Abstract

This study aims to explore the design of inclusive education and the strategies for fostering tolerance at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. This Islamic boarding school integrates religious education and social morality. Using a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods, the research involves field observations, in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and caregivers, and documentation of relevant activities. The main theoretical argument of this study is grounded in inclusive education theory, which views education as a tool for creating a more just and inclusive society. It also considers the concept of the hidden curriculum, which posits that social and moral values can be instilled through social activities beyond the formal curriculum. The findings indicate that Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor has successfully integrated inclusive education across various dimensions of the curriculum, including intracurricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities, which emphasize collaboration, respect for differences, and unity. Additionally, the hidden curriculum, applied through social activities such as community service and scouting, plays a crucial role in shaping tolerance among students. This research contributes to the literature on inclusive religious-based education, particularly in the context of Islamic boarding schools, by demonstrating how inclusive and moderate-based education can address social challenges in Indonesia. The limitations of this study lie in its focus on only one pesantren and the perspectives of students and caregivers. Future research is recommended to include other pesantren and perspectives from parents and the surrounding community to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of inclusive education on attitudes of tolerance.

Abstract

The idea of women in Islam is examined in this article as a key topic in modern Islamic studies, covering theological, sociological, and pedagogical facets. By examining the viewpoints of the Qur'an, Hadith, Islamic academic tradition, and historical precedents, this study seeks to provide a comprehensive picture of women's strategic position and role. This article illustrates how Islam sees women as spiritually equal beings with a variety of roles through scriptural and contextual study. The Qur'an and Hadith's endorsement of men and women's spiritual equality, which dispels patriarchal prejudices, opens the topic. The article then examines the ideas of "Sayyidah" and "Umm," which show how women's roles in the home and in society are balanced. Exemplary characters like Khadijah, Aisha, and Fatimah are also presented in the analysis as models of perfect women who achieve achievement in their careers, education, and spiritual lives. It is also stressed that women play a crucial role in forming the character of future generations as "madrasah al-ūlā" (first school). To sum up, Islam views women as active and important participants in the advancement of civilization. In the context of women's education at establishments like the Gontor Putri Modern Islamic Boarding School, which seeks to create ideal Muslim women capable of serving as leaders and educators in society, these ideas are not merely theoretical but also applicable.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the instructional planning design, implementation models, and assessment of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at PAS Baitul Qur’an Inclusive Kindergarten in Ponorogo. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving the principal, PAI teachers, and inclusion facilitators as research participants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that PAI instructional planning is developed adaptively by considering the individual needs of children with special needs and principles of early childhood development. Learning implementation is carried out through four main models: individual, transition, group, and center-based learning, which facilitate gradual, flexible, and inclusive learning experiences. Assessment is conducted authentically and continuously using observation, performance, and portfolio techniques, serving as a tool for monitoring children’s religious and social development rather than merely evaluating learning outcomes. This study concludes that PAI learning at PAS Baitul Qur’an Inclusive Kindergarten reflects inclusive and humanistic educational principles in its planning, implementation, and evaluation. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of adaptive and meaningful Islamic education practices in inclusive early childhood education institutions.
