Abstract

In 2024, a number of pilgrims in Semarang City experienced failure in departure, which has the potential to cause psychological impacts, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. This failure can be influenced by various factors, including regulatory, health, and administrative. Therefore, this study aims to explore the psychological experiences of pilgrims who failed to depart in 2024 in Semarang City, as well as identify the main factors that led to their failure to depart. This study utilizes a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to uncover the casual factors of the failure to depart, and a quantitative method to examine the impact of the failute to depart. The research subjects were selected through purposive sampling technique, with a total of 20 pilgrims who experienced departure failure as informants. Data related to causal factors were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the phenomenological analysis method. Meanwhile, the psychological impact was collected through the DASS-42 questionnaire. The results showed that the main factors for failure to depart include financial instability, government policies, health problems, shar'i excuses, and personal reasons. The psychological impact felt by pilgrims is depression, disappointment, and stress with normal to very severe levels. This study reveals that failure to go on Hajj has a significant psychological impact on pilgrims. Therefore, psychological assistance and policy improvements are needed so that pilgrims who experience failure still get adequate emotional support.

Abstract

The Saudi Arabian government's policy of allowing women to perform Umrah without a mahram since 2022 marks a significant change. However, this raises an urgent need for a comprehensive security system. This study aims to analyze the concept and implementation of a safe space for female pilgrims without a mahram during the Umrah pilgrimage, viewed from a legal, social, and spiritual perspective. This descriptive-analytical qualitative study employs three main data collection techniques: in-depth interviews for primary data, documentation studies and policy analysis for secondary data, and field observations. Data validity was tested using source triangulation. The results show that a safe space is formed through three key elements: (1) Policy and technology, namely implementing gender-based segregation of worship areas and the use of nusuk applications and GPS trackers as a substitute for the protective function of mahrams, (2) Social and collectivity such as the formation of solidarity and formal and informal mentoring networks among female pilgrims, (3) Spiritual and Autonomy providing the availability of a worship environment that supports devotion and spiritual independence. The construction of this safe space aligns with the principles of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah, particularly in safeguarding the body and soul (ḥifẓ al-nafs). This study recommends strengthening technology- based security systems, developing specific guidance for assistance, and improving digital literacy for pilgrims.

Abstract

The regulatory transformation of Hajj management in Indonesia through the enactment of Law Number 14 of 2025, amending  Law Number 8 of 2019, has significantly impacted (KBIHU)as a strategic partners of the government. This study aims to analyze the differentiation of regulatory treatment for the word KBIHU under both legal regimes and to examine its managerial implications for institutional accountability and professionalism. Employing a qualitative comparative document analysis, this research focuses on Articles 52-56 of both laws to identify shifts in legal norms. The findings reveal a governance paradigm shift from a socio-religious partnership model to a more standardized, bureaucratic oversight system. Key changes include stricter accreditation requirements, digital supervision through the SERAMBI platform, an increase in the pilgrim-to-guide ratio from 1:135 to 1:151, and a shift in guide quota allocation from an automatic entitlement to a proposal-based mechanism dependent on competency selection. While the new regulation promotes transparency and professional standards, the increased workload per guide potentially risks reducing the quality of personalized guidance. Consequently, KBIHU is required to reposition its service strategies to remain adaptive within an increasingly regulated and modernized Hajj and Umrah management ecosystem.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of spiritual well-being of prospective Hajj and Umrah guides participating in the Haramain Student Mobility Program. The role of a muthawwif demands strong spiritual preparedness, given the complexity of tasks such as assisting elderly pilgrims (47,384 people this year), regulatory changes, and the risk of fatigue and burnout. Previous research confirms that spirituality plays a crucial role in preventing fatigue and strengthening emotional resilience. The subjects were two Hajj and Umrah Management students from Walisongo State Islamic University (UIN) Semarang who participated in the Haramain Community Service Program (KKN) and aspired to become professional Hajj and Umrah guides. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews and analyzing them based on conceptual adaptations of the dimensions and indicators of the Spiritual Health And Life-Orientation Measure (SHALOM) developed by John W. Fisher. Consist of four domains of spiritual well-being: personal (self), communal, environmental, and transcendental (God). The results indicate a positive dynamic of spiritual well-being during the intense experience of the Haramain program. The personal domain reflects good self-knowledge, awareness of strengths and weaknesses, and positive thinking patterns. The communal domain demonstrated harmonious relationships, compassion, and a sense of family, despite minor friction. The environmental domain emphasized harmony with nature, concern for cleanliness, and awe of God's creation. Meanwhile, the transcendental domain was the strongest, strengthening personal relationships with God. Participants' spiritual well-being is achieved through the program experience, which simultaneously strengthens them to face challenges and prevents burnout. Participants' spiritual well-being was achieved through the program experience, strengthening them to face challenges and prevent burnout. It also served as a crucial foundation for developing the competencies of future Hajj and Umrah guides. These findings underscore the vital role of spiritual development in the professional education of mutawwif (traditional guides).

Abstract

Learning interest is a key factor in determining student engagement and academic success in elementary education. Preliminary observations at SD Negeri Sedayu, Gemuh District, Kendal Regency revealed varying levels of learning interest and suboptimal participation among fifth and sixth-grade students due to the dominance of conventional teaching methods. This community service program aimed to implement creative learning based on interactive activities and differentiated instruction to enhance students’ learning interest. The study employed a descriptive quantitative and qualitative approach using classroom observations, interviews, a 20-item learning interest questionnaire (α=0.87), achievement tests, and documentation. The intervention included educational games, collaborative discussions (think–pair–share and simplified jigsaw), mini projects, and tiered assignments tailored to students’ abilities. The results indicated a 34.8% increase in learning interest with a moderate normalized gain, active participation reaching 82.6%, and learning mastery of 85.7%. These findings demonstrate that creative-interactive and differentiated learning effectively enhances student engagement, intrinsic motivation, and conceptual understanding in elementary education. The model is feasible for replication with contextual adjustments and strengthened teacher capacity.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation dynamics of Law No. 14 of 2025 on Umrah Pilgrimage, specifically focusing on independent Umrah provisions within the operational context of Al-Fazza Tour & Travel Agency in Semarang. This phenomenon is examined to understand how organizations respond to regulations that may disrupt travel agencies' traditional roles. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with key management (the Director and Operations Manager) and participant observation. Results indicate that regulatory implementation is interpretative and adaptive, avoiding radical structural shifts. Management perceives the regulation through three primary lenses: legal legitimacy, new competitive challenges, and catalysts for strategic adaptation. Empirically, the legalization of independent Umrah has not significantly decreased pilgrim interest, as trust, service comfort, and the need for religious guidance remain dominant preferences. The agency’s adaptive response prioritizes educational functions through community outreach regarding the technical complexities and risks of independent Umrah. Theoretically, this research enriches bottom-up policy implementation studies in the religious service sector and recommends optimizing spiritual guidance as a core strategy for organizational sustainability amidst regulatory changes.
