Abstract

In 2024, a number of pilgrims in Semarang City experienced failure in departure, which has the potential to cause psychological impacts, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. This failure can be influenced by various factors, including regulatory, health, and administrative. Therefore, this study aims to explore the psychological experiences of pilgrims who failed to depart in 2024 in Semarang City, as well as identify the main factors that led to their failure to depart. This study utilizes a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to uncover the casual factors of the failure to depart, and a quantitative method to examine the impact of the failute to depart. The research subjects were selected through purposive sampling technique, with a total of 20 pilgrims who experienced departure failure as informants. Data related to causal factors were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the phenomenological analysis method. Meanwhile, the psychological impact was collected through the DASS-42 questionnaire. The results showed that the main factors for failure to depart include financial instability, government policies, health problems, shar'i excuses, and personal reasons. The psychological impact felt by pilgrims is depression, disappointment, and stress with normal to very severe levels. This study reveals that failure to go on Hajj has a significant psychological impact on pilgrims. Therefore, psychological assistance and policy improvements are needed so that pilgrims who experience failure still get adequate emotional support.

Abstract

The Saudi Arabian government's policy of allowing women to perform Umrah without a mahram since 2022 marks a significant change. However, this raises an urgent need for a comprehensive security system. This study aims to analyze the concept and implementation of a safe space for female pilgrims without a mahram during the Umrah pilgrimage, viewed from a legal, social, and spiritual perspective. This descriptive-analytical qualitative study employs three main data collection techniques: in-depth interviews for primary data, documentation studies and policy analysis for secondary data, and field observations. Data validity was tested using source triangulation. The results show that a safe space is formed through three key elements: (1) Policy and technology, namely implementing gender-based segregation of worship areas and the use of nusuk applications and GPS trackers as a substitute for the protective function of mahrams, (2) Social and collectivity such as the formation of solidarity and formal and informal mentoring networks among female pilgrims, (3) Spiritual and Autonomy providing the availability of a worship environment that supports devotion and spiritual independence. The construction of this safe space aligns with the principles of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah, particularly in safeguarding the body and soul (ḥifẓ al-nafs). This study recommends strengthening technology- based security systems, developing specific guidance for assistance, and improving digital literacy for pilgrims.

Abstract

The advancement of digital governance requires municipal recruitment processes that are transparent, accountable, and based on measurable criteria. In many local government environments, recruitment remains manual or semi-structured, increasing subjectivity, reducing efficiency, and limiting the traceability of decision outcomes. Although Decision Support Systems (DSS) using the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method are widely applied for candidate ranking, prior work often emphasizes technical scoring accuracy with limited attention to Smart City governance needs such as transparency, auditability, and accountable decision justification. This study develops and evaluates a SAW-based DSS to support objective, transparent, and traceable recruitment decisions within a Smart Governance context. Using a quantitative system development approach, candidate attributes were transformed into numerical scores and assessed through weighted criteria: education, work experience duration, English proficiency, age (cost criterion), and relevance of work experience. The SAW computation produced consistent and interpretable rankings, with the highest preference score reaching 98.462, indicating reduced reliance on unstructured subjective judgment. Usability testing using the System Usability Scale (SUS) yielded an average score of 87.6 (“Excellent”), demonstrating strong acceptance and practical feasibility across stakeholder roles. Overall, the proposed system functions as a governance-support tool that strengthens transparency and accountability in public-sector recruitment.

Abstract

This study develops and evaluates "SERAYA," a digital e-magazine integrated with Google Street View, designed as an innovative medium for cultural heritage education and local history learning in Semarang, Indonesia. Employing the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, the research involved needs analysis, expert validation, and a limited trial with 30 members of a historical organization. Results from material and media expert validation confirmed the product's high feasibility. User trials indicated that SERAYA effectively enhanced understanding of Semarang's history and culture, raised awareness of heritage preservation, and stimulated interest in visiting historical sites. The integration of Google Street View provides dynamic, cost-effective visual documentation, supporting sustainable monitoring. This study contributes to the discourse on media innovation in history education by offering a replicable model that leverages digital technology to foster historical literacy, connect communities with local heritage, and support preservation in a post-colonial urban context.
