Abstract

Areca nut is widely used as industrial raw material, both for health and cosmetics and as a source of renewable energy. This study aimed to examine the combination of seed bombatriconditioning and LEISA fertilization treatments that were effective in increasing the growth of areca nut seedlings. The research was carried out in the Wua-Wua Kendari Village, from March to July 2021. The study used a split-plot design with a completely randomized design (CRD). The main plot is seed biomatriconditioning treatment which consists of 3 treatments. While the subplots were fertilized with the LEISA technique which consisted of 6 treatments so that 18 treatment combinations were obtained with 3 replications. Observations were made on plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, number of roots, wet weight and dry weight of shoot. Observational data were analyzed using analysis of variance, followed by the DMRT ?0.05 if there was a significant effect. The results showed that seed biomatriconditioning treatment with rhizobacteria integrated with the LEISA technique was able to increase the growth of areca nut seedlings. The integration between L1R biomatriconditioning and the application of organic plus fertilizer + 100% inorganic fertilizer showed a better growth performance of areca nut on plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, number of roots, wet weight and dry weight of betel nut which were significantly different with control and application 100% inorganic fertilizer, but not significantly different from organic plus fertilizer, organic plus fertilizer + 50% inorganic fertilizer and organic plus fertilizer + 25% inorganic fertilizer. As a conclusion, pre-planting seed treatment with L1R biomatriconditioning is very important to increase areca nut seed germination. To increase the growth of areca nut seedlings, further fertilization needs to be done with organic plus fertilizer or a combination of organic plus fertilizer + 25% inorganic fertilizer.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of rhizobacteria in stimulating plant growth and acting as a biofertilizer that can enhance the viability and vigor of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seeds. The research was conducted at the Agronomy Unit Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University, from September to October 2024. The study was designed based on a randomized block design (RBD), consisting of 11 test isolates and 1 control. These isolates were tested for their effectiveness in improving the viability and vigor of rice (Oryza sativa L.). The test was carried out by soaking seeds in a rhizobacteria suspension, then germinating the seeds using a standard germination procedure. The observed variables included germination capacity, vigor index, seed uniformity, relative growth rate, and T50. The results showed that seed treatment with rhizobacteria significantly increased the viability and vigor of rice seeds (Oryza sativa L.), as seen in the variables of germination capacity, vigor index, T50, and relative growth rate. From this study, 2 isolates were selected that have the potential as growth promoters for rice seeds, namely DMW 4 and DSS 3. Further research is needed to test the effectiveness of these isolates in improving the growth and yield of rice (Oryza sativa L.) under field conditions.

Abstract

Drought is a climatic phenomenon that can significantly disrupt the growth and reduce the yield of rice plants. Inoculation of rhizobacteria can increase the yield of rice plants under drought stress conditions. The research was conducted at the Agrotechnology Laboratory of Agronomy Unit and Experimental Garden II of Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University, Kendari from October 2024 to January 2025. The treatments in this study were drought stress and rhizobacterial isolates. Drought stress treatment consisted of control (K0), 25% drought stress (K1), 50% drought stress (K2) and 75% drought stress (K3) while rhizobacterial treatment consisted of control (B0), isolate DMSJ 3 (B1) and isolate DSK 3 (B2). Each treatment was repeated 3 times, the treatment pots were arranged according to a split-plot design consisting of 5 polybags. Observational data were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance at the real level ? 0.05 and will be further tested with DMRT ? 0.05 if it shows a significant effect. The results showed that inoculation of rhizobacterial isolates DMSJ 3 and DSK 3 was able to increase plant yield under drought stress conditions characterized by an increase in the number of productive tillers, flag leaf area, flowering age, total grain per panicle, percentage of filled grain per panicle, 1000 grain weight, grain weight per panicle, yield and drought tolerance index. Isolates DMSJ 3 and DSK 3 have the same ability to increase yield and induce resistance of rice plants to drought stress conditions.

Abstract

Research was performed to evaluate the effect of biopriming technique using indigenous rhizobacteria in improving local upland rice from Southeast Sulawesi. Randomized group design was applied in this research using factorial pattern consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was upland rice cultivars consisting of 2 (two) levels of Paebiu Kolopua (V1) and Pae Wuna (V2) cultivars. Meanwhile, the second factor was rhizobacteria isolates, consisting of 4 (four) levels, those are without rhizobacteria treatment (R0), KNS11 isolate (R1), KLKU02 isolate (R2) and KNW11 isolate (R3). Research results indicated that interaction between Paebiu Kolopua cultivar and KLKU02 isolate treatment significantly affected plants height with 29.22% improvement and the amount of rice per panicle with 176.33% improvement compared to the control. Therefore, KLKU02 isolate can be recommeded as the best treatment to improve the production and outcome of local upland rice plant.
