Abstract

This study aims to analyze schools and madrasahs as educational organizations from the perspectives of social systems, social dynamics, and organizational culture. This research is a literature review or library study. The data sources consist of books, scientific journals, research reports, and official documents related to schools and madrasahs as educational organizations. Data collection was carried out through document analysis, while the data were analyzed using content analysis techniques in a systematic and critical manner. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that schools and madrasahs play a strategic role as social organizations that not only perform educational functions but also serve as platforms for the socialization of societal values, norms, and culture. A well-structured social system, harmonious relationships, and effective communication within the educational environment significantly contribute to shaping students’ character and social identity. As agents of cultural transmission and social solidarity, schools and madrasahs strengthen community integration through the internalization of universal and religious values. In facing modernization and technological advancement, these educational institutions are required to be adaptive by fostering a positive, inclusive, and innovative organizational culture. The exemplary behavior of teachers becomes a key factor in instilling moral values, shaping character, and creating a conducive and competitive learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of transformation undertaken by madrasahs and pesantren in responding to social changes in the digital era. The research employs a library research method, examining ideas, theories, and previous research findings without conducting field data collection. Data sources are derived from academic books, journal articles, research reports, and policy documents related to Islamic education and digitalization. The research process involves identifying key issues, selecting relevant literature, and conducting content analysis to discover patterns and key findings. The data analysis technique in this literature review research uses content analysis by examining, interpreting, and synthesizing various written sources systematically to understand the transformation of madrasahs and pesantren in the digital era. The results indicate that madrasahs and pesantren play a fundamental role in instilling moral, ethical, and spiritual values through their distinctive Islamic educational traditions. However, in a modern context, pesantren have also evolved into agents of community empowerment through curriculum innovation, entrepreneurship training, and the strengthening of digital literacy to prepare adaptive generations. Although globalization presents challenges such as digital inequality and resistance to change, pesantren have managed to adapt by integrating technology into learning while maintaining their Islamic identity. Thus, madrasahs and pesantren are proven to be dynamic institutions that preserve tradition while being able to transform in accordance with the demands of the times.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and develop innovative strategies to overcome learning boredom in Islamic Religious Education subjects at Islamic boarding school-based vocational high schools (SMK). This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, conducted at SMK Islam Raden Fatah Darussalam Tugumulyo, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The main data sources consisted of Islamic Religious Education teachers, 10th and 11th grade students, and pesantren administrators, while secondary data was obtained from school academic documents, pesantren activity schedules, and digital learning archives. Data collection techniques included participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model through a process of data reduction, data presentation, and iterative conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that student learning fatigue is influenced by a heavy course load, an intensive boarding school schedule, monotonous teaching methods, and a lack of variety in digital media in Islamic Religious Education learning. Teachers implemented several innovative strategies such as project-based learning, gamification, contextual-collaborative approaches, and the use of interactive digital media in the form of reflective videos and online quizzes. These strategies have been proven to increase students' motivation, engagement, and reflective abilities regarding Islamic values. This research is significant because it provides practical contributions to boarding school-based schools in designing effective learning strategies to reduce boredom in Islamic Religious Education. Theoretically, this research enriches the study of Islamic Religious Education learning management, particularly in the context of vocational education integrated with the boarding school system.

Abstract

This study examines the role of religiosity in student character formation within vocational education by analyzing the mediating effects of learning motivation and literacy. Employing a quantitative correlational design with an ex post facto approach, the study analyzes survey data collected from 381 students enrolled in public vocational secondary schools in Indonesia (N = 381). Religiosity is conceptualized as a multidimensional construct encompassing belief, practice, experience, and social consequences, while student character is defined as an integrated set of cognitive, moral, and socio-emotional dispositions. Data were analyzed using regression-based mediation analysis within a structural equation modeling framework, indicating that religiosity has a positive and statistically significant direct effect on student character. In addition, learning motivation and literacy function as significant mediating variables, demonstrating partial mediation in the relationship between religiosity and character formation. These findings suggest that religious values influence character development not only through direct moral orientation, but also indirectly by strengthening students’ motivational engagement and interpretive capacities. By empirically testing a mediated model of character formation, this study advances a mechanism-oriented understanding of how values, motivation, and literacy interact in vocational education. The findings contribute theoretically to research on character education and religious education, while practically underscoring the importance of integrating ethical values, motivational support, and literacy development in holistic vocational education models.

Abstract

This study examines the relationships among Quran memorization activity, emotional intelligence, prophetic character, and student discipline in pesantren, with prophetic character operationalised through the FAST framework as a mediating mechanism. Employing a quantitative causal explanatory design, data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to 95 students at Pondok Pesantren Jamiatul Qurro Palembang. Structural Equation Modelling with a partial least squares approach was used to analyse direct and indirect relationships among the variables. The findings indicate that Quran memorization activity and emotional intelligence both have significant positive effects on prophetic character and student discipline. Prophetic character emerged as the strongest predictor of discipline β = 0.412, p < .001 and significantly mediated the effects of Quran memorization β = 0.157, p = .002 and emotional intelligence β = 0.186, p < .001 on disciplined behaviour. These results suggest that discipline in religious educational settings is best understood as an internally regulated outcome shaped by moral internalisation and emotional self-regulation. The study contributes to character education literature by empirically validating prophetic character as a central mechanism linking religious practice and psychological capacity to behavioural outcomes in pesantren education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the roles of families, schools, and communities in the socialization process of students, with a focus on the integration of the digital context and the Independent Curriculum policy. The literature review indicates that socialization is a multidimensional process that shapes a child's character, social behavior, and identity through the internalization of values, norms, and interaction patterns. The family serves as the primary socialization agent, providing a foundation for morals, emotions, and values. Schools then act as secondary socialization agents, strengthening social skills through formal learning and structured interactions. The community provides a broader socialization space through real-life social experiences. The study also found that the Independent Curriculum strengthens the socialization process through collaborative learning, group projects, and reinforcement of the Pancasila Student Profile values, despite challenges related to the use of digital technology that can reduce face-to-face interaction. From an Islamic perspective, the socialization process has moral and spiritual dimensions that emphasize parental responsibility and the importance of a positive environment. Synergy between families, schools, and communities is a key factor in the success of student socialization. This study offers a conceptual model for inter-institutional collaboration to strengthen children's character education in the digital era.

Abstract

Islamic education is intended not only as a means of knowledge transmission but also as a foundation for nurturing character and spiritual awareness. However, the learning process in many institutions has increasingly shifted toward cognitive and academic focus, often marginalizing its spiritual essence or ruh. This study aims to identify and analyze learning approaches that address this gap by revitalizing the spiritual core of Islamic education. Using a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed national and international publications from the past decade, this research highlights five key approaches: holistic-integrative, exemplary (uswah hasanah), contemplative-reflective, contextual value-based, and digital storytelling. These approaches were selected based on clear pedagogical indicators and consistent references across various studies. They align with the foundational objectives of Islamic education as formulated by scholars such as Al-Attas and Al-Ghazali. This study contributes to the discourse on Islamic pedagogy by recommending the structured integration of these approaches into curriculum design, instructional strategies, and professional teacher development programs.
