of a commercial and viable complete feed. Feed model as a source of livestock nutrition.

Abstract

Mastitis is an inflammation of the mammary gland which can cause a decrease in milk production and income for farmers. Subclinical mastitis is mastitis without clinical symptoms but can result in a decrease in the quality of milk production. One of the main pathogens that cause mastitis is Escherichia coli. The risk factors for the occurrence of mastitis, both clinical and subclinical mastitis, can cause a decrease in milk production caused by several factors, including genetic, feed, and environmental factors. This study aims to determine the presence of subclinical mastitis in dairy goat milk in Siliragung District, Banyuwangi Regency. Sample testing was carried out at the SIKIA Instrument Laboratory, Airlangga University. Isolation was carried out using EMBA media (Eosin Methylene Blue Agar) for further identification consisting of Gram staining and biochemical tests. One of the biochemical tests used is the IMViC (Indole Methyl red Voges-Proskauer Citrate Test). The results of isolation, observation of characteristics, and identification of bacteria in the research that was carried out showed that 8% (5/62) of the samples tested were positively identified as Escherichia coli. The results showed that the risk factors for causing subclinical mastitis included cleaning the cage bedding, washing hands before milking, milking out, teat dipping, and medication.

Abstract

Laying breeds of chickens or commonly called layers are a breed of chicken that has potential value as an egg producer. The length of the layer production period is 80 – 90 weeks. During layer production, layers require high energy to produce, while the level of energy in the ration determines layer consumption. Various efforts have been made to increase the efficiency of using chicken feed in tropical areas, one of which is the use of additional feed additives. Feed additives that can be used are probiotics which come from microorganisms such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactococcus lactis. This research aims to determine the effect and potential of adding a combination of probiotics Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactococcus lactis in increasing the quantity and quality of layer eggs during the production period. This research is experimental using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). This study used a layer population of 20 individuals from the Isa Brown strain aged 40 weeks which were divided into four groups consisting of P1, P2, P3 and P4 with each group consisting of 5 individuals. The data that was collected was analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) using SPSS version 24.0 software, then continued with the Duncan test on the data which showed significant differences (P<0.05). Based on the results of the study, the addition of the probiotics Lactobacillus acidophillus, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactococcus lactis in drinking water at doses of 2 mL/L, 4 mL/L, and 6 mL/L cannot increase the quantity of layer eggs, but can improve the external quality of layer eggs (egg weight, egg length, egg diameter, shell weight, shell thickness), and can improve the internal quality of layer eggs (yolk score, egg yolk index, egg white index, and haugh unit).
