Abstract

This study aims to develop differentiated English learning materials in the form of books for 10th-grade students of Senior High School in first semesters based on using an Emancipated Curriculum. This research uses the Design and Development model by Richey and Klein (2014) as the basis of the methodology. The design and Development model has four stages: analysis, design, development, and evaluation. The data obtained from this study used instruments in the form of interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis. The quality of the product received excellent from two experts, and this product is valid for use in differentiated learning-based learning styles for teachers and students. The results of this research show that differentiated English learning materials in the form of books for 10th-grade students of Senior High School in first semesters based on using an Emancipated Curriculum can help teachers in differentiated teaching and make it easier for students to learn according to their learning style

Abstract

The use of teaching materials to teach English language in the classroom is an important aspect and must be paid attention to English language teachers in classroom learning. This research aims to develop teaching materials that are varied and differentiated in activities using 3 learning methods consisting of problem-based learning, project-based learning, and discovery learning. Apart from that, the teaching materials developed are also differentiated in material content that adapts to students' learning styles, consisting of 4 learning styles: visual, aural, read/write, and kinaesthetic. In this part of developing teaching materials, researchers went through 2 comprehensive stages: design and development. The design stage consists of creating a matrix that is used as a reference in developing teaching materials, and selecting material, and the final stage is making a draft using Word. In the development stage, researchers went through stages consisting of designing a draft as well as developing media for activities, a revision process for the draft developed, finalization based on the results of revisions to the product, and assessments from experts.

Abstract

This research aimed at developing character based language learning games in teaching English which can be used by teacher of junior high school grade VII as an alternative activities in the classroom. This research is R&D which used the design from Sugiyono (2011). The data in this study were collected through in depth interview, observation, and questionnaire distribution for both teacher and students. Then the data gained were analyzed qualitatively as the basis to develop the games and manual. As the result, 3 character based language learning games are developed; they are Word Bricks, Race Words dan Snake and Signs games. Validation from experts has been conducted and the scores given indicate that the product designed can be categorized as good games and excellent manual. It is also found that the product developed is categorized as good games and manual based on teacher’s score. After the implementation, it is shown that the students are motivated in learning English by using games. Besides, it is also found that students’ characters are starting to emerge in students who played the games.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa melalui penggunaan strategi PARTS sebagai strategi mengajar. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI IPA 7 SMA Negeri 6 Denpasar yang terdiri atas 39 siswa, 20 laki-laki dan 19 perempuan. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus.Masing-masing siklus terdiri atas tiga sesi, di mana dua sesi digunakan untuk mengimplementasikan strategi PARTS dan satu sesi digunakan untuk mengevaluasi siswa. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan buku harian peneliti, tes, dan kuisioner. Kemudian data tersebut dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Masalah yang muncul ditemukan dari hasil pre-test. Hasil pre-test menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa 58.33 dan hanya 12,82% dari seluruh siswa yang mampu mencapai standar kentuntasan minimum yang disyaratkan sekolah, yaitu 75. Setelah siswa diberikan perlakuan dengan strategi PARTS di siklus pertama, nilai rata-rata siswa meningkat menjadi 70,51 dan 61,51% dari jumlah siswa mampu mencapai standar ketuntasan minimum. Sedangkan siswa yang masih menghadapi masalah dalam membaca dapat dibantu dalam siklus kedua. Nilai rata-rata siswa dalam tes membaca di siklus kedua adalah 79,87 dan seluruh siswa mampu mencapai standar ketuntasan minimum. Peningkatan nilai siswa tersebut menunjukkan bahwa pengimplementasian strategi PARTS dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa. Kata Kunci : strategi PARTS, kemampuan membaca, Penlitian Tindakan Kelas This study was aimed at improving students’ reading competency through the use of PARTS strategy. The subjects of this study were XI IPA 7 students of SMA Negeri 6 Denpasar which consisted of 39 students that included 20 females and 19 males. This research was in the form of classroom based action research which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of three sessions, in which two sessions were intended for implementing the PARTS strategy and one session was intended for evaluating the students. The data were collected by using researcher’s diary, test and questionnaire. Then the data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The existing problem was found from the result of pre-test. It was showed that the mean score was 58.33 and there were only 12.82% of the students could pass the standard passing score required by the school, which is 75. After the students were given the treatment of PARTS strategy in the first cycle, the mean score increased to 70.51 and 61.51% of the students could pass the standard passing score. Meanwhile reading problem that still faced by the rest of students could be overcome on cycle II. The mean score of reading test on cycle II was 79.87 and all of the students could pass the standard passing score. That improvement showed that the implementation of PARTS strategy can successfully improve students’ reading competency. keyword : PARTS strategy, reading competency, Classroom based Action Research

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa kelas lima SD Negeri 2 Tangkup tahun ajaran 2013/2014 dengan menggunakan Aktifitas Belajar Berkelompok dengan Media (CALF). Dalam penelitian ini terdapat 27 siswa yang terdiri dari 10 laki-laki dan 17 perempuan. Nilai ketuntasan minimum ditentukan dari Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal yang digunakan sekolah, yaitu 57. Terdapat dua siklus dan tiga sesi untuk setiap siklus; dua sesi untuk memberikan tindakan dan satu sesi untuk memberikan tes evaluasi dan kuesioner. Data diperoleh melalui tes, buku harian peneliti dan kuesioner. Pada tes awal, hanya 26% siswa yang dapat mencapai nilai ketuntasan minimum. Setelah diberikan tindakan pada siklus I, terdapat 66,6% siswa yang mencapai nilai ketuntasan minimum. Jumlah siswa yang mencapai nilai ketuntasan minimum menikat pada siklus II menjadi 100% siswa. Hasil dari buku harian peneliti menunjukkan respon postitif siswa terhadap aktifitas belajar mengajar. Dari hasil kuesioner, Aktifitas Belajar Berkelompok dengan Media (CALF) dapat membantu siswa dalam memahami teks. Dari hasil tersebut diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Aktifitas Belajar Berkelompok dengan bantuan media (CALF) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa khususnya dalam memahami teks untuk siswa kelas lima SD Negeri 2 Tangkup tahun ajaran 2013/2014.Kata Kunci : Membaca, Aktifitas Belajar Berkelompok, Media (CALF) This study was designed in the form of classroom action research which aimed at improving the students’ competency in comprehending text of fifth grade students at SD Negeri 2 Tangkup in academic year 2013/2014 by Group Work Activity with Media (CALF). There were 27 students with 10 males and 17 females. The success indicator was 57 (the standard passing score used by the school). There were two cycles and three sessions for each cycle; two sessions for giving the treatment and one session for giving the post-test and questionnaire. The data were collected through tests, researcher’s diary and questionnaire. From the pre-test, it was found that there were only 26% students could pass the success indicator. After the action given in Cycle I, the students who could pass the success indicator were 66.6% students. The number of students who could pass the success indicator also increased in the Cycle II became 100% students. The result of researcher’s diary showed students’ positive responses toward the activity. From the questionnaire, it was found that group work activity with media (CALF) could help the students in comprehending reading passages. From the result above it could be concluded that Group Work Activity with Media (CALF) could improve the students’ reading competency especially in reading comprehension of fifth grade students at SD Negeri 2 Tangkup in academic year 2013/2014.keyword : Reading Competency, Group Work Activity, Media (CALF)

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian korelasi dengan rancangan penelitian ex-post facto yang bertujuan untuk menguji (1) pengaruh antara status sosial ekonomi terhadap prestasi bahasa Inggris, (2) pengaruh antara motivasi berprestasi terhadap prestasi bahasa Inggris, dan (3) pengaruh antara status social ekonomi dan motivasi berprestasi terhadap prestasi dari siswa kelas XII SMA Negeri di Denpasar pada tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Rancangan penelitian ex-post facto¬ adalah rancangan penelitian yang menguji hubungan antara variable-variabel bebas dan sebuah variable terikat dengan (1) memilih sampel, (2) merancang dan mengembangkan kuisioner, (3) menyebar kuisioner, (4) menganalisis hasil yang diperoleh, dan (5) membuat kesimpulan. Penelitian ini dibatasi pada siswa kelas XII SMA Negeri pada semester pertama di Denpasar, yaitu SMA Negeri 1 Denpasar, SMA Negeri 2 Denpasar, SMA Negeri 3 Denpasar, SMA Negeri 4 Denpasar, SMA Negeri 5 Denpasar, dan SMA Negeri 8 Denpasar. Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik class random sampling yaitu 430 siswa di 12 kelas dari 6 sekolah tersebut. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara kuantitatif, yaitu analisis deskriftif dan inferensial Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa (1) tidak ditemukan pengaruh yang signifikan dari status sosial ekonomi terhadap prestasi bahasa Inggris siswa; (2) terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari motivasi berprestasi terhadap prestasi Bahasa Inggris siswa sebesar 9,2%; dan (3) terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari status sosial ekonomi dan motivasi berprestasi secara bersama-sama terhadap pretasi belajar siswa sebesar 9,82%. Kata Kunci : Motivasi Berprestasi, Prestasi Bahasa Inggris, Status Sosial Ekonomi This study was a correlational study with ex-post facto research design, which aimed at examining (1) the contribution between socioeconomic status on English achievement, (2) the contribution between achievement motivation on English achievement, and (3) the contribution between socioeconomic status and achievement motivation on English achievement of the twelfth grade students of first semester of public senior high schools in Denpasar in academic year 2013/2014. Ex-post facto research design was a research design to investigate the correlation between independent variables and dependent variable by (1) selecting the sample, (2) designing and developing the questionnaires, (3) distributing the questionnaires, (4) analyzing the obtained data, and (5) drawing the conclusion. This study was restricted to the twelfth grade students of first semester at six public senior high schools in Denpasar, namely SMA Negeri 1 Denpasar, SMA Negeri 2 Denpasar, SMA Negeri 3 Denpasar, SMA Negeri 4 Denpasar, SMA Negeri 5 Denpasar, and SMA Negeri 8 Denpasar. The sample of the study was chosen by using class random sampling technique that was 430 students in 12 classes of six schools. The obtained data was analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. This study discovered that: (1) there was no significant contribution of socioeconomic status on English achievement of the students; (2) there was a significant contribution of achievement motivation on English achievement of the students as much as 9.2%; and (3) there was a significant contribution of socioeconomic status and achievement motivation on English achievement of the students as much as 9.82%. keyword : Achievement Motivation, English Achievement, Socioeconomic Status

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh dari teknik clustering yang dikombinasikan dengan teknik penilaian sejawat terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa. Ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan desain posttest-only control group. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja yang bejumlah sebanyak 208 orang, dimana dua kelas yang terdiri dari 47 orang siswa dipilih sebagai sampel penelitian dari delapan kelas regular yang ada, yang ditentukan dengan teknik random sampling. Kelas VIII B4 adalah kelompok eksperimen dan diperlakukan dengan teknik clustering yang dikombinasikan dengan teknik penilaian sejawat, sedangkan kelas VIII B5 adalah kelompok kontrol dan diperlakukan hanya dengan menggunakan teknik clustering. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes kemampuan menulis, dan data yang diperoleh dianalisis melalui analisis deskriptif dan analisis inferensial dengan menggunakan Independent Samples t -test yang dibantu oleh SPSS 16.0. Dari hasil analisis data, ditemukan bahwa nilai rata-rata kelompok eksperimen adalah sebesar (60,58), lebih tinggi dari nilai rata-rata kelompok kontrol sebesar (47.47), yang menunjukkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen lebih baik daripada kelompok kontrol. Selain itu hasil analisis inferensial menunjukkan bahwa thitung adalah 3,179 lebih tinggi dari nilai ttabel 2,014 pada taraf signifikansi 0,05. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam kompetensi menulis pada siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik clustering yang dikombinasikan dengan teknik penilaian sejawat dan siswa yang diajar hanya dengan menggunakan teknik clustering.Kata Kunci : Kompetensi Menulis, Penilaian Sejawat, Teknik Clustering This study aimed at investigating the effect of clustering technique combined with peer assessment upon students’ writing competency. It was an experimental study with posttest-only control group design. The population of the study was 208 eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja, wherein two classes consisted of 47 students were taken from eight regular classes as sample of the study through random sampling. Class VIII B4 was the experimental group and treated by clustering technique combined with peer assessment, while class VIII B5 was the control group and treated by clustering technique only. The instrument used in this study was writing competency test, and the obtained data were analyzed through descriptive analysis and inferential analysis by using Independent Samples t-test assisted by SPSS 16.0. From the result of data analysis, it was found that the mean score of experimental group (60.58) was higher than the mean score of the control group (47.47), which showed that the experimental group performed better than the control group. Moreover the result of inferential analysis showed that the tobserved was 3.179 and it higher than the value of tcritical value 2.014 at level significance of 0.05. It can be concluded that there was significant difference in the students’ writing competency who were taught by using clustering technique combined with peer assessment and students who were taught by using clustering technique only.keyword : Clustering Technique, Peer Assessment, Writing Competency.

Abstract

The study aimed at discovering data and information about the number of prefixes and suffixes found in Sidetapa Dialect of Balinese (SDB) having role in constructing verb. This study was designed by using descriptive qualitative approach. The main informant of this study was one family which was chosen based on certain criteria. The data was collected by means of word lists: Swadesh, Nothofer, Holle, and Budasi and sentence list. Some natural speeches produced among family member with their neighbors and friends were also recorded. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively. The result revealed that there were two prefixes having role in constructing verb, namely: prefix {ma- and N-} and three suffixes {-ng, -a, and -na}. All of the prefixes experienced morphophonemic process in certain condition. Prefix {ma-} underwent morphophonemic process in the form of deleting phoneme /a/ in prefix {ma-} itself when it was added into any base which had an initial vowel. And prefix {N-} was indicated by its change into some allomorphs namely: |n-|, |ny-|, |ng-|, |m| when they were attached into a particular base. Meanwhile the suffix experiencing morphophonemic process was suffix {-ang}. Each prefix and suffix had more than one meaning depending on the bases attached into it. The usage of each prefix and suffix was also different. It is expected that this study can be used as a reference for the other researchers that interest in exploring more about SDB, especially the availability of the affixes and their changes. Kata Kunci : prefix, suffix, verb formation, morphophonemic process, Sidetapa Dialect of Balinese Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan data dan informasi tentang jumlah awalan dan akhiran yang mempunyai peran untuk membentuk kata kerja dalam dialek Sidetapa. Penelitian ini dirancang dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskripsi kualitatif. Informan utama dalam penelitian ini yaitu satu keluarga yang dipilih berdasarkan kriteria tertentu. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan daftar kata yang disusun oleh: Swadesh, Nothofer, Holle, and Budasi, daftar kalimat. Beberapa percakapan antara anggota keluarga, anggota keluarga dengan temannya dan juga dengan tetangganya juga direkam. Data yang sudah diperoleh dianalis secara deskriptif. Hail penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua awalan yang memiliki peran untuk membuat kata kerja yaitu awalan {ma- and N-} dan tiga akhiran {-ng, -a, and -na}. Semua awalan tersebut mengalami proses morpofonemik dalam beberapa kondisi tertentu. Awalan {ma-} mengalami proses morpofonemik yang ditandai dengan penghilangan fonem [a] terhadap awalan {ma-} itu sendiri ketika awalan tersebut digabungkan dengan kata dasar yang berinisial vowel. Sedangkan awalan{N-}dicirikan dengan allomorph yang dimilikinya yaitu |n-|, |ny-|, |ng-|, |m| ketika digabungkan dengan kata dasar tertentu. Sedangkan akhiran yang mengalami proses morpofonemik yaitu akhirin {-ang}. Masing-masing awalan maupun akhiran memiliki makna yang bervariasi tergantung dari kata dasar yang dilekatkan. Penggunaanya dari masing-masing awalan maupun akhiran tersebut jga berbeda-beda. Penulis sangat berharap agar penelitian ini bisa dijadikan sebagai acuan bagi peneliti-peneliti lain yang tertarik untuk mengksplor lebih dalam lagi tentang dialek Sidetapa khusunya keberadaan imbuhan-imbuhan dan perubahannya. keyword : awalan, akhiran, pembentukan kata kerja, proses morpofonemik, dialek Sidetapa

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mencari tahu pergantian pola bahasa yang dihasilkan oleh ungkapan penyiar radio di Phoenix Radio. Penilitian lebih mencari persentasi perubahan pola, jenis perubahan pola dan alasan penyiar melakukannya. Data dijelaskan dengan menggunakan cara penjelasan qualitative. Penelitian menggunakan rekaman, wawancara dan observasi untuk memecahkan masalah yang ada. Penelitian di analisis dengan menyalin data, mengkodekan,mengkelompokan dan menghitung data yang di dapat dan di masukan ke dalam table. Peneliti menemukan 0.42% (1) adalah pola pergantian menambahkan diposisi terendah. Yang paling banyak adalah pola pergantian kata 81.78% (193) dan pola perubahan kalimat 17.80% (42) dari 236 pola perubahan dari 946 kalimat. Ada beberapa alasan yang telah di hasilkan sesuai dengan Holmes seperti ciri-ciri istimewa dan topic. Ciri-ciri istimewa dibagi menjadi spesifikasi lawan bicara, tanda pengenal, sopan santun dan status sosial. Pola pergantian bahasa bisa membantu orang untuk belajar bahasa lain melalui memahaminya dalam bentuk konteks kata lalu kalimat.Kata Kunci : Pola pergantian bahasa, ciri-ciri keistimewaan, topik The study aimed to find out switching that produced broadcaster’s speech in Phoenix Radio. The study was focus to find out the percentage of the switching, the types of code switching produced and the reasons underlying the switching. The data explained in the descriptive qualitative research. This study used recording, interviewing and observing to solve the problem. The study was analyzed by transcribing the data, codifying, classifying and calculating the data and inserting to the table. The research was found that the broadcasters were produced 0.42% (1) was tag switching as the less dominant switching. The most dominant was from the intrasentential switching that was 81.78% (193) and intersentential switching was 17.80% (42) from the 236 switching in 946 utterances. There are some reasons that underlying the switching was produced accordance to Holmes such as participant’s features and topic. The participant features involved addressee specification, ethnic identity marker, express solidarity and assert social status. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki perbedaan antara prestasi pemahaman membaca siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan Jigsaw dan diajarkan dengan menggunakan STAD. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa di kelas X SMA Negeri 2 Banjar pada tahun akademik 2013/2014. Enam puluh dua siswa terpilih menjadi sampel melalui Cluster Random Sampling di mana siswa kelas X 1 ditetapkan sebagai eksperimen kelompok-X diperlakukan dengan teknik Jigsaw dan siswa di kelas X 2 ditetapkan sebagai eksperimen berbeda. Rerata prestasi siswa dalam pemahaman membaca yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan Jigsaw adalah 78.71 dan rata-rata siswa dalam pemahaman membaca yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan STAD adalah 77.74.kelompok-Y diperlakukan dengan teknik STAD. Penelitian ini mempergunakan desain post test saja. Sebagai hasilnya, nilai probabilitas atau Sig. (2-tailed) adalah 0.682. Ini berarti bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam prestasi pemahaman membaca antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan Jigsaw dan yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan STAD. Namun, nilai rata-rata dari masing-masing kelompok.Kata Kunci : Teknik Jigsaw, Teknik STAD dan Pemahaman Membaca This study aimed at investigating the different between students’ reading comprehension achievement taught by using Jigsaw and taught by using STAD. The population of this study was students at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 2 Banjar in academic year 2013/2014. Sixty two students were selected to be the sample through Cluster Random Sampling in which students in class X 1 were assigned as the experimental group-X treated by Jigsaw technique and those at class X 2 were assigned as the experimental group-Y treated by STAD technique. This research applied post test only design. As the result, probability value or Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.682. It means that there was no significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students taught by using Jigsaw and those taught by using STAD. However, the mean score of each group is different. The mean of the students’ reading comprehension achievement taught by using Jigsaw was 78.71 and the mean of the students’ reading comprehension achievement taught by using STAD was 77.74. keyword : Jigsaw Technique, STAD technique and Reading Comprehension
