Abstract

his classroom action research aimed to improve students' learning outcomes in Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Grade III of SDN 19 Santur, Sawahlunto. The study was conducted because students' learning outcomes were still below the minimum mastery criteria, and the learning process remained teacher-centered, resulting in low student participation and critical thinking skills. The research employed a qualitative and quantitative approach using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, which consisted of two cycles. Each cycle included four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 18 third-grade students. Data were collected through observation sheets, learning outcome tests, documentation, and field notes, and were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques. The findings revealed that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model improved both the quality of the learning process and students' learning outcomes. Students became more actively involved in identifying problems, discussing solutions collaboratively, and presenting the results of their investigations. Furthermore, improvements were observed in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains across each cycle. Therefore, the Problem Based Learning model proved to be effective in enhancing learning outcomes in IPAS learning for third-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

This classroom action research investigated the use of Problem Based Learning (PBL) to improve fourth-grade students’ Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning outcomes at SD Negeri 02 Sapan, Sawahlunto. The study was prompted by a low initial mean score of 69.44 and learning mastery of 66.7%, with the minimum criterion set at 75. The research used qualitative and quantitative approaches and involved 18 students in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation sheets for lesson-module design, teacher activities, student activities, and assessment instruments covering attitudes, knowledge, and skills. Qualitative data were analysed descriptively, while quantitative data were analysed using mean scores and mastery percentages. The PBL process employed five phases: problem orientation, learning organization, guided investigation, development and presentation of work, and evaluation of problem solving. The findings showed that teacher and student activities improved from 89.2% in the first meeting of Cycle I to 96.42% in Cycle II. The mean learning outcome increased from 72.7 in Cycle I Meeting 1 to 80.8 in Meeting 2, reaching 89.4 in Cycle II. Knowledge mastery reached 88.9%, with 16 of 18 students attaining the criterion. PBL therefore improved IPAS learning outcomes by engaging students in authentic problems, collaborative investigation, presentation, and reflection.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop Powtoon-based audiovisual media for writing explanatory texts in fifth-grade elementary school that is valid, practical, and effective. This research used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product was tested at SDN 01 Kapau and SDN 14 Gadut. Data were collected through validation sheets from material, media, and language experts, teacher and student response questionnaires, and tests to determine the effectiveness of the media. The results showed that the material expert validation obtained a percentage of 90% in the valid category, media expert validation obtained 86.25% in the valid category, and language expert validation obtained 92.5% in the valid category. The overall validation result was 89.5% in the valid category. The practicality test based on teacher responses obtained 95% at SDN 01 Kapau and 97.5% at SDN 14 Gadut, with an overall percentage of 96.25% categorized as very practical. Student responses obtained 92.75% at SDN 01 Kapau and 91.15% at SDN 14 Gadut, with an overall percentage of 91.95% categorized as very practical. The effectiveness test at SDN 01 Kapau increased from 74% in the pre-test to 92% in the post-test, with a final result of 83% categorized as effective. At SDN 14 Gadut, the results increased from 76.15% to 93.07%, with a final result of 84.61% categorized as effective. Therefore, the developed Powtoon-based audiovisual media is valid, very practical, and effective for Indonesian language learning in fifth-grade elementary school.
