Abstract

Abstract

This research was motivated by students’ low spatial ability in learning geometry, especially on polyhedra topics, and the continued use of conventional modules that lack interactive and engaging features. To address these issues, this study aims to develop a STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) mathematics e-module to improve students’ spatial ability. The research employed the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) with a descriptive approach. The subjects were tenth-grade students at SMAS Al Washliyah Pasar Senen Medan in the 2024/2025 academic year. Expert validation results showed that the developed e-module was highly valid, with an average score of 84.25%. The practicality level was high, as rated by teachers and students, with a score of 77.3% (practical category). Regarding effectiveness, classical mastery reached 88.1%, and students’ average spatial ability scores increased from 90.5 (small group trial) to 91.25 (field trial). The e-module effectively supported students’ understanding of spatial concepts through interactive and contextual digital learning. This study concludes that the STEM-based mathematics e-module developed is valid, practical, and effective for enhancing students’ spatial abilities. The product serves as a promising digital learning resource for 21st-century mathematics education.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) learning model based on Malay culture with the assistance of the educational game Wordwall to improve junior high school students’ numeracy skills. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects were 40 eighth-grade students of SMP Swasta Al Washliyah 8 Medan. The results showed that the developed MMP model based on Malay culture was valid, practical, and effective in enhancing students’ numeracy abilities. The model’s validity, obtained through validation by material experts, media experts, and cultural experts, reached an average of 96.6% (very valid category). The practicality of the model, assessed by teachers and students, achieved an average score of 88.6% (very practical category). The learning effectiveness was reflected in the improvement of students’ numeracy test results, with an N-Gain score of 0.86 (high category). The integration of Malay culture in mathematics learning provided a more meaningful context for students, while the use of Wordwall increased engagement and learning motivation. Therefore, this model is feasible to be implemented as an innovative learning alternative to improve students’ literacy and numeracy skills at the junior high school level.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of students in understanding mathematical concepts on statistics material and the limited use of innovative learning media that connect mathematical concepts with local culture. This study aimed to develop an e-comic learning media in the context of traditional Malay cultural games that is valid, practical, and effective in improving students’ mathematical concept understanding abilities. The research used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The subjects of this study were eighth grade students of SMPIT Al-Maidani Perbaungan. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, and tests of mathematical concept understanding ability. The results showed that the developed e-comic media met the valid criteria with a media expert validation score of 0.75, material expert 0.76, teaching module validation 0.77, and posttest validation 0.67. The media was also categorized as very practical based on the teacher questionnaire score of 87.5% and student questionnaire score of 78.4%. The effectiveness of the media was indicated by students’ posttest results in the small group trial of 74.18% and field trial of 85.12% which were categorized as very effective. Therefore, the e-comic learning media in the context of traditional Malay cultural games is feasible to be used to improve students’ mathematical concept understanding abilities.
